As China flexed its most advanced stealth fighter jets fitted with home-grown engines at the nation’s biggest air show, a Chinese commander responded to an American challenge with an invitation to the US military to meet the PLA “in the sky” .

The comments on Wednesday by deputy air force commander Wang Wei of the People’s Liberation Army came after US Air Force Secretary
Frank Kendall said in August that China’s military modernisation programmes had been faster than expected, and there was a need for the US to stay ahead with more leading technologies that “scare China”.

Responding to the comment during the Zhuhai Airshow on Wednesday, Wang said “recently a counterpart of mine who is from a major country claims that he wants to scare China”.

“The Chinese navy is capable and confident to ensure national security and defend integrity, as well as make a contribution to world peace,” he said.

“I can only say, if they are not scared [by China’s capabilities], let us meet in the sky.”

The Zhuhai Airshow, officially known as the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, is held every second year but was postponed in 2020 for almost a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chinese military and aerospace firms have had a stronger presence at the show, with strict quarantine rules limiting attendance from overseas.

A key theme this year is China’s effort to replace foreign technologies with domestic creations, key to the nation’s self-sufficiency drive amid an intensifying strategic rivalry with the US.

A J-20 fighter jet powered by a domestic engine made its debut at the air show this year, PLA Air Force spokesman Shen Jinke confirmed on Tuesday.

China has been working to address an enduring bottleneck creating a lack of quality engines. The capabilities of the J-20, like all Chinese aircraft, have been limited by a lack of durable and high-performance jet engines.

The PLA has not officially announced the engine model used. The South China Morning Post has previously reported it to be the WS-10C, a modified version of the WS-10 engine replacing Russian AL-31F engines.
But a military insider said the WS-10C was a stopgap choice for the J-20, and that the fighter jet would better fulfil its potential with the more powerful WS-15.

J-20 deputy chief designer Wang Haitao said on Wednesday that China expected to speed up the upgrade for the J-20 and had been working to scale up production.

The Y-20 strategic transport plane is also in the process of having its foreign engine replaced. Its chief designer Tang Changhong said the PLA had also paired domestic engines with the Y-20 and conducted test flights.

Tang said the new Chinese engines consumed less fuel, flew for longer and could carry heavier cargo.

I don't know or am limited from PLAAF ops, but from some former colleagues (PAF) who flew against them in exercises, they said they have much to learn. This was feedback not too long ago. Apparently their maintenance side was good, but flying ops fairly limited. They fly by rigid rules, not by mature carefree handling.

And please before any of y'all jump on-board, this is feedback from PAF pilots that don't represent the official comments.

We are well over a $ 100 TRILLION system and in the next 10-15 years, we'll be around or over $ 200 Trillion. The debt's always been there, some years it goes higher and some years we try to manage it. Nothing the US can't manage. Now that the US is out of Afg. I believe around a trillion per year will be spent on defense and getting advance equipment.
and whom will buy your 200bn$ worthless tbills ?

China trims holdings of US Treasuries for 4th straight month in June \

It's called "taking profit". They bought a lot of US bills back in Obama's time for a great price. Now that the US economy is booming, they are selling at high and making $$. Healthy economic market activity.

PLAAF are ordered not to show the best in any foreign delegates or even foreign exercise...

China military is always based on deceptive to confused enemy about our real strength when real war started. That's how we give US a surprises in Korea war.

Yawn

There are more up in the sleeves trick we never show to outsider.. Have ever a Pakistanis being invited into the cockpit of fifth gen J-20? No... Not a single foreigner yet.
I wouldn't know and I don't care.

The rise of China is a good thing for world peace. If there was no China or Russia a lot of more countries would be destroyed by the USA and its dogs(NATO).

An aerial combat between USAF and PLAAF will be highly interesting for observers. It has the potential to throw very interesting outcome.

Most of the past engagements between the US and USSR/Russian platforms were highly one-sided towards the US, except in India - pakistan case .. the fact that bulk of the chinese platforms are still legacy russian copies, the probability of the chinese getting their arse wiped is very very high .. a reverse of that at this point is very unlikely ..

come on China, please engage the USAF and show the world your ultratech capabilities .. we are all in for the show off

It does not matter. The US only fought against defenseless nations except in the world wars. China is a massive country with very large and powerful military and industries. They may be behind the US militarily but the US has to come thousands of miles to fight them. They will get a beating of their life, I bet you.
This is a stupid argument, and I say that kindly.

In air combat, it is essentially mano-a-mano, not massed formations against formations of troops and tanks. You have a lead going after a target, and the lead's wingman protects him. What this mean is that it will fall on the pilot's knowledge and skills of his aircraft to win. All of Chinese and American industrial capacities are meaningless in that moment between the air combatants. The PLAAF will be defeated.

If China wants so desperately to meet the US in the sky, all it has to do is to send its Air Force cross the US border with evil intent.
I am pretty sure the US will respond.
Personally, I will not be holding my breath for this to happen.

how will usa bounce back with this debt sir ?
Sweden had a debt similar to that of the US (compared to GDP) in the early 1990s. Now the debt is one of the lower in Europe.
A rule was introduced that said that over time, the budget always have to have a surplus. You can occasionally have deficit, but not on average.
This rule has been kept for 30 years.

To get the US off the deficit may be more problematic.

They are of course in the situation that they can print money to pay for the deficit, since the world economy is dollar based.
It does not matter. The US only fought against defenseless nations except in the world wars. China is a massive country with very large and powerful military and industries. They may be behind the US militarily but the US has to come thousands of miles to fight them. They will get a beating of their life, I bet you.

But no oil resources, and the US can blockade their oil.
