  • KSRelief is making great efforts to rehabilitate former child soldiers in Yemen
  • Houthis lost 272 fighters pushing the number of casualties to 681
RIYADH: The legitimate Yemeni forces backed by the Arab coalition are making headway on all major fronts against the Iranian-backed Houthis across Yemen, said Col. Turki Al-Maliki, the coalition spokesman.
Addressing the weekly press conference in Riyadh on Monday, Al-Maliki said the coalition is also making efforts to coordinate with the political, social and tribal components of Yemen to restore peace and foil the Houthi militia’s attempts to destabilize the country.
Citing the statement recently issued by the Yemeni Religious Scholars’ Association condemning Houthi actions, Al-Maliki said the Yemenis have rejected the militia.
The Yemeni scholars accuse the Houthis of looting humanitarian aid meant for the thousands of internally displaced Yemenis. They also called on the international community to take note of these atrocities and take appropriate measures to stop the Houthis.
The coalition spokesman also highlighted the relief operations being carried out in Yemen. He said the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) has launched an educational campaign to supply 5,000 chairs and tables and 150,000 books to schools in Yemen.
He said the humanitarian operations in Yemen are in full swing and the Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations Plan in Yemen implemented by KSRelief has benefited as many as 5,168, 509 people in 181 days.
Al-Maliki said the Yemeni forces have taken control of various areas in Saada province and other parts of Yemen.
“The coalition has targeted a building used by the Houthi militias as a point to assemble their fighters, a number of military communication stations, a supply truck in Midi, a checkpoint, a weapons supply point, and a military truck used to transport weapons to the terrorist militias,”

he said.

Between July 16 and 23, he added, Houthis lost 272 fighters pushing the number of casualties to 681.
Al-Maliki said that Saada and Omran governorates are still serving as ballistic missiles launching platforms toward Saudi Arabia. He said two missiles were launched from Saada toward Jazan and Najran between July 16 and 23.
The spokesman said as many as 163 ballistic missiles and 66,362 projectiles have been fired at the Kingdom so far.
He said KSRelief is also making great efforts to rehabilitate former child soldiers in Yemen.
So far, he added, 188 child soldiers have been rehabilitated.

‘Release all detainees first’

Yemen’s government on Sunday said Houthis should release all detainees and captives held in their prisons ahead of peace talks, reported the Associated Press.
The official news agency SABA quoted the government as saying that the Houthis should also hand over their arms and withdraw from all areas including the capital, Sanaa, which they seized in September 2014.
The agency says Prime Minister Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr made the remarks in a meeting with Martin Griffiths, UN special envoy for Yemen.
Last month, Griffiths announced plans to bring Yemen’s warring parties to the negotiating table. He held several meetings with both sides since.

Saudi-led coalition continues efforts to contact political, social and tribal components in Yemen — Al-Maliki

July 23, 2018

RIYADH: Saudi-led Coalition Spokesperson, Col. Turki Al-Maliki, said on Monday that coalition forces have been making concerted efforts to contact political, social and tribal components in Yemen.
Speaking at the Armed Forces Club in Riyadh, Al-Maliki said that the Yemeni people reject the actions of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, highlighting the statement of the Yemeni Religious Scholars’ Association, which condemned the Houthis for looting humanitarian aid and called on the international community and organizations to work to prevent these acts.
Al-Maliki also said that an educational campaign had been launched by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) to provide 5,000 chairs and 5,000 tables for Yemeni schools.
He confirmed that humanitarian operations are still operating at full capacity, adding that the total permits issued by the coalition forces has reached 27,937 since the beginning of the military operations.
He also said that Hodeidah Port represents the financial artery of the Houthi militia, who loot the humanitarian aid and sell it on the black market.
Col. Al-Maliki praised the Comprehensive Humanitarian Operations Plan in Yemen implemented by the KSRelief Center, noting that as many as 5,168,509 people had benefited from the humanitarian operations over the last 181 days.
Meanwhile, he said that the Saada and Omran governorates are still serving as ballistic missile launch platforms toward Saudi Arabia, citing that two missiles were launched between Jul. 16-23 from Saada toward Jazan and Najran.
On the ground, the Yemeni national army, supported by the Saudi-led coalition, has taken back control of a number of directorates affiliated to Saada province, including sites of militarily strategic important for an advancing army.
“The Coalition has targeted a building used by the Houthi militia as a point to assemble their fighters, a number of military communication stations, a supply truck in Midi, a check point, a weapons supply depot, and a military truck used to transport weapons to the terrorist militia.
He said as many as 163 ballistic missiles and 66,362 projectiles have been launched so far, with losses of the Iran-backed Houthi militias reaching 272 sites, weapons and equipment, in addition to 681 Houthi terrorists killed in action.

