Yanis Varoufakis on why the idea that Southern Europe is more corrupt than Northern Europe is a myth

DiEM25 co-founder Yanis Varoufakis explains why the idea that Southern Europe is more corrupt than the richer, Northern part of the continent is a myth.

@Foinikas What is your opinion on Yanis Varoufakis?

Yanis Varoufakis on Jeff Bezos and Amazon

Ok, now I am officially a fan of this guy.

I love this guy. The amount of corruption at the higher levels in Europe is off the scale.

Yanis is a superb mind. On top of that a good human being. He doesn't shy from speaking the truth.

I discovered him yesterday and I have become a fan of him. I love how blunt he is, no bullshit, straight to the point.

@_NOBODY_ You won't like my opinion of him.

Varoufakis is the kind of rich guy who likes to think of himself as a communist.

Back when SYRIZA won the elections in 2014,they had been shouting big statements like "We'll tear all the memorandums" or "We'll be playing the music and they (the EU) will be dancing" or "Go back madame Merkel!". All these were quotes by Tsipras.

However, when they became government, they were faced with the tough Europeans and quickly chewed all their words.

The implementation of capital controls frustrated and angered Greeks. I remember this scene. Waiting in line to withdraw 60 Euros per day from the ATM.

Most politicians of course didn't have a problem. They were loaded with cash and deposits in foreign banks.

The SYRIZA government soon declared a referendum concerning the austerity measures and the bailout in Greece.

The people overwhelmingly voted for "NO".

"Three days following the no vote of the referendum, the Athens government "formally asked for a three-year bailout from the eurozone's rescue fund [on 8 July 2015] and pledged to start implementing some economic-policy overhauls" beginning by mid-July 2015. European finance leaders scheduled a "crisis summit" on 12 July to consider the request. The Greek request includes a "drastic turnaround" for Prime Minister Tsipras regarding "pension cuts, tax increases and other austerity measures."[3] The total amount of loans requested in the Greek proposal is 53.5 billion euros (US$59 billion). The Greek parliament approved the Prime Minister's request on Friday, 10 July, and the completed package was forwarded to the eurogroup in advance of Sunday's meeting.[67] On Monday, 13 July, the democratically elected government representing the Greek nation in the Eurozone signed a bailout package including 'worse' terms than the ones, already, publicly rejected via referendum.[68]"

Eventually,Varoufakis left SYRIZA and founded his own party "Mera25".

In the "debate" of the political leaders (which is actually a series of questions by reporters live on TV) 3 weeks ago, Varoufakis' replies ranged from vague to Utopian to idiotic.

Varoufakis wanted to create a digital currency parallel to the Euro,if he got to power, with which the government would be paying people online and they would be paying for public services etc.

He said that drilling for oil and gas would not be the best solution. He argued that oil and gas drilling would only bring profit in 15 years and it might not even bring profit, depending on the prices at that time period and that drilling for oil and gas only brings tensions in the region and is an ecologic disaster for the environment. He said "floating wind turbines" are the future and we should invest in that.

He was then reminded that for an ecologist,he is the politician in Greece with the highest energy footprint.

He and his wife own 2 cars (apart from the MP one),5 motorcycles and 1 small boat.

A few months ago,he went to a neighborhood of Athens which is the "stronghold" of anarchists and all kinds of radical leftists. He went at a bar or restaurant with his wife and without his police escort. Probably considering himself a leftist revolutionary or something. Well,a large group of anarchists appeared, took him out and beat him up.

He denied that they were "leftists" and kept saying they were "bouncers" and "people of the night". However, the anarchists were arrested and videos of him getting beaten up by them were found on their cell-phones. They didn't deny it.

His plan for the Army was to abolish conscription, saying "only in this way we can increase the readiness of the Armed Forces".

This is sad to see. To me, he seemed more like a rhine capitalist or a social democrat but there's no way in hell he actually believes himself to be a Marxist or a communist  . Is his new party much different from his previous one?

By the way, his criticism of Europe's energy situation is completely valid.

Yanis Varoufakis exposes Europe's energy scam

Power companies have hiked the price of electricity, making a tough winter even worse. And this time, it’s not just the poorest who are affected. The middle class is also feeling the squeeze. How much of this is due to how our politicians have set up Europe’s energy market, and how much to corporate greed? What other factors are at play? And how can we get out of this mess? Yanis Varoufakis exposes Europe's energy scam and explains how we can overcome it.

One question:

Orban, from Hungary, is a communist who lives well, he is a fascist, what adjective do you use in his case, I ask out of curiosity.

It's just insignificant.

In the elections 3 weeks ago he scored 8th

He was passed by a newcomer party and another former member of the SYRIZA government.

I've seen a video of him being interviewed by a leftist on Youtube and using the words "comrade" and mentioning Marx.

I know you might consider him impressing,if you listen to him talk about economics. But he's just a rich guy who likes to think of himself as a communist. Meanwhile, money in foreign banks, studied and taught abroad.

The more poor the most corrupt state.

Rich enough states doesnt need to steal more, and that's the only reason because corruption barely exist in some countries.
