RAMALLAH July 7, 2014 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas Monday met with the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshimitsu Motegi at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

Motegi was briefed on the latest developments of the situation in the Palestinian territories, and the attacks against the Palestinians by the Israeli army and settlers.

Abbas expressed his appreciation to Japan for their support to strengthen the Palestinian economy, and contribute to important projects that create new jobs.

In return, Motegi assured that Japan will continue to support the development of the Palestinian economy, as well as the possibility of further developing trade and economic relations between the two countries.

The Secretary General of the Presidency Tayeb Abdel-Rahim, and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Economy Mohammad Mustafa also attended the meeting.

This is a good development for the future. At this moment I don't believe any changes could be seen on the ground until there is genuine sovereignty.

Did they have any past relations??

As far as I know, relations were there, but Japan has been keen to invest infrastructure in Palestine; particularly the West Bank and in Gaza. As soon as the fighting between Israel and Hamas ceases, we can see development in Palestine as well as in Israel.
