Musharraf set to step down from army

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan - Gen. Pervez Musharraf will step down as head of Pakistan's military and be sworn in as a civilian president on Thursday, an army spokesman said.

"He is going to take oath as has been announced by government on the 29th, most probably, so he is going to take off his uniform a day before that," spokesman Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said Monday.

Civilian officials have repeatedly said that Musahrraf would step down imminently as army chief, a key demand of domestic opponents threatening to boycott January's parliamentary elections. But Arshad's statement was the first from the military naming a date for him to restore direct civilian rule.

So finally we are moving towards a civilian president and a road to democracy afterall. Lets hope he stays there for five more years as the president of pakistan. But one question that arises in mind, though the military is backing him up, still would he be as powerful being a civilian president as he was a military one.

He should do this before some unknown silent assasins from his own men sent him to "other office". Maybe sent by his Junior Generals. Anyways he did a great job as a military President.

Direct Civilian Rule. I like that catch phrase.
