Because Buddhism was against the concept of vertical caste hierarchy and came up with the revolutionary idea that all humans are created equals, which threatened the very essence of Hinduism. But there was no concept like Jihad in Buddhism that's why they were wiped out by the Sanatan Dharmis.

At least not in Pakistani Punjab, "Malangs" in Pakistani Punjab still continue the ancient Bhuddist tradition of "meditation dance" or "dhamal" even to this day by merging their own "distinct" centuries old meditation traditions and "attire" with the local sufiism. Just look at these,
