people of swat wants sharia
they are asking for it since 1969 when they joined pakistan

taliban exploited their sentiments

its an exelent step taken by govt
some idiots call this step taken under duress from taliban which is grossely wrong

now when sharia is in place talibs will automatically lose any support which prior to it they had

exactly.. rit now the problem comin is (according to sufi) that gov is not willin to accept sufi's cleriks while he says that gov qazis are not fit for the job.

brother what is sufi muhammad
sorry to say he is a fitnah...he took 10000 of his followers from dir, malakand and bajor when US invaded afghanistan... and left them with forces of Mullah daadullah.... when Northern Allience came this sufi ran away with taliban and left these poor innocent simple ppl who had lathies and few have old guns on mercy of Northern Allience... many of them died in containers and hundreds still abused and tortured by dostam and his men

I hope as one of my Journalist friend from peshawer said few days ago

پتہ نہیں اللہ اس صوفی محمد کو کب جنت میں بلائے گا۔۔۔۔سالہ ہمارے لئے جہنم بنا رہا ہے۔۔۔

i recommend you and all to see beautiful documentry on bbc urdu web site DIR say Balakh Tak

he is definately a fitnah. he doesnt see anything wrong with talibans and always criticises the gov. taliban attacked FC but according to sufi that wasnt the violation of the treaty but when FC retaliated that was a violation. same goes for buner. fazlullah faked a withdrawl and there are tapes available as a proof but again that wasnt a violation but when army retaliated that was. i dont know y dont these ppl feel ashamed when they look at their beard. these ppl shouldnt be allowed to even think about keepin a beard forget about keepin it..
now talibans are violating peace deal in swat by kidnappin police and closing colleges. but when army will retaliate, again according to sufi it will GoP which would have violated the peace deal....

yar what beards

the most horrible crimes were comitted in name of religon throughout these so called custodian of islam

from SHAHADATE HUSSAIN , to Stoneing of KABBA from siege of MAKKAH by forrunners of AL QAIDA in 1979 to fatwa of Mullah naizi authorizeing of rape of hazara women in Hazarajat Afghanistan....in every incident name of islam was used for selfish intrests on these leaders

I some time think mullah is single largest threat to UMMAh
in iran it rapes in name of islam...drains out every drop of blood from Mujahideen khalq members to give it to soldiers fighting with iraq..

some type of mullah do same job in afghanistan..

What can one expect from the terrorists, by their actions, they’ve shown quite often that they care two hoots for written agreements. It’s high time to scrap the surrender deal and take back our country.

Enough already!

Locals see ‘ruthless operation’ as only Swat solution

* Desperate residents of Mingora wait for help as Taliban rob govt, private property

Staff Report

PESHAWAR: As armed Taliban continue robbing government departments and private property at random and without fear, residents of Swat believe that a ‘ruthless’ military operation is the only solution to the problem.

“The best approach in this situation is a complete and ruthless military operation,” residents of Mingora city told Daily Times on Thursday.

Swat district is drifting towards complete anarchy as Taliban are ransacking government and private property and abducting police personnel. The local population does not rule out a fresh military operation against armed groups.

Law-enforcement agencies are vacating police stations as conditions worsen. :disagree:

“For the last few days, over a dozen policemen have been kidnapped, some from police stations and others from their residences,” said a police official in Mingora, asking not to be named.

Cops vacated the Kalam police station and the Taliban occupied the building, local residents said by phone. “We are worried about our security,” they added.

At the Population Welfare Department in Saidu Sharif, Taliban took away all office furniture and other items, including medicine. It was the second attack on the office in as many days, an official of the department told Daily Times.

“There is absolutely no writ of the state,” he added. “We are at the mercy of these armed groups who have every authority to do anything they want.”

The local population’s anxiety grew with veteran nationalist Pakhtun leader Afzal Khan Lala’s departure from Swat generating rumours that the last symbol of resistance to the Taliban had also ‘surrendered’.

But the man himself denied that he left Swat because of security threats, adding he was going for a medical check-up.

Growing feeling of insecurity among local population and robbing and kidnapping incidents prompted a flag march by the army troops in Mingora city on Thursday and they searched vehicles and people, witnesses said.

Finding the soldiers on the streets brought some hope for the extremely worried residents of Mingora. “Watching troops on the streets gives us a new hope,” said one resident.

All eyes were set on the sky as jet fighters and reconnaissance planes hovered over the city on Thursday. However, these planes disappeared minutes later.

