US & Pakistan Dispute and Tensions over Haqqani group

'All options open' on Pakistan: US

Updated at: 2238 PST, Sunday, September 25, 2011
WASHINGTON: The United States will have to consider all options "including defending our troops" in confronting Pakistani support for militant networks fighting U.S. soldiers in the region, a senator said on Sunday.

"We need to put Pakistan on notice," Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican member of the Armed Services Committee said on "Fox News Sunday."

U.S. military leaders said last week the Pakistani army's powerful ISI spy agency supported the Haqqani militant group that Washington blames for an attack on its embassy and other targets in Kabul, Afghanistan. Pakistan denied the allegations.

Graham said Pakistan has to choose between helping the Haqqani network and helping the United States fight al Qaeda in Afghanistan and border regions of Pakistan.

"The idea of Pakistan's intelligence agencies supporting terrorism as a national strategy needs to come to an end," Graham said.

"It destabilizes Afghanistan. They're killing American soldiers. If they continue to embrace terrorism as part of their national strategy we're going to have to put all options on the table, including defending our troops."

Graham said Washington should reconsider assistance to Pakistan and noted last week's approval by a Senate committee of $1 billion to Pakistan for counterterrorism operations. The panel made that and any economic aid conditional on Islamabad cooperating with Washington against militant groups, including the Haqqanis.

The senator did not elaborate on what U.S. military action he would advocate if the situation did not change.

"I am saying that the sovereign nation of Pakistan is engaging in hostile acts against the United States and our ally Afghanistan," he said. (Reuters)

RAWALPINDI: A Corps Commanders’ over-the-top meeting with Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in chair Sunday hashed out the latest Pak-US rift at length, brushing aside all the blames US slapped on Pakistan, Geo News reported.

The meeting, which lasted for several hours, zoomed in on security affairs vowing a befitting retaliation to any cross-border incursion.

The military top brass also agreed upon letting the political leadership of the country in on the decisions taken for which General Kayani will very soon hold meetings the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Corps Commanders gave all the national security issues a 360-degree reckoning.

Senator: Consider military action against Pakistan

26 September,2011

A Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee said Sunday that the US should consider military action against Pakistan if it continues to support terrorist attacks against American troops in Afghanistan.

"The sovereign nation of Pakistan is engaging in hostile acts against the United States and our ally :offtopic: Afghanistan that must cease, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told "Fox News Sunday."

He said if experts decided that the US needs to "elevate its response," he was confident there would be strong bipartisan support in Congress for such action. Graham did not call for military action but said "all options" should be considered. He said assistance to Pakistan should be reconfigured and that the US should no longer designate an amount of aid for Pakistan but have a more "transactional relationship" with the country.

"They re killing American soldiers," he said. "If they continue to embrace terrorism as a part of their national strategy, we re going to have to put all options on the table, including defending our troops."

In testimony last week to Graham s committee, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, said Pakistan s powerful military intelligence agency had backed extremists in planning and executing the assault on the US Embassy in Afghanistan and a truck bomb attack that wounded 77 American soldiers. Both occurred this month.

Mullen contended that the Haqqani insurgent network "acts as a veritable arm" of Pakistan s Inter-Services Intelligence agency as it undermined US-Pakistan relations, already tenuous because of the war in Afghanistan. Pakistan exports violence, Mullen said, and threatens any success in the 10-year-old war.

Graham said Pakistan does cooperate with the US in actions against al-Qaida. But he said the Pakistani military feels threatened by a democracy:cheesy: in Afghanistan and is betting that the Taliban will come back there.

"The best solution is for Pakistan to fight all forms of terrorism, embrace working with us so that we can deal with terrorism along their border, because it is the biggest threat to stability," he said. "

The american deep south is prime area out which the ugliest bigots have sprung up and mixing liqour with bible-bigotry is what produces people like this dirty american senator lindsey graham who is pushing for military actions against Pakistan.

Senator Graham is but one of 100 senators, and only a member of several committees. He does not get to decide policy all by himself, such is the system of checks and balances. I still do not see your point.

And how did you assume to know that I have a store where I may or may not sell liquor? I find the attempted putdown merely amusing, and indicative of your mindset, but will choose to ignore that for now.

Pakistan keep all options under table until US, with support of Bharat, stops supporting terrorist groups such as TTP, BLA, LeJ.

India will be supporting USA all the way, as long as these messages are being made.

SLAMABAD: Pakistan will not launch an offensive against Haqqani militants despite Washington ramping up the pressure after a series of attacks on US targets in Afghanistan, an official said Monday.

Pakistan’s army chief of staff gathered together his top generals in an extraordinary meeting at the weekend after a series of stinging rebukes from the Americans blaming the Haqqanis and Pakistani intelligence over attacks.

General James Mattis, commander of the US Central Command, which oversees the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, became the most senior US commander to hold talks with Pakistani generals in Islamabad since the pressure mounted.

“I don’t think the indicators are as such,” a senior Pakistani security official told AFP when asked if the army was going to launch an operation in North Waziristan, where the Haqqani leadership is allegedly based.

Instead, he said, the military needs to “consolidate gains” made against local militants who pose a security threat elsewhere in Pakistan’s tribal belt that Washington has branded an Al-Qaeda headquarter

It was infact CIA who created the haqqani network. how could pakistan support a terrorist group when the biggest threat it is facing today is terrorism. US is jst trying to blame someone for its failure in afghanistan as they have planned to withdraw their troops from afghanistan in 2014 they need someone who can be labeled as the reason for their failure.
