Russia is desperate to sell 18 Su-30 fighters for just $10 each, and is looking for anyone who can foot the bill. Belarus which was initially stated to buy it, is too poor to even afford 10 million per plane, so Russia is throwing open the doors to other buyers. If PAF opts for adding another $5 million dollars more, it can get the N-011M Bars radar as well. With Putin's Pakistan visit just around the corner this looks like an interesting proposition to just let go. Even with BARS radar the fighter will only cost $15 million, which is still cheaper than the JF-17 which costs somewhere between $15 - $20 million. The Missiles for the fighter can readily be obtained from Ukraine which manufactures the Air-Air missiles, and also performs overhaul and everything. Even without BARS, it can carry 8000Kgs of weapons and also Ukrainian R-27 and R-77 BVR missiles. So...?

Su-30 fighters from Russia for sale| Defense | RIA Novosti
Eighteen Su-30K fighter jets which were delivered by Russia to India in the 1990s...

The first 10 jets have been recently delivered to an aircraft plant in Baranovichi for a deep overhaul to the Su-30KN version, Kommersant cited a source close to Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport. The remaining eight are expected to arrive in November.

The source said Belarus was interested in buying the Su-30K because the country cannot afford new aircraft and the deal could be very cheap.

According to Russian experts, the current price for an outdated Su-30K after depreciation is about $10 million. An overhaul would require an additional $5 mln per plane.

"To buy a heavy fighter for $15 mln is a real bargain," Kommersant quoted Ruslan Pukhov, the head of the Russian Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, as saying.

Despite the certain loss from such a deal, Irkut may be forced to sell the Su-30Ks to Belarus..

Russia to Sell Off 18 Su-30 Fighters | Defense | RIA Novosti
"The 18 Su-30s previously used by India and then returned, are in an aviation repair plant in Belarus and are on sale to potential buyers," said Alexander Fomin, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation. He added that the aircraft could be modernized before being sold on.

The Su-30MKI is India's lead fighter aircraft, and around 140 have been produced under license by HAL Aeronautics in India. The Indian Air Force is expected to buy a total of around 280 during the next decade.

Development of the Su-30 began in the 1980s for the Soviet Armed Forces, based on the Su-27UB conversion trainer.

The first batch of 18 Su-30s delivered to India were Su-30MK and Su-30K standard, and were built to a lower specification than the later Su-30MKI. This meant that they did not have thrust-vectoring engine nozzles or canard foreplanes, enabling extra maneuverability.

Their avionics systems were also built to a lower specification than the later Su-30MKIs built by HAL, which included a high level of Israeli and French-built systems.

The keywords here is "outdated" and "India". I cannot even begin to imagine the political $hitstorm that will ensue in Pakistan should they go for "Indian scraps".

Besides if "Syria and Sudan - are out of the picture for political reasons.", then i'm pretty sure Pakistan is as well.

They are useless to the PAF as well..
Since they provide little symmetrical threat simulation over whatever the PAF already has.
They may be better off sold to Chinese for spares or such.. they operate a much more common MKK fleet.

May be India should buy them back post retrofit :)

18 for the price of 3

They are useless to the IAF considering the current circumstances and means.
Even if they can carry napalm weapons they are worthy . Those planes would be better than Su27 for sure . They would be stronger than LCA/Mirage/Mig29?/Jaguar . We can base them in Tajikistan also .

if russian can upgrade them with TVC and nuke carrying capability then Pakistan could consider it as a low cost deterrence..

dont expect too much . You would be given the planes with kill switches with spy systems . You would be getting Dooper Su30 DCP . Downgraded commercial for Pakistan . Forget about Mki .

We do not want them in the first place , desperate troller  Check who started the thread !

By the way , what happened to your protest to Russia to stop supplying RD 93 engines ?

And I forgot how can one get the God's gift to aviation SU 30 MKI guaranteed ( money back of course ) to take down even the Raptor ! :D

No idiot in this day and age sells a BVR fighter for 10 million dollars, let alone a HEAVY Multirole fighter with 8 tonne payload carrying capacity, 12 hardpoints which can be increased to 18 with the use of Racks, and range of over 3000km. With this fighter, the entire Arabian sea can be patrolled easily, very useful in blockade scenarios. With an additional $5 million deep overhaul which includes a new radar, it turns into Su-30KN standard, which is not outdated in the least. Infact even the standard $10 million is not outdated considering the fact that the subcontinent is filled with F-7s, MiG-21s, Mirage-3 and 5s, MiG-27s, Jaguars etc etc. This sort of a deal is a dream come true for countries which can't afford heavy long range multirole fighters.

Why do not you think countries are buying it then ? I thought Bangladesh would be interested ...

Check the date. The news was only out 6 days back, when Belarus said it couldn't afford these. Don't expect this deal to stay open for long. It will start selling like hot cakes once everyone hears this and start negotiations to get it.

I am sure they will be ... I have a feeling that Dhaka will try to pick the deal as soon as possible ...

It maybe worth 10 million though you are forgetting that to accommodate this, we need to develop the whole infrastructure plus the spares which will increase the cost manifolds but not at the cost of JF-17.
