Beijing - China's capital Beijing will begin construction this year of an airport that is likely to replace Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States as the world's busiest, local media said on Sunday.

The online edition of Caijing magazine put the cost at 30.2 billion yuan ($4.80bn). It did not say how it would be funded.

With nine runways, the new airport will handle more than 130 million passengers and 5.5 million tonnes of cargo annually, China Radio International said.

The airport, yet to be named, will cover an area of 2 680 hectares, the online edition of Beijing Youth Daily said, quoting an unidentified airline executive.

Located in Daxing, 46km south of Tiananmen Square, Beijing's political centre, construction is due to be completed in October 2017. (in 5 years!)

Beijing's two existing airports have reached their maximum handling capacities.

Indeed now the west is suffering from their roads highways and other things eroding.

This just validates the growing clout, power and economy of the Incredible China....

Outstanding China, well done and Congratulations. :china:

The second capital airport has long been discussed and remains an unfinished war between the State Counsel and Beijing municipality.

The former (especially the PM) has an funny idea to build the airport somewhere out of Beijing (like TJ) and of course people in Beijing don't like it through and through. I call it a tie.

They are contrarian indicators. Worry when there are no China naysayers.

The opposite also holds true for hype, hype, hype, shining, incredible and $35 tablets.
