Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) has already brought 90 per cent villages under power coverage, state news agency BSS reports quoting state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid as saying.

“Activities for bringing the rest of 10 per cent villages under electrify access have been underway,” the minister said while replying to a question from treasury bench member Muhibur Rahman Manik in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.

He said the government is expected to ensure 100 per cent electrification to all villages by December 2018.

Replying to another question from reserved seat member Safura Begum, Nasrul told the parliament that the government has undertaken various projects in

different terms aimed at implementing “Sheikh Hasina’s initiatives supply power to every house” by 2021.

“The power generation capacity has already reached to 18,353 MW and the government has fixed its target to increase electricity generation capacity to 24,000 MW by 2021,”

He said the government has also undertaken different projects to improve capacity of distribution and transmission line compared to power generation.

Presently, distribution line increased to 450,000 kilometre, transmission 11,060 circuit kilometre and capacity of the grid substation reached to 35,040 MVA, according to the minister.

“We have a plan to increase capacity of distribution and transmission line into twice as part of the 100 per cent electrification by 2021,” he added.

The country’s 90 per cent villages have come under electricity coverage while the government tries its best to ensure 100 per cent electrification of all villages by December this year, the state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid told this in parliament while replying to lawmakers’ queries on Thursday.
‘Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board has already brought 90 per cent villages under power coverage. Activities for bringing the rest of 10 per cent villages under electrify access have been underway,’ said the state minister.

Responding to a further question, Nasrul informed the House that his ministry had given instruction to the respective authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity across the country during world cup football matches.

‘There is no shortage of electricity in the country as capacity to produce electricity is higher than demand. But electricity disruption takes place sometimes due to limitations in transmission and supply networks, scarcity in gas supply and more usage of air-conditions and fans in summer,’ he said.

‘Under the circumstances, instructions were given to monitor the entire electricity management to keep normal the supply of electricity during the football world cup,’ added Nasrul.

Replying to another question, Nasrul told parliament that the government had undertaken various projects in different terms aimed at implementing ‘Sheikh Hasina’s initiatives, power supply to every house by 2021.’

‘The power generation capacity has already reached to 18,353 MW and the government has fixed its target to increase electricity generation capacity to 24,000 MW by 2021,’ he added.
He said the government had also undertaken different projects to improve capacity of distribution and transmission line along with power generation.

‘We have a plan to increase capacity of distribution and transmission line into twice as part of the 100 per cent electrification by 2021,’ Nasrul Hamid said.
In response to a query, he informed the House that the government had no plan to give gas supply through pipelines to households as the ministry had been promoting LP gas for household affairs.

It is disgusting to read this kind of BD-style economic forecasting. I do not know about the percentage, but electricity has certainly reached many parts of the country, albeit, with very low voltage. If only 10,000 MW can electrify the entire country, and run all the factories, businesses, and shops, why it is then necessary to take the power production to 40,000 MW or more? Is it the coming election that the BD ministers are talking like a weather station?

Like I say, are you stupid?

Do you have any idea about how energy demand grows very fast with economic growth in a country at the stage that BD is at?

Some of those villages that have been connected may not even be able to afford much electricity now but may 5-10 years down the line. As income rises so demand for energy will rise as people buy fridges, tvs, washing machines etc.

Some people are calling you are false flagger but maybe you are mentally impaired?

WHAT??? Rest of the news is really good but why wouldn't they ensure supply of gas through pipelines?

While I am sure demand isn't that low but consider this simple example,

An average Japanese household and an average Bangladeshi household. Japanese household would have many electric appliances and things like AC and such. So an average household electricity demand for Japanese is much much higher than an average Bangladeshi one. Even if you provide more electricity, it would be pointless because an average Bangladeshi cannot afford an AC or other dishwasher and such.

Same with industry. How many industry are there in Japan and how big are each with extent of need for electricity? We don't need to crunch the number to know the demand in Bangladeshi industries would be astronomically lower than in Japan because Japan is a century ahead.