Taliban’s ‘media reforms’

Editorial
Friday, 01 May, 2009

SEVERAL reporters have been killed in Pakistan’s conflict zones in recent years while others have faced torture, harassment and intimidation. The truth, it seems, can be hard to stomach for the Taliban and security personnel alike. Reports of ‘collateral damage’ involving civilian deaths often do not go down well with the security apparatus. The Taliban, for their part, brook no dissent whatsoever. Since they consider their cause to be faultless and their actions above reproach, any ‘negative’ reporting is deemed to be worthy of brutal retaliatory action. What else is to be expected of people who do not even pretend that they believe in freedom of expression? They do not subscribe to democratic values or basic human rights. These are people, after all, who are convinced that any Pakistani who is opposed to the Taliban is an infidel.

Be that as it may, the seriousness of Tuesday’s warning issued by the Swat Taliban cannot be downplayed. Never has the threat of extreme violence been more brazen, with militants sending pamphlets outlining their future options to media houses and pasting similar posters in Swat. Any media personnel engaged in “anti-Taliban” and “pro-western” agendas will face dire consequences, according to the militants. After bombing schools, barbershops and CD stores — not to mention flogging and killing civilians — the Taliban have now announced their intention to “reform” the media and make it “mend its ways”. This is what a Taliban spokesman had to say: “It is the duty of the media to give space and time to statements which have a positive impact on society.” Why the mainstream media is unable to find any positives in the activities of the Taliban is something the militants simply cannot understand, so blind are they to their barbarity and so alive to the righteousness of their ‘mission’.

So what is to be done to safeguard the lives of reporters and other journalists working in the north? The government’s writ is suspect, to say the least, but it must make every effort to provide security to journalists wherever possible. It is also imperative that media houses do not send reporters and cameramen into war zones without adequate protection and training. A case in point is that of the three Al Jazeera journalists who either came under attack by militants or were caught in the crossfire in Buner on Wednesday. Accounts are sketchy but it appears they were caught unprepared as they ventured into the theatre of war. No one should have to pay the ultimate price for a story.

Taliban is basically is reaction against the excesses of PA and successive Pakistani government. They have provided a rallying point for the oppressed masses of FATA and Swat whose lands have been subjected to relentless assault by our armed forces in order to score with the Americans.

ISLAMABAD: The government feels that outlawed Tehrik Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi (TNSM) chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad and the Taliban are under immense pressure for the first time because of the ongoing military operation in Buner and Dir, which would not be eased till the armed militants were largely taken care of.

“The first and foremost demand of Sufi Mohammad and the Taliban to halt the operation would not be accepted. Rather, the pressure on the Taliban would be sustained,” an official told The News.

He said there was no possibility of stopping the current drive against the armed militants unless they laid down their arms and fulfilled their written commitment to restore peace in the Malakand Division.

Another official said the pressure that the operation had exerted on the TNSM chief and the Taliban was evident from their steps and they were now not as high flying as they used to be. He said the process of dialogue being conducted by the NWFP government with Sufi Mohammad and the Taliban representatives would continue in the light of the peace agreement but the military operation would not be terminated.

The official said since the NWFP government was fully on board in starting the operation, it had not been too much ìsubmissiveî to the Taliban demands now. He said ironically whenever the Taliban were given ìconcessionsî by reducing the intensity of the operation or reduction in deployment of paramilitary troops or the Pakistan Army personnel, they regrouped to continue their illegal activities, rather than doing their bit to revive peace in the troubled valley.

This time, he said, the official resolve was to break the armed wing of the Taliban and take or destroy their arms and weapons. He said the fate of the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation (NAR) depended on the attitude of the Taliban. If they put aside their arms and restored peace, there was no threat to the NAR, he added.

The official said the strong operation had brought the Taliban to their senses and they now realised that more use of force was in store if they did not mend their ways. He said the Taliban had got the message that the operation was intended to convey.

He said the government was satisfied over the fact that every political or religious force of Pakistan was totally disappointed with the Taliban who, after the enforcement of the NAR, transgressed in Buner and Shangla, making fun of the writ of the government.

The official said it was encouraging that every political and religious force worth the name was totally alienated from the Taliban. This, he said, has resulted in a rare consensus in Pakistan for the powerful operation against the Taliban in Dir and Buner. On its part, the official said, the NWFP government would continue to persuade the TNSM chief and the Taliban to come to terms as it was ready to implement the NAR in letter and spirit.

He said the NWFP government would name the Qazis as provided for in the NAR. They would be duly appointed judicial officers, who would possess degrees from the International Islamic University, Islamabad, or any other institution imparting training in Uloom-e-Shariah and recognised as such by the government.

