Ways to stabilize Kyrgyzstan are being discussed at an informal meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Kyrgyzstan

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev thanked Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan for hosting the meeting and noted that it was the second informal summit of the organization in 2010. “Hopefully, we will meet again this year if you send us an invitation,” Medvedev said. “I will do that gladly,” Sargsyan replied.

The summit is informal but it is still of practical value, Medvedev said. “The format has proven its efficiency. The decisions made in Borovoye [Kazakhstan in December 2008] had very important results,” he said.

The Friday meeting has two items on the agenda, “namely the CSTO efforts to assist stabilization in Kyrgyzstan and the formation of an efficient crisis management system,” Medvedev said.

It is also necessary to discuss the day of the next CSTO summit, which will take place in Moscow, and to consider certain procedures, Medvedev said.

“No formal documents will be approved on Friday,” he remarked.

Medvedev noted that Uzbek President Islam Karimov did not attend the informal summit and said he hoped that Karimov would be informed about summit results.

This is the fourth informal summit of the CSTO. Armenia is playing host to the informal summit of the organization for the first time ever. A number of bilateral meetings will take place on the summit sidelines.
