Russia is eying the multi-billion dollar deal for P75-I project of India under which six conventional submarines are to be built with Air Independent Propulsion systems.

With deals over USD 12 billion in kitty this month, including leasing of a second nuclear submarine, Russia hopes to bag more projects as it termed itself as not just a business partner but an “ally” who stood by India in its “darkest hours”. Russia is eying the multi-billion dollar deal for P75-I project of India under which six conventional submarines are to be built with Air Independent Propulsion systems and the next aircraft carrier project besides the deal to jointly develop a fifth generation fighter aircraft.

Asserting that there is no limit to what India and Russia can do together, a top Russian defense official claimed the US and Europeans can never give what Moscow can and has offered. “We are ready not just to deliver most serious weapons, most important weapons but continue to give our state of art technology,” Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, an umbrella organisation of 700 hi-tech civilian and military firms, told PTI.

“Russia is a friend, an ally and not a business partner. Russia stood by India during its darkest hours. Next year will mark 70 years of our relationship. It is a long time,” he said and noted that Russia had stood by India when it faced sanctions after the 1998 nuclear tests.

“Not so in the recent past, when India was under sanctions, we were pretty much the only partner for India. “Russia has been a partner not only in every day military supplies but also most sensitive and most important supplies including a nuclear submarine which was rented to India for you to use,” said Chemezov who is also a close aide of Russian President Vladmir Putin.

“Come to think about it, I would not imagine any other country to do that, he said. Not in the past or in the future. I cannot imagine US or Europe giving India such a strategic asset,” he said when asked about the tough competition that US and Europe are giving to Russia in the Indian defence market. Not only did Russia lease out a nuclear powered submarine, it actively helped in the building India’s first indigenous nuclear weapon carrying capable submarine INS Arihant which has been inducted into the Indian Navy.

Chemezov said “it is a very special year for us and will be marked by major projects and things are starting already.” He, however, admitted that from a third person’s point of view, there might have been some decline in some areas of defense between the two countries. US and some European countries have managed to strike mega deals with India which the Russians were also competing for.

“It is not a linear sort of relationship. We feel that ties are definitely developing and increasing,” he said. Giving example of the deadly BrahMos missile, Chemezov said that not only has Russia delivered high value equipment but has also collaborated with India on developing strategic assets.

He pointed out that in late 1990s, Russia had transferred technology for Su30 MKI, India’s frontline fighter aircraft. “At that point of time, it was our most modern equipment, our most modern plane. When we had actually signed that agreement, Russia did not even equip its army with this.

“This was basically our newest highest technology. That shows and speaks about our relationship with India,” he said. He also gave the example of T90 tanks, saying they are “not in anyway less but in many way, modern than any advanced US or European technologies”. He said there is scope for cooperation in the P75-I and the aircraft carrier project.

“There is definitely scope for both of those. There is pretty much no limit to what we could do together. Anything that is within our realm of things and possibilities, means it is the same with India,” he said.

Chemezov said that Russia has already submitted its proposals for both projects.

What? Pakistan already chose Russia and China as its ally. Who are Russians to say They are Ally of India. Morons

It is not Pakistan which is choosing Russia rather it is Russia which is choosing Pakistan while being indifferent to India.

Like joint first ever military exercise with enemy of India?

Seems like 18 Soilders death dont count as darkest hours according to Russian dictionary.

Russians are now beginning to realize what they did in over confidence.

When was the last time Putin spent 4 days in foreign country without a major deal. (That Helicopter deal is signed so many times I forgot the count, so dont quote me that).

Its USSR that stood with us in darkest hours, Russia is too clever for that. They are only interested in ripping us in some defence deal.

The rub is Russia has announced that it would carry the military exercises with Pakistan again in 2017 as it closed $12 billion in defense deals with India.

It shows that India is totally at the mercy of Russia and Russia does not care about Indian sensitivities.

Actually its Chinese who are having the forward policy in the region . Russian Federation and China are allies at UNSC.

Pakistan, North Korea, Iran , Syria, Cambodia, Eritrea, Yemen are regions of Chinese and Russian Federation influence.

I am waiting exactly for that, lets see if that announcement is backed up by action, I dont feel they will pursue that.

$12 billion in defense deals with India.

Is there any other deal beside Helicopter one signed with Russia in BRICS? I was offline for few days, dont have much update on it and really cant find any concrete article or source which give more information about it.

Oh they do! They do care a lot and there was a reason the same Putin who spent less than 24 hours in India in previous visit want to spend 4 days here to give a personal touch.

pakistan's haalat would soon be of Dhobi ka kutta
while that wishful thinking has "isolated us" by driving russia to hold exercises with us ...not to mention a dozen other countries too....despite your billions...so who's the real loser if you cant even stop them or for that matter anyone away from pakistan? what does that make you??

Russian Federation national interest is not what Indian National interest is.

Indians are normally more close with United States.

In diplomatic terms that is dangerous.

If a country like Russia is putting their decades of friendship on the line for contracts,

then the converse is very dangerous. i.e IF you don't give us these contracts then you'd be sabotaging our decades of friendship and backing.

India will have to walk a tight rope, the west will give technology that they have desired and viciously compete for those dollars.
Russians will not like to be shown the door by choosing another product ( in other words telling them that there product isn't good enough ).

Money talks, nothing else matters. Don't be emotional like pakistanis in international relations. If India wants allies, then it has t build economic muscles. nothing else.

Not really , When its about national interest then money doesnt matters for Indian Nation.

We Indians are not like Chinese to spread money to stop saying the truth.

Panama offshore leaks are clearly showing what type of policy has been adopted by the Chinese.

No dude. You guys are being fooled by China into believing that they can turn things around for you guys and in the process you are snubbing your most important ally, the USA. Just take a look at Africa to learn how China is expert in exploiting locals for their own gain, look at their close ally N Korea. You are just pawns in the big games and we all know what happens to pawns. Don't flatter yourself by believing something else.

When you talk chess, remember that India isn't hurting china any time soon.
You too are being played by US.
We were played by US ( what you call ally status ) for several decades for US's own goals.

as the proverb goes the grass is always greener on the other side.

Don't flatter yourself by believing something else
thats my advice to you folk as well. because you are relying too damn much on your billions and we all have seen how much your billions matter ....but people believe what they want to..so carry on
