apparently wrong..first Theoretical Virus was created by John von Neumann and credit of original creation of a virus on computer goes to Veith Risak.what Farooq Alvi Brothers created is world's first boot sector virus..change the heading of the thread..

VIrus can be anything the can interrupt with the normal comuter process. Morover, there are many theories about viruses and where they were made first. Anyways if this is true then congo to the pakistanis.

No-they were students of Karchi university or NED i don't remember,but this was first type of virus which was made to infact MS-DOS in a greater way,and it was so strong that even if you have created partition in memory--


Hafiz Usman and Syed Imran Ali invented the first Pakistani made anti-virus. Known as IVK it is an antivirus, recovery program, with data security and data protection.

The first IBM PC virus in the wild was a boot sector virus dubbed (c)Brain,created in 1986 by the Farooq Alvi Brothers in Lahore, Pakistan, reportedly to deter piracy of the software they had written.

Brain lacks code for dealing with hard disk partitioning, and avoids infecting hard disks by checking the most significant bit of the BIOS drive number being accessed. Brain does not infect the disk if the bit is clear, unlike other viruses at the time, which paid no attention to disk partitioning and consequentially destroyed data stored on hard disks by treating them in the same way as floppy disks. Brain often went undetected, partially due to this deliberate non-destructiveness, especially when the user paid little to no attention to the slow speed of floppy disk access.

The virus came complete with the brothers' address and three phone numbers, and a message that told the user that their machine was infected and to call them for inoculation:

This program was originally used to track a heart monitoring program for the IBM PC, and pirates were distributing illicit copies of the disks. This tracking program was supposed to stop and track illegal copies of the disk. Unfortunately, the program also sometimes used the last 5k on an Apple floppy, making additional saves to the disk by other programs impossible

When the brothers began to receive a large number of phone calls from people in United States, United Kingdom and elsewhere, demanding that they disinfect their machines, they were stunned and tried to explain to the outraged callers that their motivation had not been malicious. Their phone lines were over loaded. The brothers with another brother Shahid Farooq Alvi are still in business in Pakistan as Brain NET Internet service providers with a company called Brain Telecommunication Limited.

actually what we call "Virus" is a vast family of various kind of softwares that can perform "SELF REPLICATION"(copying itself) in layman's language.but it was started as Self Replicating Program(which is quite innovative idea,even now) which was used for Scientific experiment.some grad student named this software as "Virus" and thats where the name came.but today,even Scripting(even HTML sometimes) is called as Virus(which has no connection with Self Replicating Program) by people..

Soviet Union ignored his work, but Americans did not, today USA is far ahead of Russia in stealth aircraft technology.
