The Saudi Arabian path to nuclear weapons

Don't know who writes such columns. If these journalists don't know the terms and conditions of NPT. Only three countries in the world are not signatories of NPT, Pakistan, Israel, and India. Saudi Arabia signed the NPT in 1988 and they have the right to build a nuclear power plant or for health sciences with the help of nuclear supplier groups/approval.

Haider, you did not read the article that was posted, it seems.

Quotes from the article:

"And then, there’s this: Any Korean sale would be covered by a generous 2011 South Korean nuclear cooperative agreement with Riyadh that explicitly authorizes the Saudis to enrich any uranium it might receive from Seoul. Under the agreement, Riyadh could enrich this material by up to 20 percent, without having to secure Seoul’s prior consent."

"As if to prove the point, late in 2020, word leaked that the Saudis have been working secretly with the Chinese to mine and process Saudi uranium ore. These are steps toward enriching uranium—and a possible nuclear weapon program."

"Unlike the Emirates, which legally renounced enriching uranium or reprocessing spent fuel to separate plutonium, the Kingdom insists on retaining its “right” to enrich. Also, unlike most members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Saudi Arabia refuses to allow intrusive inspections that might help the IAEA find covert nuclear weapons-related activities, if they exist, under a nuclear inspections addendum known as the Additional Protocol."

"Saudi Arabia’s enrichment program and refusal to adopt the Additional Protocol, doubled with a possible permissive South Korean reactor sale, could spell trouble."

"This sounds fine. But there’s a catch. South Korean officials insist that its APR-1400 design, which uses a Combustion Engineering data package that Westinghouse now owns, is entirely indigenous. Focusing on the matter of technology transfer authority also begs a bigger question: Does the Republic of Korea need Washington’s blessing to begin enriching uranium itself or to transfer enrichment technology to other countries, such as Saudi Arabia?

The short answer is no."

KSA is the biggest prize in the region for the world powers due to its tremendous riches (only Russia and the US has more natural and mineral wealth in the world), geographic size, most important/influential Islamic nation in the world, Makkah and Madinah, strategic location bordering the most strategic seas in the world (Suez, Bab al-Mandab, Strait of Hurmuz) and at the crossroads of 3 continents (Asia, Africa and Europe).

Most importantly, KSA already has access to our nuclear weapons if it will ever need one and we offer them (officially it has been stated indirectly many times) a nuclear umbrella (Makkah and Madinah) since their financing of our nuclear weapons program.

But this is here where it gets really tricky. Xi is going to visit KSA soon (apparently) and KSA will/has the Chinese option (instead of the South Korean) and also the Russian. After the Ukraine war started, KSA is the country that most benefits from this war while most others are in big economic trouble. They have more influence now than even before. Look at how world leaders have been flocking to KSA (Biden, EU President, other world and regional leaders). We will see how it will end, but KSA has all the cards on its hands. They just need to play them right.

Saudi Arabians are not allowed to visit Iran and nobody is visiting it to begin with outside of the small minority of Shias that might go visit it to visit shrines of dead Arabians from modern-day KSA, after visiting Iraq. Because direct travel from KSA to Iran is banned as the two countries have no relations. I won't exclude that 5-10 of such people (lol) might go to Iran to receive a cheap hair transplant or something else.

The healthcare system of KSA is literally ranked 50 places higher than both Iran and Egypt.

No comparison.

Similarly with literacy rates, education etc.

Nobody lost anything. Before March 2015, Houthis controlled all of Yemen. Now they control 20%.

Besides long-term Houthis cannot live without KSA, they need peace desperately. Yemen will always be in the sphere of influnece of KSA, geography and history dictates that.
In general medical tourists from Kuwait a d Bahrain and even Oman are already going to Iran for medical tourism...for example Shiraz is a popular destination. They could as well go to Riyad right?
Ofcourse price-quality is important when comparing medical services. If saudi medical services are too expensive, they'll select other destination.

And about the science output, you can't compare with Iran. Saudi system where foreign researches and teachers assist, teach and publish is different from the independent education system in Iran.

Africa's largest hydroelectric dam has completed its 3rd round of water filling due to this year's extraordinary rainfall! I wonder what our Egyptian neighbors and Arab brothers at large think about the news that the erosion flow of the fertile Nile has been affected by the dam.

Welcome.
This is something that only directly impacts Sudan and Egypt, in particular the latter.
It does not impact other Arab countries directly, other than possible refugee/migration movements from Sudan and Egypt due to climate changes and the possible effects of the dam on the nile in Sudan and Egypt.

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but China is behind that dam in Ethiopia. So it is very doubtful if they will allow any regional country from harming this project. I think that diplomacy is the way forward.

It is only due to it being cheaper. The sole reason, and it is a tiny minority. Most, if they go abroad, go either to the West or if a cheaper option is needed, they go to Turkey. And they go to those countries mainly only for cosmetic surgeries. Hair transplants are a huge thing for Arabs and Iranians in Turkey.