As for why then BD would need to set target of 40,000. Unlike Japan, which is already highly developed and wouldn't have much increase in demand, BD is a fast developing country. As the country develops, there will be more industries that would have demand for more electricity. With rising development, household income would rise, so would their spending. They would able to afford more and demand for electricity would rise with it.

Coming back to demand being met in BD though, as I said I think demand is much higher than 10k. But the electricity that is provided isn't as bad, at least most of the needs are met. And I wouldn't want all the money to be put to electricity just for more 24 hours uninterrupted supply everywhere because government money is limited for this poor country and there's more to peoples need than just electricity.

Yes, I am a stupid and now I know the Chetona minister was talking only 'Baat ki Baat'. Everyone will get power after 10 years as per you and not by December this year, as per the Chetona minister. Are you here to challenge your stupid BAL propaganda? Do you think, only Chetona guys know the reality and not others like us? Grow up and grow your brain. How long you want to remain an ignorant fool?

People are more concerned about getting 2 light bulbs and a fan in their home to start with. 99% of the village homes are not fit for air conditioning nor hitting system. So the demand for power is low. But getting the connectivity is the main priority now.

You have to read my first post before you talk about Japanese and BD demands of power.

Its not BD exclusive style, its a normal 3rd world country style.

Enough to run led light and fan. And, that was the plan...

Unimportant areas get low voltage supply and has day time load shedding problem.
Is it the coming election that the BD ministers are talking like a weather station?
Bangladeshi politicians are 3rd class, you should know that...

Atleast this year I face almost no loadsheding .
And highest loadsheding time was 30 minutes and no more than 2 times a day.
So total loadsheding time is 30 mins to one hour in a day and not every days.
However in last one month load shedding is only 7/8 days.
Thanks to the BAL Govt.
PS :
BAL Govt is playing opposition role and some expat fools should understand this .
Electricity production is never ever 10000 MW but much more I believe.
Still why govt is providing false data? Only to prove that they are extremely democratic and their own folks critisize them.
Those fools (some over smart individuals in govt )made me laugh, they think that Bengalis are fool so they will be happy that govt made confession that only 10000 MW electricity is producing.
And govt is partially successful as some fools are believing them.
However thanks to this govt that they are producing electricity with normal to high voltage.

Well if some aliens demand Japanese facilities for Bangladeshis suddenly, then there's nothing I can say.

Dude you clearly are a psuedo scientist here. You think higher voltage means more power. But in reality voltages is the easiest thing to be fixed. It can be taken to millions of volts keeping power constant. If you have voltage issue its 99 % because of the local transformer being faulty than being a national issue.

10,000 MW electricity is certainly will not be enough to electrify all the home in Bangladesh what @bluesky is harping here about. Pakistan produce around 20,000MW and their electricity connection reached 99% household. While 76% household in Bangladesh get electricity in 2016 according to world Bank. So if we accept Pakistani amount to be baseline, than we need around 15,000MW (factoring the lower population and less energy need in BD due to our less extreme climate than Pakistan). Some big power plant will be operational in September/October this year and our installed capacity will rise to 20,000MW according to minister. So the actual production may be around 13,000 MW by then.So it is certainly a possibility that, 90 percent household in Bangladesh will be under national grid by the end of this year.So reaching 15,000 MW production in 2021 and giving 100 percent household electricity is not a pipe dream. After 2021, our target then will shift to increase per capita electricity consumption. We will need 60,000 MW electricity production to become a higher middle income country.

@Homo Sapiens bhai ami kintu hal chaira disi. Kisu manusher er kaj hoilo khochakhuchi kora. Zotoi bujhan lav nai.
Kuttar lej konodin soja hoise na hobe? ;) .
Atleast we are almost free from loadsheding, living a better life in this cruel summer.
Even this is technically rainy season but where is the expected rain?
Atleast people can run fan with electricity and they are alive.

Anyway bluesky will not understand it.
I wish I could tie him ( or his type pseudo intellectuals )with a rope under the sun in summer without fan and without cold water.
I want to do it regularly 16/17 hours. And also no electricity in sleep time.
This is the only way to make him ( or amateur like him ) understand that why I am ( or my types) still supporting this government, who's ideology is polar opposite to my ideology.
