ndia on Friday ruled out joint maritime patrolling with the United States in waters of the Asia-Pacific region, days after a top American military commander hoped it would happen in the near future. Defence minister Manohar Parrikar said India is in for joint military exercises with other countries, including the US, but not for joint patrolling.

“As of now, India has never participated in joint patrolling. But we do participate in joint exercises. So the question of joint patrolling at this stage does not arise,” he told reporters at South Block.

He was asked about the remarks made by the US’ Pacific Command chief, Admiral Harry B. Harris, Jr. According to news agency reports, the American commander had recently pitched for a quadrilateral security dialogue among India, Japan, Australia and the US even as he hoped joint patrolling in the Asia-Pacific region would happen in the future. Adm. Harris had hoped that in a “not too distant future” American and Indian Navy vessels steaming together would become “a common and welcome sight” throughout Indo-Asia-Pacific waters.

“I don’t respond to what the US admiral has said. Our viewpoint will come to you if we at all consider any such thing from our side. It may be his calibrated thinking,” Mr Parrikar said. The Indian government is conscious of not drawing itself into a tussle between the US and China.
Wise Indians. Unlike some warmongers we have here in PDF.

The United States is like Scar from the Lion King movie, it uses its gang of hyenas for its own ambitions. And just like the Lion King movie, Scar betrays his hyenas and also blames them for fault, this in turn turns the hyenas on Scar. We see in history USA (Scar) uses his gang of hyenas to invade other countries, some of the former hyenas also turn into enemies of the USA after seeing the true face of the USA.

Sounds a bit childish, but it sure makes a good point.

Perfect training opportunity. I guess Chinese navy is thrilled. :)

US has been courting Japan, Australia, India, Vietnam, Philippines and other countries to jointly patrol SCS, to show the solidarity of "the international community", so far there is no taker. Everyone is watching on the sideline, and Vietnam and Philippines are cheering US to do the dirty job for them. It must be a heartbreaking moment for Harry Harris to face the evil empire like a lone hero.:cry::cry:

Why does China think it 'owns' the SCS almost up to the coasts of Brunei, Indonesia, Phillippines and Malaysia?

It's like the UK claiming just off the Swedish or Norwegion coast (where their oil is).
Or the U.K. claiming all the North Sea up to the coast of the Netherlands - the spark the English deliberately lit to ignite the Anglo-Dutch wars with the intent of robbing Dutch ships at a minimum and ultimately reducing the Netherlands from being Europe's leading maritime and commercial power to a mere shadow of such.

Sounds a bit childish, but it sure makes a good point.

Well it is a children's movie that I watched as a kid, still the message is still relevant. In the end, Scar's empire collapses and his hyenas rip him to shreds.

More to do with India's insistence on remaining non-aligned and its wariness to join any "alliance" with the US when our strategic relationship is still in its nascent stage.
Besides, the juice is not worth the squeeze given China is a major trading partner and Russia an old ally...it makes no strategic sense just yet.
Nevertheless, things can change very quickly given China's insistence on interfering in India's internal matters on Kashmir and of course the oft mentioned string of pearls endeavor...

But in the meantime, if it helps you sleep better at night, please feel free to attribute this news to some supposed "fear" of China's improving relations with Sri Lanka.

Lol I love how Chinese get lippy on some defence forum. When in reality even United States Marine Corps and United States Navy has better, well equipped and more fighter jets than entire PLAAF+PLAN+PLA combined. Don't even get me started on USAF. :agree:

In other words, we know what we are talking about ;-)

A more apt example might be Germany claiming the North Sea up to the British coast, citing that England was settled by the Angeln and Saxons stemming from what is now Schleswig-Holstein, in the post-Roman period, and that England ultimately is really just a brake away province of Germany. (By the way, the Celts originate from Southern Germany (Berchtesgaden)/Austria (Hallstett), so England is all Germans anyway)

I never knew that. Interesting. So English folk truly are Germanic, through and through.

The island of Taiwan (formerly known as "Formosa") was mainly inhabited by Taiwanese aborigines until the Dutch and Spanish settlement during the Age of Discovery in the 17th century, when Han Chinese began immigrating to the island. More than 8,000 years ago, Austronesians first settled on Taiwan. The languages of their descendants, who are known as the Taiwanese aborigines nowadays, belong to the Austronesian language family.

Taiwanese aborigines is the term commonly applied to the indigenous peoples of Taiwan, who number more than 530,000 and constitute nearly 2.3% of the island's population. Recent research suggests their ancestors may have been living on Taiwan for approximately 8,000 years before a major Han immigration began in the 17th century. Taiwanese aborigines are Austronesian peoples, with linguistic and genetic ties to other Austronesian ethnic groups, which includes those of the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Madagascar and Oceania. The issue of an ethnic identity unconnected to the Asian mainland has become one thread in the discourse regarding the political status of Taiwan.

But that don't mean we're all NAZIs!~:woot:
