NEW DELHI: India will on Monday sign a commercial contract with Iran to build and run a strategic port on Iran's southern coast, the government said on Friday, to help it gain a foothold in Iran and win access to central Asia and Afghanistan.

The deal under which India will develop two terminals and cargo berths at Chabahar, on the Gulf of Oman, will be signed during a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Iran beginning on Sunday.

Gopal Baglay, a foreign ministry official in charge of Iranian ties, said India would make an initial investment of more than $200 million in the port.

Chabahar is about 60 miles from Pakistan's Gwadar seaport which China is developing as part of a $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The Chinese project, coming on top of investments in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives raised disquiet in India about China's expanding reach in the region and prompted faster movement on the Iranian project.

India is blocked from land access to Afghanistan and through it to the central Asia countries because of opposition from Pakistan, which sees India's expansive diplomacy in the region as a threat.

Mr Baglay said India, Afghanistan and Iran would separately sign an agreement to set up a trade and transport corridor during PM Modi's trip that will have Chabahar as the hub.

Road and rail links are to be built so that landlocked Afghanistan can get access to the Iranian port as an alternate to the Pakistani port of Karachi.

"The trilateral agreement will be a game changer for regional connectivity especially for Afghanistan which can find an assured and reliable alternate access to India via sea," Mr Baglay said.

Clearly shows how bad gawadar is causing itching in the Indians under wears.

OK let's see, who wins the race.

You jump around as if you guys are in the game. Its between India and China. We will settle this out ourselves.
Hahaha.
Its nothing like China vs India.
Whether you like it or not but India is so much Pakistan centric.

Gawadar has become a nightmare for Indians and every other day we hear Indian foreign minister and PM crying against CPEC and gawadar.

To Reach Central Asia India would use Chabahar

China Will Use Gwadar to import it's Oil and other Goods

Between this 70 Km Area there will be Chinese Pakistani and Indian Navy Heavy Patrolling

Indian Ships will travel more to reach Arabian sea

Lol...We have an Issue not because Pakistan is there but China. Move away guys, we find you cute but not your masters.
Crying By indians on CPEC and gawadar is.very entertaining for us.
We enjoy this attitude.

The BIG Picture is :

China and India are securing their interest with an eye on the Future.

Iran will definitely safeguard its National interest and will bargain hard with India on equal terms.

But the moot question is : ARE Pakistan's policymakers Honestly Capable enough to watch country's interest over their petty corrupt practices and Chinese monopolistic commercial interests :ashamed:

During peace time, that “Heavy Pak and Chinese patrolling" won't be an issue at all.. You can't stop commercial shipping during peacetime just for fun.. And during wartime, there would be a bunch of guys known as “IN western command" , who would like to have a little chat with the PN and PLAN patrollers. Nuff said..!!

We will see how far Indians go into this misadventure. They are acting as if they are world power. NOBS. Even yanks rely on Pakistan for their sustenance inside Afghanistan.

So how far you are going to go Mr Modi with Charbahar? We control the Pakhtoon southern belt which border Iran. If you ever reach afghan border and try to enter Afghanistan, your trucks will be easy pickings for Afghan Talibans who control Pakhtoon south. You aint going to get too far you silly bugger. Indians need to stop their silly shenanigans and act their status.

If Iran is clever enough, it will stay away from this non sense and instead use CPEC for its exports to much bigger and without any doubt, the richest nation on the planet that is China.

Yanks rely on Pakistan for their sustenance in Afghanistan, because they have a pretty hostile relationship with Iran. So, the only route available to Americans is through Pakistan. For India, the case is opposite. We are making our way to central Asia through Iran because Pakistani route isn't available to us. Iran is our only choice..

You can run into circles inside Iran, we care less, question is, if you are well versed with your geography, after Iran, comes Afghanistan, on your way to Central Asia, and not only just Afghansitan but southern Pakhtoon belt, which we control. So how far you are going to go?

The better question to ask is - Why do you wanna stop India from trading with Afghanistan and Central Asian states..? What's in it for you? Why play the spoilsport?

In this lies your answer.

But honestly speaking, a weak and subdued India playing second fiddle to Pakistan is in our national interest. There cannot to two dons of an area.

And if we really really want to screw it up, there is always the Sunni card we can play inside sistan Provence of Iran where Charbahar lies.

The best option for India is to resolve the kashmir issue, stop sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan, and accept to play second fiddle to Pakistan in this region and beyond, we will give you access to Afghanistan and CIS region.

And this my friend, is where I stop debating with you any further. Coz now this conversation has started leaving the domain of logic and healthy debate, and started to enter the realm of jingoism and petty thuggery. :coffee:
