Govt mulls ‘military offensive’ against TTP

Just to understand this better, fundamentally what does TTP want, their own state?, for all of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to follow their laws?, the area to be made autonomous?, army to withdraw?

All the above have to be a no no, a sovereign nation can not give up an inch of its land or its laws (i know that sounds hypocritical given current political unrest but that aside for now). So negotiations become pretty point less if its the case and only solution is taking them out wherever they are relentlessly and anyone who supports them needs taking out, jailing, hanging whatever it is for treason. An iron hand approach unfortunately to stop/curb terrorism.

If we can do one thing and look at the bigger picture. Or look at things/events that are happening in front of us.

Is the general public's love for their army same as it was or has it sunk all the way down. gone into the negative.

so many people who passionately defended the army are cursing it (rightfully so).

If the whole institution has decided to go on a suicide mission then why has this institution decided to go against the public that gave them unconditional love?

see what you cannot do is first instigate the move that causes agitation and then demand that the ego gets a continuous massage as well.

I will end it on this. When will the people of Pakistan get a NRO? what did the 200+ million do to deserve this?
The institution going on a suicide mission is a political view espoused by one political party looking at their own political fortunes (or temporary misfortunes currently.). You have to look at the bigger picture so follow here.

The sorry situation isn't that PTI is against the army for its involvement in the politics, rather their gripe is with the lack of army support for "their" politics. This is where I have an issue with your "cursing, criticizing" and all other hogwash thrown the military's way. You and your leader IK have not learnt anything.

If you were to say "no more military in politics", I am good with it. I agree with you. But you don't say that. You say Army is bad because it does not support IK and army is only good if it supports IK. This means you/we will be in the exact same damned situation every few years.

I am all for keeping the damned BPS-21 officer in his place. Don't you dare give a single CoAS extension from this point on. But that isn't what your leader is saying. He says these things as a mea-culpa but I doubt what he says. If push came to shove, he will give a future CoAS another extension because now the law allows it and it may be in his interest to curry the favor of the sitting CoAS. Bad deal!

To your very last question, who are we kidding about the NRO? This entire god-damned nation (I am included in the now 210M strong) has been getting NROs in ALL walks of life since the founding of this godforsaken country. On every turn, our people have taken short-cuts, broken laws, done excesses (I am talking about a petty peon to a high flying businessman), so let's not shed tears for our masses. People drop the MC/BC bombs on Bajwas, Sharifs, Khans, Bhuttos not realizing that these people come from within us. They become the very chorrs because of short cuts that our people have taken all their lives. Perhaps when they were not big-shots, they did not pay their taxes, once they become big-shots, they simply steal. Either way its theft. So I am done feeling sorry for ourselves. An elderly in my family said to me recently "hamaray amaal itnay burray hain issi liyay yeh ho raha hai" (such are our misdeeds that they invite all of these ills visiting us). So why am I constantly cursing the other when I have been a party to this mess? Apathy, petty corruption, dishonesty amongst the masses have eaten us hollow from within.

This is why I have stated this repeatedly, when one finger is pointed at another, four are pointed at ourselves.

Last time round the CIA had to arm twist Pakistan’s security forces to believing that going after TTP is in their interest.

Even the most basic of national security concepts need to be taught to the Pakistani by the Yanks.

I seriously doubt the knowledge and the will of the higher ups in the army.
Going after TTP was in our interest lest you forget what was going on in Swat at their hands. TTP only cares about one thing i.e destruction of the Pakistani state so they can turn Pakistan into an extension of the current state Afghanistan.

So let's not tell us we don't understand the noorani antics of TTP and their benevolent "neat" (intention) towards Pakistan. We don't need the Americans to tell us any of this. If anything, some of our Pakistanis themselves need clarity beyond their very pacified view of the TTP.

I guess we can cut both some slack, what do you say? ;-)

Surge in terrorism started 2 years back. Some 300 plus terror attacks.
But no one is responsible for the surge!
Military and security establishment the real criminal syndicate responsible for every evil cannot be put to accountability.
We need a Nuremberg trial to hang at least half dozen present/past generals who have destroyed Pakistan with imputiny.

On what charges? Stop making such grand statements with nothing to back them up with. What are you taking to the court to charge the "at least half a dozen generals" with? Can we start with the names of these 6 generals and the charges against them as claimed by you? Every single one of the military takeovers was constitutionally covered so what case are you to make? What about the thousands upon thousands of Pakistanis who danced on the streets of Pakistan upon these military takeovers? Can we charge them as well for aiding and abetting these generals?

A better idea would be to rule effectively and keep the BPS-21 officer in his place instead of using him to further your own office. The Army is not the FSA of ZAB. Our leaders should make sure they look at the military for what it is and not involve it in matters that don't pertain to it.

ISLAMABAD:
Amid an upsurge in terrorist attacks, the country’s civil and military leadership is undertaking a major policy review in order to stem the tide of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), officials familiar with the development told The Express Tribune.

The rise in the TTP-sponsored attacks has pushed the authorities concerned to revisit the strategy pursued by the previous government.

Official sources say closed door discussions are ongoing and major decisions are expected in the next couple of weeks. A meeting of the National Security Committee is likely to be convened to debate and take the crucial measures against the renewed threat from the TTP.