The official said the TNSM or the Taliban had no room in the NAR to recommend any names for Qazis. He said the Darul Qaza, which would work in the Malakand Division, would be a bench of the Peshawar High Court and the Darul Darul Qaza a bench of the Supreme Court under the NAR.

He said regardless of the ìinformal consentî of the TNSM, the provincial government would go ahead with appointing Qazis to fulfill its part of the deal. He said Sufi Mohammadís description of the Supreme Court as un-Islamic was a clear violation of the NAR to which the TNSM and the Taliban had agreed before its promulgation.

The government believes that it would be able to clear the mess in Buner and Dir in a couple of weeks. The Pakistan Army, which is carrying out the operation, not only enjoys massive domestic support for it but the United States has also appreciated the drive and wants the military to continue it.

Earlier, Washington was staunchly opposed to the peace deal and promulgation of the NAR in the Malakand Division and also pressed for the use of force to crush the militancy.
Taliban under pressure as military operation continues

I think the qazi should also have a science degree.

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan has nominated Justice Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik and Justice Ziauddin Khattak to serve at Darul Qaza in the Malakand division.

The much-awaited announcement was made by NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain at a press conference on Saturday night.

‘The setting up of Darul Qaza is a landmark decision in the history of Malakand and in accordance with the aspiration of the people of the region,’ he said.

A notification to that effect has been issued by the High Court. Both the judges initially appointed under the Provisional Constitution Order on Dec 13, 2007, have been serving as additional judges of the high court. Last year their services were extended for a year.

‘After we have fulfilled the demand of (TNSM chief) Maulana Sufi Mohammad for making the Darul Qaza functional, he should now fulfil his commitment of impressing upon armed groups to lay down their arms,’ Mr Hussain said.

He warned the militants against indulging in violence after this decision, adding that since the signing of the Swat peace agreement on Feb 16 about 190 violations had been made by the militants.

The minister said the two qazis (judges) had been appointed in accordance with the stipulations made by Sufi Mohammad as well as the Nizam-i-Adl Regulation that their physical appearance and conduct should be in accordance with Sharia.

Section 2(1) (c ) of the regulation defines Darul Qaza as ‘appellate or revisional court’ constituted by the NWFP governor under clause (4) of Article 198 of the Constitution.

Article 198(4) provides that each of the high courts may have benches at such other places as the governor may determine on the advice of the cabinet and in consultation with the chief justice of the high court.

The governor had approved the establishment of a circuit bench of the high court in Malakand division, based in Swat, on April 5, 2007.

However, the circuit bench could not be made functional for want of judges and other officials. At present the Peshawar High Court has circuit benches in Abbottabad and Dera Ismail Khan.

According to legal experts, Darul Qaza was a circuit bench of the high court, but its nomenclature had been changed in the Nizam-i-Adl Regulation. Mr Hussain said the regulation empowered only the government to nominate qazis for Darul Qaza.

He said that two qazis would be posted in the jurisdiction of every police station. Two qazis will work at the tehsil level. There are 47 police stations and 37 tehsils in the division.

Now Swat taliban should be disarmed according to the agreement.

TNSM declares Darul Qaza set up unilateral
Updated at: 1135 PST, Sunday, May 03, 2009
SWAT: Tahrik-e-Nifaz Shariat Muhammadi (TNSM) has declared the setting up of Darul Qaza unilateral.

Sources said that the TNSM ‘shoora’ headed by Maulana Sufi Muhammad in a meeting at its central office located at Aman Dara Batkhel here deliberated on the setting up of Darul Qaza, postings of Qazis in shriat courts and other important matters and declared the Darul Qaza set up unilateral.

TNSM spokesman, Amir Izzat Khan said that the announcement relating to the setting up of Darul Qaza and Qazis postings has nothing to do with the TNSM. He said that they were waiting for the second round of talks, but the government unilaterally announced the setting up of Darul Qaza. He said that the maintenance of peace was the exclusive responsibility of the government and added, “We are not satisfied with the setting up of Darul Qaza.”

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military on Sunday accused the Taliban of ‘gross violation’ of the Swat peace accord after several acts of violence over the weekend, AP reports.

The army blamed an attack on the power grid in the main Swat city of Mingora on the militants. It also said militants had partially blown up a bridge in the Khwaza Khela area of Swat.

Clashes between security forces and militants left at least one soldier dead and three soldiers and four militants wounded, it added.

Also Sunday, two decapitated bodies were found near Khwaza Khela, police officer Umer Rahim Khan said. They have not been identified.

A girls high school was blown up by militants in Kabal Tehsil while four trucks were set ablaze by the Taliban in Khwaza Khela, private TV channels added.

A Taliban spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday.
