Will President Trump be good or bad for Pakistan?

Is it really matter who be an American presedent the policy of USA change for Pakistan?
We were jumping when obama got presidency and what we got?

Those that were jumping were mostly burger elites. Yes, we got nothing, but problems. This time around we will get more problems, but we have done our homework.

He will do the REAL GOOD that we Pakistanis were not able to do in decades....
He will most probably be teaching us the lesson of a life time!

He is man of extreme so either he would be really great for us or a disaster let see where it goes

Will President Trump be good or bad for Pakistan?
Views range from 'nobody knows' to 'expect muscle-flexing'.
DAWN.COMUPDATED 11 minutes ago
Not one to mince words, in 2012, an angry Trump had tweeted: "When will Pakistan apologise to us for providing safe sanctuary to Osama Bin Laden for 6 years?! Some 'ally'."

The candidate also seems to have a soft spot for India. Just last month, he attended an elaborate charity event hosted by Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC) and promised that India and the US would be “best friends” if he were president.

So, what would a Trump presidency mean for Pakistan?

Here's what some experts and commentators think.

Space for hawks?
It will depend on how foreign policy experts shape his regional agenda. If he gives space to hawks, it is possible Pakistan may face repercussions over its association with militant groups. On the flipside, he has not spoken about Pakistan that much so there is a chance his Middle East agenda takes up most of his policy space and we end up getting ignored.

No clear plan for Pakistan
Nobody knows how Trump will approach the complexity of the issues that come with America's Pakistan policy. There is Afghanistan, there is the stability of a nuclear-armed country, there are regional complexities with India, China and Iran vested in some way or the other. For a man with a simple mind, there is no telling how he will balance all these out to draw a path forward for himself on Pakistan.

Republicans as friends?
Traditionally Republicans have been closer to Pakistan, especially the establishment; but Trump isn’t your traditional Republican. I think Trump’s presidency has greater significance domestically in the US. [It is symptomatic of] the shift towards politics of hate and fear in the western world. What it means for Pakistan, who knows.

More of the same for Pakistan
A Trump presidency will certainly be disconcerting because of its potential unpredictability - but Pakistani policy makers will face the same pro-India slant, and the same surplus of expectations from the Pakistani military that have been the staple of US policy since 1992. A Trump presidency will not change the fundamentals of the dysfunctional Pakistan-US relationship.

Muscle flexing ahead?
We have no idea how a Trump presidency would affect Pakistan, because he has not really talked about policy during this election. We aren't really sure who his team is going to be. Reports suggest Newt Gingrich is his top pick for Secretary of State. Gingrich did bring up Pakistan on stage at the June Republican Convention. He paraphrased and decontextualised a PEW study to say that 16 million Pakistanis support ISIS. He thought that was an important thing to mention. I guess that's a precursor to the kind of muscle flexing we might see if Gingrich becomes Secretary of State.

Hoping for peace
"I hope he [Donald Trump] will focus keenly to bring peace and stability around the world and demonstrate deliberate leadership in resolving the conflicts in the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent. We must trust and work together to crush terrorism and eliminate extremism from a position of strength. United States should not quit from Afghanistan; it's combat troop draw-down should be effect-related and not time-related."

Gift to jihadists
"On a serious note: Trump's victory will be an enormous gift to a failing jihadist movement, that will have now have a renewed rallying cry. If jihadi ideology has a source of sustenance, it is the image of the US as the evil anti-Muslim crusader. They will milk Trump's win dry."

True, but the hostility towards Pakistan will increase manifold. They will try sanctions and other means to press Pakistan for various reasons. We should keep that in mind.

Don't forget, Trump is someone who has gone on record to say that he desires to denuclearize Pakistan with the help of India. That is something.

Obama and Hillary have been saying the same but not used exact words.

As for unilateral US sanctions etc, that has been expected and only a matter of time. That's ok, Pakistan will weather those.

I am trying to run this across here, but instead of looking at it objectively here in PDF, I end up being trolled.
Pakistanis needs to take a step back, and reevaluate how they see support of proxies, which endangers US interests.

Please do your two dollar tricks somewhere else, we aren't interested to listen to you whine about Pakistan. Pakistan doesn't need to take a step back, in fact we enjoy watching your country burn. What's the causality rate in Afghanistan? Pakistan saw a 70% decrease in terrorism related incidences in 2015. This has trended down further by 35% in 2016:) Just a few days ago Chinese trucks have taken their goods to Gwadar. Pakistan is prospering while your backward state is dying. I can't wait when American decides to pack its bag and stop funding your rental government.

Its 2016 not 2002 . Pakistan has moved past the US option . At this point of time US is kind of irrelevant to us . We are going an entirely different route of Strategic Partnership with China , Russia and central Asia.

If Endangering US interests means keeping our own interests intact than am all for it. There is nothing Trump can do about it . Pakistan has gotten away with bombing american bases and soldiers in the past and they will in future too .

US interests might be dear to you because they run your country but they certainly aren't to us . Congress is on record saying Pakistan has made them look stupid for 30 years . ;)

Despite a frosty relationship our trade volume with US is around $ 6 billion with $2 billion deficit on the US side .

Bhartio pr Hansi aa rhi hai.So they now need america to help them against Pakistan.

America and Pakistan had always been brothers in crime and the relation Pak America are so complex that it is hard for normal humans like us to understand.

US policies to safeguard only US interest either by friendship or aggression. Their same policy will be applied to Pakistan or others.
Other 'hot issues' will subsidised after election heat. Remember while our present leadership stated in election:
  • Zardari ko ulta latkain gay, Pakistan k paisay wapis lain gay.
  • Load shedding 6 mahinay main khatam karain gay.
Anything fulfilled?

What was US interest here? US's main object was here to conquer Afghanistan ( which has never defeated by any super power in the History) and be come as a Hero of the world and control China Russia Pakistan and Iran from here because Afghanistan is the hub station of Middle Asian countries. Now you (afghan govt) and India both are support USA. understand?
Afghanistan is nothing bust just a rugged country however the strategic location meters, Americans were there for number of reasons including dealing with china as well as russia beside that The Caspian Sea region has potentially the world's largest oil reserves, likely making Central Asia the next Middle East. The problem is piping it out. Afghanistan occupies a strategic position between the Caspian and the markets of the Indian subcontinent and east Asia. with this hope back in 1996 american as well as unocal welcomed Taliban Govt later due to issues with them they funded the anti Taliban alliance i.e (Northern alliance)...