“The situation in certain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in the tribal districts, has deteriorated to the extent that a major military offensive is not ruled out,” an official while speaking on condition of anonymity admitted.

“The talks with the TTP are no longer taking place and the return of militants as part of an earlier understanding will have to be reversed,” the official added.

Officials conceded that the policy of talking with the TTP has backfired and the terror outfit had used the talks to regroup. “It was a big mistake and has to be rectified,” said another official.

There has been a 51 per cent increase in terrorist attacks since the Afghan Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. The suicide attack in Islamabad on Friday was first after several years highlighting the renewed threat posed by TTP.

“Indications are and the situation is such that Pakistan can launch a military offensive against the TTP,” commented Dr Asfand Yar Mir, counter-terrorism expert associated with the US Institute of Peace in Washington.

"Apart from the military offensive, Pakistan may also consider the option of cross-border operations against the TTP," Mir said, adding that the TTP leadership was operating out of Afghanistan with impunity.

Pakistan hoped that the return of the Afghan Taliban would help eradicate the TTP threat. But contrary to those expectations, there has been a spike in the TTP-sponsored attacks.

Since the Taliban takeover, around 420 terrorist attacks were recorded in Pakistan. In three months alone, the banned TTP claimed responsibility for 141 attacks. This despite the fact that in June, the TTP announced an indefinite ceasefire. The TTP ended the truce on November 28, accusing Pakistan for violating the terms of engagements.

Observers believe that Pakistan took the TTP threat lightly and seeking a peace deal with the dreaded group was a major mistake. As part of the confidence-building measure, Pakistani authorities allowed hundreds of TTP militants to return home. The terror outfit like the past used talks and ceasefire to regroup.

Official circles are concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in K-P districts and all options are on the table to deal with the situation.

Wipe this cancer once & for all. Hit them in Afghanistan so the Taliban know that their land will be attacked and they will be impacted

In a perfect world they build a great fortified wall. Talibs don't have the air power or heavy arms power to infiltrate it. Although, Afghanistan is a bit cash strapped so probably easy for Indians to buy their way through.

But even now better to clean up this mess before it gets big and then maybe put fortified posts with 24/7 surveilance on most sensitive entry points on the border and put some artillery there so if there is some movement they just blow them up before they can even enter.

Just a thought.

the army will do what it needs to and that too with or without people's support
army can surely do with or without the support of the people but it cannot win a dime without the support of it's people. I guess we learned nothing from the East Pakistan debacle and this thinking still prevails in the mindset of our colonial army brats.

Hence, my point.

The Pakistani security establishment left it too late until the problem blew up in the face.

Had the Pakistani government been awake and gone after TTP, before the Yanks had to convince, the problem could have been nipped in the bud.

Personally, the Lal Masjid fiasco was left alone for too long due to the apologetic landscape that spans the political, security, judicial spheres. The premise should have been flushed of all terrorists from day 1 and a brutal crackdown on TTP post Lal Masjid would have been the order of the day, but that is hindsight.

We, as a nation, are committing the same mistake. It is time then nation has a consensus and goes after the TTP. With due time, the same will need to be done against the Taliban.

These two para explain the situation perfectly

Ttp believes that they are true Muslim and only there gov is Islamic
We are unislamic

And God has given them free pass to break agreement commit atrocities etc

In there persuit of power

same here . any other country have faced the issues we faced from afghanistan have kicked all afghans and seal the border forever not even birds will allowed to cross . look at arabs did to arabs on borders wven they have same religion language culture and almost everything still not a single yemni was able to cross in KSA and Oman as refugee from land borders . jordan kicked all or syrian and palastinens . lebnon whom allowed both in is destroyed . only a brainless will think millions of afghans in pakistan borders are opened thousands crossign day night and there will be peace in paksitan . its seems establishment do not want peace in pakistan otherwise they can seal it like indian border .
Just sprinkle land mines on the borders

You sure have lived in Pakistan.

Military cannot take part in politics and rebellion against elected governments. That's the short answer.

1. Ayub should be hanged posthumously for 1958 rebellion, martial law, and conspiracy.
2. Yahya for the 2nd martial law, blocking of power transfer to AL, Operation search light, killing of thousands in East Pakistan and surrender to Indian Army.
His accomplices: Gen A Hamid, Gen Sher Ali, Rao Farman, Tikka Khan, Gen AAK Niazi the surrender-e-azam.
3. General Zia for 3rd rebellion in 1977, judicial murder of ZAB, religious bigotry, heroine and gun culture.
His accomplices included: Gen FA chisti, Gen Fzal e Haq.
4. Prvez Musharraf coup of 1999. Pulling Pakistan into WoT, killing of over 80K Pakistanis, the suffering still continue on. His accomplices: Gen Aziz, Gen Mahmood. Also for misadventure of Kargil.
5. Gen Bajwa, Gen Nadeem Anjum, Faisal Naseer for RCO. Assasination of AS and shooting to kill PMIK.

6. Overt and covert political engineering with blatant, evil, purposeful violation of the constitution of Pakistan and in violation of the oath of the armed forces for the past 60 years, the list will inude thousands mid and high level officers.

P.S. You cannot defend the undefenseable.
