not a bad deal for Kuwait,KSA,Germany, and Japan.

if they didn't pay for the world sheriff to drive Saddam back the economic costs would of been many times more.

Saudi Arabia (in a backdoor meeting) requested assistance of US military forces to tackle Iraq after invasion of Kuwait.

Back then, Iraq was so powerful that it scared the shit out of neighboring countries. And Saudi leadership felt that an Islamic coalition force would not be enough to stop Saddam Hussein.

Wait is this "new Math"?

"Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states covered $36 billion."

"Germany and Japan covered $16 billion."

36 + 16 = 61??? Um.....52? what happened to the other 9B?
to boost it up so indians can have someone to blame for 61 b? I dont know maybe someone thought 52 didnt look nice besides who is bothered with maths? As long as there is someone to blame, right?

just one question why would Japan and Germany pay USA for attack on saddams iraq under operation desert storm :azn:

Kuwait had reasons as Iraq raided and annexed it! What was the reason for the other trigger happy states? No idea why no one questions Germany and Japan? UN took part as well! But no no indian will dare say 1 word about any of the other parties which got all trigger happy!

If you have slight knowledge of Geo-Politics that you would know that USA have colonized Germany & Japan since WW2 .

Sad part was; it took a whole coalition to defeat a developing country still healing from the wounds inflicted during Iran-Iraq war and the Kuwait war. If there was no invasion on Iraq - there would've been no 9/11, no ISIS, no terrorism, no arab spring, only stability and peace....

The sad part is why some chose not to question Iraq's belligerence and invasion of its neighbors in the first place? How does that equate to "stability and peace"? Oh the irony!

Article says:
The U.S. Department of Defense has estimated the cost of the Gulf War at $61 billion.
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states covered $36 billion.
Germany and Japan covered $16 billion
And that is all that is says

Incidentally:
36+16= 52
Leaving $9 billion of cost for the US taxpayer to pick up

Germany and Japan > duh, their constitution precluded them from sending their military so they picked up part of the tab
Kuwait > Duh, occupied
Saudi Arabia and Gulf State > Duh, most in danger of being next.

Smoke plumes from a few of the Kuwaiti Oil Fires on April 7, 1991

The Kuwaiti oil fires were not just limited to burning oil wells, one of which is seen here in the background, but burning "oil lakes", seen in the foreground, also contributed to the smoke plumes, particularly the sootiest/blackest of them

So, who payed for that to put out and clean up?