No, official rankings tell it like it is. Foreigners play a marginal role in the Saudi Arabian educational system nowadays, it was different decades ago when the main universities were being established but that was also the case in Iran under the Shah. The Brits similarly established all the modern learning centers in Egypt. There is no denying this. Similarly in Pakistan.

Almost every Saudi Arabian has a university degree nowadays with STEM being a huge thing for the new generation, in particular Saudi Arabian women.

2/3 of KSA's native population (almost 30 million natives nowadays) is under 25 years of age.

Bro, I don't know what you are a smoking, but you need to share it. Let us just leave it at that. Good stuff (jokes) with the Somalis and going to Egypt for healthcare and "losing" in Yemen or KSA "not being able to protect itself", lol.

In the real world KSA has received more investments from abroad than any other regional country in recent years.

Also KSA's strategic ties with China and other world powers are on a different level from those of Egypt (no disrespect but the comparison is a joke just look at the KSA-China trade and compare it with Egypt-China) so for you to make some nonsense up of Sisi being needed or relevant for KSA to move it "away from USA" (lol) must be some kind of joke. Egypt, from what I am aware of, still receives military support from the US (literally begging) and if you take pride in that, so be it, but don't put KSA in the same box in this regard. They have an actual independent policy and can actually directly influence the world powers, unlike most regional actors. I would only include Turkey (NATO) in this list and Israel. Those are facts. One can deny this or not, it won't change the reality.
Independent policies LOL
And no the UAE and tureky are the biggest even Egypt has higher investment rates in 2020.
Very very embarrassing for you to not mention the military and economic aid is part of camp david and is the US's way to save the treaty as sadat wanted repruccsions from Israel as he won, ISrael refused so the US offered to pay instead of Israel in this form. And please dont make me laugh, influencing world powers by oil and money? Independent foreign policies????????????? And the multiple meetings from every single president or king in the gulf jordan and Iraq with Sisi to unite objectives before the historic meeting with the US is the biggest evidence for my ted talk and how where everyone unites is in Cairo and thats what i call leadership. The media boost really gave you a name.

Its part of the reason why the gulf travels abroad. Their's is too expensive and not as effective as abroad, especially in Egypt where its cheaper and the doctors are generally way more proffessional and Egyptian medicine is more effective than even European brands and i speak from personal experince and my family's

Either there should be a world of no nuclear weapons or Eyran, Turkey, Egypt, and KSA must also become nuclear powers....

WDYM etraordinary rainfall? 13- 14B cubic meteres of water are stored and focus on your current civil war instead.

LOL.

So the visits of all relevant leaders to KSA (just in recent months) from Biden, President of the European Council, Erdogan, all Arab leaders, most Muslim leaders etc. did not occur. And rumors of Xi making his first state visit after COVID-19 to KSA of all countries.

Far more independent policy than Egypt, you have literally been propped up by the GCC, otherwise you would have collapsed economically, and here you are talking about "independent" policy and saying that you have a more independent policy than KSA, the largest economy in the region, and the country with the closest ties to world powers (other than Israel to the US).

With $1.1tn investment, Saudi Arabia to become the world’s biggest construction site: Global real estate consultancy Knight Frank

KSA-China trade ties:

"Annual bilateral trade volume was worth USD 87.31 billion at the end of 2021, an almost 209-fold increase from USD 418 million when diplomatic relations were established in 1990, just over thirty years ago.5"

China-Egypt trade ties in comparison (14 billion USD, of which 13.3 billion (!) are Chinese exports to Egypt - talk about a negative trade balance)

But sure, Egypt has more important and strategic ties with world powers than KSA haha.

I am ending it here, as it is becoming absurd.

You are right, Egypt is the superpower of the world, largest economy, richest people in the region while KSA is marginally stronger than Djibouti. Egypt won all its wars against Israel too, that's what deluded nationalistic Egyptians preach to the world (as the only ones), speaking about wars. Sisi is also completely independent, and not propped up by KSA/GCC which the entire world knows is the case. Unlike many Pakistanis here, I don't have a problem with Egypt at all, but your posts do not contribute to anything.

The war in Northern Ethiopia is more like neoclassical propaganda campaign supported by media disinformation campaign to divide us because our patriotic citizens failed and and some sellouts tried to let outsiders in our land to plunder more resources while others from across the ocean saw our geostationary location in Africa as an issue instead. And you my friend please don’t take it seriously and act like you’re bloated from eating too much fava 😂

In reality, international ‘loan’ was an mini me Egyp Pharos plot to internationalize the project and deprive Ethiopia of the vital right to hold the crucial key to sovereignty and advance our own ambitions. The said loans were not to build dams, but to attract corrupt people to sell us something else that didn’t rich the pockets of the normal citizens. Now that the situation in Northern Ethiopia is controlled and our natural resources are reclaimed our mind will no longer remain foreclosed to build the great Ethiopian giant nation from the ground up. We will all benefit from the it and will show care to our lower basin neighbours especially our Sudanese bros!

