the most surprising in the list is Saudi Arabia. with such large coastline its navy is really small. In case of Pakistan its more than one factor small coastline limited economy and more focus on other services was a big factor along with the fact that we had a defensive strategy.

However things are certainly changing. we are probably seeing the biggest induction of navel assets in our history.
CPEC and more indigenous weapons development and focus on second strike capability is driving this factor. but still its not going to place us in top 10 this is a reality and we must accept it. We don't need a large navy as large navies are for countries focussing an outward force project capability which is a luxury we don't need nor can afford.

It is a common mistake to use size as the sole measurement in determining strength and capabilities of a naval power.

Especially in these years; the auxiliary capabilities, naval air arm, cooperative engagement capability (CEC), its search and rescue capability including submarine rescue and salvation ops, network centric warfare, personnel safety and platform maintenance standards, the extent of a which a navy utilizes its naval infantry and SOF units in combat at both land and sea, and as well as several other factors such as geography and maneuverability are the actual determinants of a powerful navy in addition training and technology. This list I think only implies the countries with largest combatant fleets, not even fleet total.

In no particular order- Surely Japan is not mightier than UK and France.

Japan is a coastal nation. It has 40 destroyers if this list is to be believed. For any coastal nation, sea is their lifeline. Their current strength is better than UK and France minus nukes.

Its in island plus they are enemy of world second largest navy so they need it as a must.

Japan cannot survive without strong navy

There is no shame to accept that we've a lame navy. Indians stormed Karachi in 1971 while our Navy couldn't even properly retaliate in our own nest.
That's called step mothers approach. Deprive a child, and then when that child either doesn't perform or do something odd, blame the child.
In essense, truly saying from my heart, navy should command armed forces, not army. As India has more part in sea. And that part is more vulnerable.

I'm so glad nobody's listening to you - nobody in Pakistan, that is.

We are 50% into 2020 , and I suppose for many people now the wait is for the arrival of goodies

  • Submarines (2)
  • Type 054 (F22P+) 1 or Two Ships

:pop: Can the Chinese deliver these in 2020 ? :china:

The Submarines and Frigate would improve our regional standing but no real news on the Submarines lately

If the program was to be completed in 2024-2025 , one should expect at least 2 Submarines out of 8 to be in Pakistani hands would be nice

We need atleast 4 Destroyers

Un Ranked Turkish Navy

  • 33 Amphibious Assault Ships (Only 5 have ability to carry helicopters)
  • 0 Destroyers
  • 16 Frigates
  • 10 Corvettes
  • 34 Patrol vessels (Missile boats)
  • 11 Anti-mines
  • 12 Attack Submarines.

#10 Taiwan
  • 4 Destroyers
  • 22 Frigates
  • 12 Patrol vessels
  • 8 Anti-mines
  • 2 Attack Submarines.
TN has 16 patrol boats. All are Tuzla class.

9 Kılıç classes are actually 600 tons missile corvettes which are designed by Lürssen Werft and Gölcük for Aegean's unique warfare conditions. All have important firepower and cooparative engagement capability. If you examine Turkey's missile boats, you'll see that all of them are equivalent to light frigates most of other navies in terms of countermeasure and armaments, just as the Israeli naval boats.

This is related to the conditions in the Aegean Sea. Both Greece and Turkey, operates one of the world's leading submarine fleet. Aegean also features a complex labyrinth surrounded by thousands of islands in a geographically congested area. Therefore, ASW capability stands out as vital importance in this region; along with these missile corvettes with proper firepower against surface assets but high speed and maneuverability bcs of threat under the sea...

Turkey is not an ocean country, its navy is also enhanced by these closed/semi-closed seas condition. However, as a more combined and bigger example its could be a mistakes when evaluating the Chinese and Russian navies in like this. In parallel with their economic size during the 1990-2000 period, both navies attached importance to corvette missile boats, and many ships produced for this purpose are not an patrol ship, but a hit&run assault ship within +100 miles engagement capability.

I am not sure that this kind of inventory comparison will give correct results. Putting aside the largest naval countries (like the USN), this ranking has to differ according to many possible scenarios. The difference of the naval doctrines of the countries is the most important issue in here: while some navies give importance to their power projection capabilities, some other navies prioritize the security of territorial waters. While some navies have an attack-oriented scheme with heavy submarine fleets, some navies attach importance to areal defense with frigates and other ASW assets and almost no submarine operation.

In geopolitical terms, some navies show a completely import-oriented development, while others have completely navionic independence goals. This also explains the countries' satisfaction within a certain alliance structure or their independent policy ideals.

If we are measuring the superiority of one navy to another, we cannot exclude the defense's naval air power and ground support assets from this assessment. On the other hand, the primary concern in a war situation is the survival of maritime trade. But in this assessment, no importance was attached to submarines in particular.

Go search for ships of JMSDF, it is more powerful than combine french and royal navy in terms of ships capabilities and will give a tough competition to chinese navy.

As a matter of fact, Japan lost WWII. They are heavily restricted if they are to sell weapon.
