Expansion essential to make UN security council credible: India

I don't know what is this fuss about getting a permanent seat in UN .

IMO, UN is a useless organisation .

The only advantage we will get by becoming a permanent member will be in the case of to have a greater say in the case of Kashmir resolutions .

Even we a non-permanent member , the security council or UN can't do $hit about it . So why should we care ??

What can India bring to the P5 that P5 members haven't already establish? Do India have the power to coerce and force other P5 member together to vote yes or no on whatever the issue they deal with? Each member on the P5 usually don't agree with each other and P5 split into 2 camp most of the time, usually Russia and China on one side, French, British and US on the other side bickering at each other, whine and cry but never get with any solution they agree with. India isn't that powerful to bring all the P5 members together and put their different or their own interest aside to work together for the betterment of the whole world. Don't flatter yourself India, your voice don't bring carry much weight on the international politic.

Pakistanis are more worried about Kashmir after India getting UN membership but who in the world care about Pakistani concerns.

I heard Pakistan has even tried to form regional blocks to stop India from getting Security council permanent membership

Kashmir aside, India has nothing significant to represent permanent UNSC seat .

In the region India has bad relations with all its neighbours, globally India wont be able to take part in military invasions keeping in mind your internal politics unlike NATO alliance .

Your own serious Indian analysts are of the view that India should not be there since it has no credentials yet

Population of poor if criteria then African countries also deserve to be in .
BTW I still bwahahahaha about the credibility comment by Sashan

You can laugh but even a 4-5% growth(which can happen due to the screwups by the leaders) will catapult India to a more than $5 Trillion nominal GDP country in next 20 years. And keeping that kind of country will only be a loss of credibility. Take China where it was 12 years back and today - Today even someone critical of her has grudgingly accepted her position in the UNSC. So would be the situation for India.

Seriously UN really need India to solve all the problems without India they're a worthless and insignificant world organization?

Here is a list of countries by GDP (2012):

1 United States 16,244,575
2 China 8,221,015
3 Japan 5,960,269
4 Germany 3,429,519
5 France 2,613,936
6 United Kingdom 2,476,665
7 Brazil 2,253,090
8 Russia 2,029,813
9 Italy 2,014,078
10 India 1,841,717

And here is a list of countries by Defence budget (2012):

1 United States 682.0
2 China 166.0
3 Russia 90.7
4 United Kingdom 60.8
5 Japan 59.3
6 France 58.9
7 Saudi Arabia 56.7
8 India 46.1
9 Germany 45.8
10 Italy 34.0

-------------------------------

As we can clearly see, every single member of the P5 has a larger economy than India.

And every single member of the P5 has a larger Defence budget than India.

And let's not even talk about the technological gap.

So by what rationale does India deserve a place in the P5 more than Britain or France do?

Indians want us to respect them. But what have they done to deserve any respect from us?

Did they fight back against imperial Japan?
Did they beat the US in war?
Did they fight the Soviet Union in war?
Did they beat us in war?

India have never beat any major military power in war.

India think because they have a nuclear bomb in the 21st century that the world should respect them. Even a 5th world country like North Korea has nuclear weapons. Big freaking deal.

Indians say they want UNSC veto because they have a big population. The UNSC was given to the victorious powers in WW2. What the hell has India done in anything to deserve UNSC veto power?

When WW2 was happening, the Indians were scratching each others backs inside of mud houses.

You don't demand respect in this world, you earn it.

Kid, go achieve something geopolitically and then come back.

Until then, you will remain a pawn used by the major powers as just a counterbalancing force. India will never be the main force.

You want our respect? Go earn it!
Then we and the rest of the world will take you seriously.

Until then, you will be looked down upon whether you like it or not.

End of story!

heck ya. UNSC will do just fine without UN permanent membership. Haven't that been the case all along?

Without India, UNSC has no legitimacy, you cannot keep 20% of the world's population outside UNSC and claim UNSC to represent the world.

Any future expansion will include India. I say India will be there before 2025. With Russia, France and Britain supporting India directly and with US too giving assurance, China will be forced to say 'yes' or risk direct enmity with India.

Indians do not demand any respect from others, it is chinese culture to demand some thing.

Indians gain respect!!!! END OD STORY.

Chinese as$ was saved by USA, Britain and Russia.

First, this will not be there for long. India is going to go up the ladders

but more importantly, if you claim to be democratic.....majority matters.

Though I agree on most of your comment, I think you need to go back to your history lessons on un & unsc related to india.

You can't coerce China accept India into the P5 membership. France, British, US can't force China hand on any issue in the UN.

The Syria veto being the most obvious example of this.

The entire world was threatening us not to veto the Syria resolution, but we vetoed it anyway.

India is going up the ladder?

With your falling GDP growth and falling Rupee, you've actually fallen down the GDP table from 2011 to 2012. And India is cutting their defence spending too.
