The 2016 United States presidential election was watched closely by many across the globe – and for good reason.

The victor would lead the world's largest economic and military power, whose shifting alliances or trade priorities could affect the security and economic prosperity of other nations.

The United States is the most influential country, according to more than 12,000 informed elites from four different regions who filled out surveys for the 2017 Best Countries rankings. The rankings, formed in partnership with global marketing communications company Y&R’s brand strategy firm, BAV Consulting, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, aim to gauge global perceptions of the world’s biggest economies in terms of specific attributes associated with countries.

The Most Influential Countries scored highest in a compilation of five country attributes: a leader, connected to the rest of the world, has an influential culture, politically influential and strong international alliances. Guatemala and Latvia were perceived to be the least influential.

India will be in top 10 in not too distant future. That I am sure of.
I hope so..
Even Indian state elections are now discussed globally..Let's not talk about satellite neighbors..

Sri Lanka isn't even supposed to be in the list considering we don't have any super power ambitions

Influence doesn't necessarily mean bullying people.

It could also mean that your diplomats could negotiate for a better deal with other countries such that their policies get influenced by your political moves.

And your diplomats are good at their work. They have managed to create competition for geo-strategic friendship between us and China.

Don't underestimate your country, mate.

I hope so..
Even Indian state elections are now discussed globally..Let's not talk about satellite neighbors..

I hope we could negotiate like the French could; without the use of military force.

That's good enough for us.

More than 21,000 business leaders, informed elites, and general citizens were surveyed with the goal of discovering how nations are perceived on a global scale.

The US was perceived as the most powerful, followed closely by Russia, with the UK coming in fourth. Other countries included Pakistan, Turkey, and Israel.

    1. United States — Nearly 75% of respondents said they lost "some respect" for US leadership after the presidential election, but the country is still ranked the most powerful. Its economic, political, cultural, and artistic influence shapes the world and a mammoth defence budget of around $600 (£494) billion and its leading economy put it at the top.

I think most prominent countries is the better title. The author seems oblivion to the concept of power in International relations.

India 16th, wtf? Behind Switzerland, Turkey, Saudia Arabia, UAE, S.Korea, Israel and Canada! (India's economy and military is easily larger than all of them).

This is utter nonsense:

For much of 2016, India, the world's largest democracy, was also home to the world's fastest-growing major economy. However, its recent cash crisis has been a blow to its economy, causing the country to lose 11 billionaires and 86% of its circulated cash.

What is written doesn't even make sense, "business insider", lol!

India is still the fastest growing economy in the world and is projected to be for the next 4 years.

A stupid ranking system and if it puts India that far down the list it has no credibility.

I think we should revisit the evaluation criteria and might get the answer to many questions asked here by many including me :)
