"The first MiG-29UPG, modernized hands of Indian professionals already soared into the sky. His flight took place in February of this year, "- said S.Korotkov. It is reported that the first batch of MiG-29 fighters, which are upgrading in India, consists of four machines. S.Korotkov recalled that, according to the signed contract, the first six MiG-29 were modernized in Russia, and the rest will be upgraded in India.

"We supply technology kits for upgrading, modernization itself is carried out on the territory of India", - said S.Korotkov. According to him, experts Corporation "MiG" provided with the necessary advice and technical assistance to Indian partners.

Earlier it was reported that the MiG-29 equipped with a modern complex avionics, unified with the same set of naval MiG-29K fighters to the Indian Navy. According to experts, the proposed modernization of the Indian Air Force MiG-29 variant of the MiG-29UPG is optimal in terms of "cost-effectiveness". On the upgraded aircraft is established, in particular, new avionics, radar modern family "Beetle" development "Fazotron-NIIR".

Modernization significantly expands the range of problems solved MiG-29. Currently, they are intended primarily to intercept aerial targets and air superiority. The upgraded aircraft, along with the expansion of opportunities for combating air targets, acquire the ability to attack ground (surface) movable and fixed targets with precision weapons at any time and any weather conditions.

The contract provides for repairs and tuning of aircraft in order to extend the service life of up to 3500 flight hours and service life of 40 years. Development of RAC "MiG", a proven track record of modernization in a number of countries, can significantly extend the life of the MiG-29.

Contract to upgrade 62 MiG-29 fighters of the Indian Air Force, including eight combat-capable MiG-29UB was signed in March 2008. Its value, according to unofficial data, about $ 1 billion. Any specs about this radar ??

Wow, 40 years? How comparable will it be to the MiG-29K?

The fighters on show by the IN and IAF in a good 10-15 years is scarily lethal. Top end of Rafale, Su-50, AMCA, Su-30MKI, Tejas Mk2 and possibly the F35 for the INS Vishal supported by the likes of upgraded Mirage-2000s, MiG-29Ks and MiG-29UPG. Except from the Americans, who could even match that?

The Russians? Doubt it. The Chinese? Quantity is on their side but quality? If India did enforce that airforce, it'd be far more balanced. Higher quality light combat aircraft, higher quality medium combat aircraft and higher quality stealth jets too.

Awesome!

It will be another milestone in the IAFs modernization program

Any specs about this radar ??

MiG-29UPGs, sporting the new Zhuk-M2E radar made by Phazotron-NIIR, the OLS-UEM infrared search-and-track system (IRST) similar to the Indian Navy MiG-29Ks, thermal / TV / laser imaging made by Moscow-based NPK SPP, multi-functional full-colour LCDs in the cockpit, increased fuel capacity and an in-flight refuelling system. Moreover the aircraft feature the more powerful RD-33 series 3 turbo-jet engines.

New role
The new radar will increase the MiG-pilot’s radar view up till 200 nautical miles, giving fighter pilots – the ability to track 60 targets simultaneously and adds terrain-following mode and ground-target acquisition. In other words: the MiG-jock turns from a sole fighter pilot to an asset that can be used for close air support and ground attack, meaning the Fulcrum crews need additional training for their new role.

Non-Russian
Different from the Russian Air Force MiG-29SMTs the Indian most-modern Fulcrums are set to have non-Russian equipment, like a sat-nav system from French Sagem, a helmet-mounted targeting system from French Thales, an Indian indigenous electronic warfare suite and Israeli-made electronic counter measures. Added Indian systems come from HAL and Bharat Dynamics.

Full-throttle
Despite severe delays in the program Indian specialists present at the Sokol plant in Nizhny Novgorod in Russia continue to learn from the Russian counterparts. The new Indian multi-role fighter was nicely captured on camera by Sergey Lysenko. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is in full-throttle to do the majority of the Fulcrum-upgrades. HAL will bring no less than 63 of the Air Force jets up to MiG-29UPG standard and produce 120 RD-33 series 3 engines under license of the RAC.

Front-line
The front-line MiG-29 fighter units will share a total of 54 MiG-29UPG amongst them, plus eight MiG-29UUPG two-seaters. The Fulcrums serve on four locations: with 8 Wing (47 and 223 Squadrons) at Adampur in the Punjab region facing Pakistan and China-controlled Tibet, with 33 Wing’s 28 Squadron at Jamnagar towards the Pakistani Karachi area and the Indian Ocean, and with 28 Squadron’s detachment at Leh in the Himalayas/Kashmir region in the far north. The seven remaining MiG-29UPGs will be held as attrition replacement or when the other aircraft will go in maintenance.

Gliders 7 cars MiG-29 of backlog, the contract for which the unknown customer is not signed yet. Apparently, this is the last "back-alley" (in other words, started creating more time in Russian) MiG-29 PC-2 (the same gliders above the 3rd and fourth pics)

Upgraded+MiG-29UPG-1.JPG

This upgrade has turned the MiGs into a multirole fighter jet...!!!
Heavily improved ground attack capability plus improved range without sacrificing payload thanks to the "Hump back" fuel tank in its spine......add to that the Topsight- I HMS and R-73 makes this deadly dogfighter even more dangerous...!!
This fighter can carry out air-to-air operations and ground attack without even needing another ground attack fighter :D
More than the Mirages this upgrade has in a way taken the pressure from the retiring MiG-27s...!!
The Baaz just got it's claws even more sharper.!! :-) ;)