I think that Ethiopia has a promising future and I think that KSA/Arabian countries can become constructive partners of Ethiopia like throughout so much of history. I rate Ethiopia and Nigeria as the most promising African economies long-term. The two most populous African nations as well.

Peace and prosperity in the Horn of Africa could also benefit Western Asia greatly as direct trade between Africa and West Asia (other parts of Asia too) could be directly connected.

There was once talk of a bridge between Yemen and Djibouti to connect Arabia (Asia) with Horn of Africa (Africa) directly.

I think that such a connection will one day be built once the region becomes stable. I think that KSA/China could fund such a project easily.

Also, rare to talk with Ethiopian user, do you think that Ethiopia will reclaim/add Eritrea so you can have a direct sea access to the Red Sea again? From the outside I don't understand how such a small country like Eritrea could gain independence and survive for this long against a 125 million nation like Ethiopia.

Also what is the history of Djibouti other than being a military base for the world with KSA, China, UAE, France and many others having military bases there?

I'm 1/2 Eritrean but I'm not from there or to be precise I wasn't born there but I know many of my relatives are half Ethiopian and Somali. Djibouti, like the Afar and Somali peoples, are peoples weakened by the wave of colonialism and we have seen the painful history of France trying to divide and rule the region, in any way,

Same peoples who were got tired by just one of the waves of colonialism and who saw the painful history of France attempt at divide and rule of the costal region.

I think that the future will correct those fake borders/fake nations. Either by the free will of people (realizing themselves that such small countries cannot survive on their own long-term or without outside support/meddling). Take the GCC as an example. All those small GCC states belong to KSA historically (Arabia) with native imperial, Caliphates, kingdoms, ruling dynasties from modern-day KSA ruling/controlling those countries. Since the Dilmun civilization 5000 + years ago. For instance the Brits divided Eastern Arabia into "fake" modern nations such as Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain (all part of historical Eastern Arabian and Southern Mesopotamia) so not to create an Arab hegemony (1 huge united Arab country) in the region. Most troubles in Yemen, for instance, would be solved if Arabia united into 1 federal state like throughout much of history. Outsiders are not interested in this/fear it and there is also a problem of the rulers who don't want to give up their thrones for the better good of the collective.

Take Jordan (geographically and historically a part of Northern Arabia, all the natives similarly), it was created by the Brits as compensation for the Hashemites who lost their power in Hijaz after Ibn Saud united KSA. Other conquest attempts were made in all neighboring countries (which would have been successful) if not for British military (Air Force 100 + years ago one of the first air raids was against the Ikhwan by the Brits).

Luckily the GCC was created and they are moving towards a federal state eventually.

We see similar stuff in Africa, many fake/arbitrary borders, good examples being Eritrea and Djibouti.

And lets talk about the reasons for each visit. oil. Before the biden visit every leader there sat down with Sisi indvisually including MBS to refuse the oil order from biden and to put pressure to stop his policies towards the region and list terms on him from each country. The EU has visited Egypt before hand for gas deals and green hydrogen and electrcity deals and other stuff not mentioned which include the situation in libya and Usraeli gas will be liquified in Egypt as i have responded to another Iranian member about the gas relationship between both. Turkish and qatari normlizations climb the ladder from the Gulf to finally reach Egypt as the final destination. I wonder why. Qatari gas and east med gas will be liquified in Egypt and hopefully the whole region soon. Non oil exports of the kingdom literally is laughable compared to its oil. KSA exports to china are all OIL related so much so to all the countries in this globe. Building investments in SA often fail to complete and the largest Corruption military deal in the world is by the KSA and alot alot of failed projects, the only thing i would really clap for is the ease of investment in the kingdom since 2021 and woman are now allowed to drive.NEOM Currently being doubted by everyone and lets wait and see if this also fails. Iraq, Egypt is doing the nessacry ground work in Iraq as in building up its military factories and to use its petrol gas more effecintly as part of an EU style economic union that the UAE is intrested to join on (The new Leavant). KSA's importance is because of oil and is a prominent milking institution for everyone to milk. Surely sisi is an agent to GCC in spacetoon and the current normilazation with qatar is to put pressure on the UAE due to its support to ethiopia and both will compete to raise up investments in Egypt to counter each other while Egypt reaps the benefits and milk them both as usual after qatar wanted renormilization on Egyptian terms. As i have said Egyptian policy makers are not a show off and dont fail so often like their saudi counterpart and do the job quite effeciently. Independent foreign policy my ***.

Al-Hasani, enmity aside, try to visit Iran and see how modern it is (atleast the major cities especially the capital city). I want to bet with you that you would rank it even higher than Istanbul.

Many South Asians come to Iran for medical tourism as is the case with many others. So i do not know why you think this is ''impossible''. Sure, Saudi is not sanctioned and has perhaps better access to markets/facilities but compared to a country that has been under sanctions for 4+ decades it is not doing much better.

Soon Saudis will open an embassy in Tehran and you might be able to ask for a visa.