The Houthi terrorist cult are publicly begging Vladimir Putin (the same guy that has close ties with MbS and similarly Russia with KSA) to help end the conflict. Well, just around 10% of Yemen is yet to be liberated. The Yemeni army with the aid of the Arab coalition will make life an even bigger misery for the Houthi terrorist cult sellouts.

SAUDI-LED COALITION DESTROYS COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTER OF HOUTHIS IN CENTRAL YEMEN

22.07.2018

Illustrative image

On July 22, warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition conducted four airstrikes on a command and control center of the Houthis in the district of Anss in the central province of Dhamar, according to the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV.

Local sources said that the center, which was located inside a local technical institute, was fully destroyed as a result of the coalition’s airstrikes. Furthermore, al-Arabiya reported that several fighters of the Houthis working in the center were killed and injured.

This was the second attack of the Saudi-led coalition on the communication infrastructure of the Houthis in July. Two weeks ago, coalition warplanes destroyed a military communication network of the Houthis in the districts of Razih and Haydan in the northern province of Saada.

Yemeni army tightens noose around Saada

Al Houthi infiltration bid thwarted in militant stronghold near Saudi border

Cairo: Yemeni government forces, supported by a Saudi-led Arab Coalition, have further advanced into Saada, the northern stronghold of Iran-aligned Al Houthi militants, an army commander said on Saturday.

Brigadier Yasser Al Harthi, the chief of the elite 102nd Brigade, told Al Arabiya television that the army is encircling the district of Baqim in the northern side of Saada from all directions. “It is a matter of a few metres and the army will enter the centre of Baqim,” he added.

“Al Houthis are experiencing a state of breakdown amid mobilisation in their ranks, prompting them to send groups of duped child fighters to the fronts.”

In recent weeks, the Yemeni government, supported by the Arab Coalition, has pursued a multi-front campaign in Yemen, including Saada, Al Houthis’ far northern bastion near the Saudi border.

The Iran-aligned extremists have used Saada as a launch pad for firing ballistic missiles across the border into the Saudi territory. Last week, Saudi air defences intercepted and destroyed two such missiles.

Government loyalists have retaken several strategic positions from Al Houthis west of Baqim after fierce clashes with the militants, according to field sources.

Military forces, backed by the coalition, foiled an infiltration attempt by Al Houthis targeting government-controlled positions west of Baqim, an unnamed military commander told Al Arabiya. In a counter-attack, the Yemeni army recaptured hilltops overlooking Baqim.

“[Al Houthi] militias suffered heavy casualties and material losses as a result,” he added.

In September 2014, Al Houthis overran the Yemeni capital Sana’a in a coup against the internationally recognised government. They later swept other Yemeni territory.

In March 2015, the Arab Coalition initiated a military campaign in Yemen against Al Houthis after the militants advanced on the southern city of Aden, the temporary capital of the country after their takeover of Sana’a.

Washington: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashemi and UAE ambassador to the US, Yousuf Al Otaiba, briefed US government and UN officials on the Arab Coalition’s humanitarian assistance efforts and push for a political resolution in Yemen.

In a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths, the UAE officials expressed their support for Griffiths’ efforts to facilitate Al Houthis’ peaceful handover of Hodeida port and city to the legitimate government of Yemen.

“We had very productive discussions with the administration and members of Congress to discuss the Arab Coalition’s efforts to restore the legitimate government in Yemen and prevent Iranian interference,” said Al Otaiba.

“We also discussed our combined efforts with the US to ensure regional security.”

The UAE is part of a Saudi-led Arab Coalition that is in Yemen at the invitation of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and in compliance with UN Security Council Resolutions.

In a series of meetings with officials in Washington, including US Agency for International Development Acting Deputy Administrator David Moore, Al Hashemi and Al Otaiba provided updates on the coalition’s efforts to restore the legitimate government of Yemen and address the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people.

“The UAE is working closely with the Special Envoy and UN agency partners. We are committed to ensuring access for humanitarian assistance and achieving a political solution to restore the legitimate government,” she said.

Total UAE assistance to Yemen from April 2015 to June 2018 amounted to $3.78 billion.

The UAE has contributed $465 million toward the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan in Yemen for 2018.

The meetings signaled the importance of the UAE partnership with the US on shared security priorities.

US general ‘satisfied’ with UAE response to Yemen torture report

A top US general said Thursday he is “satisfied” with the United Arab Emirates’ response following a report alleging human rights violations in a string of Emirati-run prisons in Yemen.

Amnesty International last week published a report calling for investigations into a network of unofficial prisons across southern Yemen where it said “egregious violations” have been committed, including enforced disappearances and torture.

The UAE has dismissed the report as politically motivated and said it does not manage or run any prisons in the war-torn country.

General Joe Votel, who heads the US Central Command that oversees US operations in the Middle East, said he had spoken to Emirati counterparts on the issue.

“I am satisfied that the appropriate investigations are underway to determine the facts associated with this,” Votel told Pentagon reporters.

“We have confidence that (the Emiratis) will continue to operate in a manner that befits their values and ours.”

A beautiful map of beautiful and ancient Yemen.

Even better. Houthi, AQAP and ISIS terrorist cultists are killing each other.

Hudaydah port in control of Yemeni and coalition forces.

Law and order will be restored to beautiful and ancient Yemen soon and cancerous elements within the country and outside of it (that want to destroy it) will not succeed. We must help Yemen at all times as done currently.

Taking Sanaa is easy. Occupying Sanaa is difficult. The US took Baghdad within weeks but ended up having to pack and leave after heavy casualties.

What happened to other threads I was banned from one and the other one got closed in 2015 anyway we have a lot of problem to deal with and I don't know much about the Yemeni situation

The problem with Yemen it's the same problem with Afghanistan and Somalia and Libya now many factions can't agree on something

@SALMAN F

I was banned as well from the thread (must have been 3 years ago) for posting graphic content (just when it was not allowed any longer) if I recall and the old detailed Yemeni Civil War thread disappeared or was deleted.

Anyway we have a new one here on the Arab section. Best option.

Actually there are 4 main waring parties in Yemen currently.

AQAP (some 3000-4000 terrorists), ISIS (some 500 terrorists), Houthis (too many to count as they are drafting poor people and 1000's of child soldiers left and right, hardcore supporters/members are probably around 10.000 or something along those lines - many of the main terrorist families are connected through marriage) and Southern Separatists.

All can be dealt with.

I believe that what Hadi did before the Houthi terrorist cult takeover back in September 2014, granting autonomy to the South and other regions, would solve most of the grievances.

6 federal regions.

Houthis (due to their numbers and due to them waging several wars against the Yemeni state since 1994 and being the strongest party of all those 4 by far) are the biggest problem for Yemen afterwards AQAP (which is luckily nothing like ISIS was at its height in Iraq and Syria and likely never will be).

Northerners and Southerners can reach a deal easily if leadership is doing what they should be doing.

Hadi would have done well if not for the civil war.

Anyway quite a few challenges but we can say the same about every country in the region.

Identical to the old Iraqi Republican Guard and the officers are also lookalikes totally. Not strange if knowing the Iraqi history and the great number of People/Qahtani/Yemeni origin tribes/clans that settled Iraq beginning with almost 3000 years ago. The similarity is remarkable. I have always noticed this. Very evident in Southern Iraq in particular.

The people also love each other I have noticed.

Don't forget that Ba'athi Iraq's greatest Arab ally (IMO) was not Syria or Egypt but actually Yemen (Saleh).

Saddam's daughter was welcomed to Yemen also and other family members.

When the Americans invaded in 2003, many Iraqis left for Yemen. Many Iraqis lived in Yemen for many years and were welcomed warmly.

A picture of a Yemeni child smiling at the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action (KSRelief) was admired by many social media users. The photographer, Ibrahim Abdullah al-Shalhoub, captured the moment which was seen as a break away from the regular painful images coming out of Yemen.

Shalhoub told Al Arabiya that he was part of a KSRelief delegation who were visiting one of their relief projects at camps for displaced Yemenis in Maarib.

“While the delegation was providing food for Yemenis at the camps, I was walking around and taking pictures as usual, but I was focused on finding genuine facial expressions, and I found it in the faces of children,” Shalhoub said.

Shalhoub added that this young boy in particular, whose picture circulated across social media, was displaced from Sanaa and ended up with his family in the Maarib camps, living with minimal safety.

Shalhoub, who has been working as a photographer since 2006, has been working at the KSRelief since 2015.

The spokesman of the coalition backing the legitimate Yemeni national army said that “the targeting that took place today in the governorate of Saada, is a legitimate military action to target elements that planned and carried out attacks targeting civilians yesterday evening in Jizan that killed and wounded civilians.”

He added that this operation was “implemented in accordance with international humanitarian law and customary rules.”

Colonel al-Maliki said the coalition will take all necessary actions against the criminal, terrorist acts of pro-Iranian Houthi militias, such as the recruitment and placement of children on battle fronts and "using them as tools to cover for their terrorist acts."

He stressed that the Houthi leaders and terrorist elements responsible for firing ballistic missiles and targeting civilians will be targeted as part of the coalition efforts to prevent terrorist elements from harming regional and international security.
