Z-10 & Z-19 Combat Helicopter News & Discussion

Navigation light. Apply on every aircraft (including helicopters) in the World, and for both military and civilian aircraft. Also used in ships and spacecraft.

A navigation light, also known as a running or position light, is a source of illumination on a watercraft, aircraft or spacecraft, meant to give information on the craft's position, heading, or status. Some navigation lights are colour-coded red and green to aid traffic control by identifying the craft's orientation. Their placement is mandated by international conventions or civil authorities such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Thank you very much

Do we have any recent rumours about the new heavy weight attack helicopter?

Via EastPendelum: According to WU Xi Ming, chief engineer of the Z-10 and Z-19 military helicopters, a new generation of products is "already on the way". To be continued.

Z-19 is armed scout helicopter. It scouts/recons for location of threat/enemy defense as well as targets.

Z-19 can work with other helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. It can also act as escort for tanks/armoured columns, or work alone if necessary.

Z-19, Z-10 and UAVs are the air components of PLA ground forces combined brigades.
Is the Z-19 expected to have an EO/IR mast like the one that was on the Kiowa Warriors?

One Z-19 with a EO/IR mast and another with a MMW radar mast, working in conjunction, could be very potent in locating and confirming targets.

Could be very useful in the mountainous terrain of Taiwan, moving behind mountain ridges. Especially if a PLAN marine landing force moved in from the less populated and probably less defended east coast of Taiwan, and moves over the mountains to do a pincher move, in conjunction with the PLA Navy and PLA army on Taiwan’s west coast.

This would only be a stopgap, a faster more stealthy helicopter like the Bell Invictus 360 would be needed to be survivable in the world modern air defenses.

But in the men time, a mast mounted EO/IR mast could be useful in training marines, and keeping the light scout helicopter niche viable.

Once in the dense cities of Taiwan, a light helicopter would be better suited for the terrain.

There is no indication that Z-19 will have EO/IR mast. And I don't think they will develop one in the future since all Z-19 have nose mounted EO turrets.

IMO, China will move towards UCAV which can take over the roles of Z-19. UCAV have longer endurance and are expendable.

What is the expected role of the Z-19? Light attack only?

After witnessing a year of war in Ukraine, I think attack helicopters' effectiveness on the battlefield is questionable against opponents with decent air defenses. At the very minimum, China should look into investing into unmanned drones to take the place of WZ-10 and WZ-19 for close air support missions.
