LAHORE: The pilot of a Shaheen Air International plane, which escaped a major disaster during an emergency landing in Lahore earlier this month, was under the influence of alcohol, a medical report has revealed.

The report also revealed that the pilot was suffering from lack of sleep at the time of the emergency landing on November 4.

The Boeing 737 with 121 people on board skidded off the runway soon after landing, about 1,000 feet short from the end into a grassy patch 70 feet west of the runway at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP).

All passengers and crew on board the NL-142 Karachi to Lahore flight remained unhurt and were evacuated via emergency escape chute, but the aircraft's landing gear, windows and right wing were damaged in the landing.

According to a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), investigation into the accident has not yet been completed, however, medical reports have confirmed that the pilot was tired and had consumed alcohol before the flight.

The pilot had consumed more than the permitted amount of blood alcohol and had not rested the required hours before the flight, said the CAA spokesman.

During a recent meeting in Karachi presided by Director-General CAA Amjad Ali Toor, the aviation authority has advised all airlines to ensure their pilots are in optimal condition before flights.

He said that the DG CAA took a serious view of this incident and directed the representatives of the airlines to take all possible measures to ensure passengers' safety on a priority basis.

The CAA spokesman said that the DG CAA also emphasised that all operators need to be more vigilant to avoid such misconduct among their cockpit and cabin crew to avoid such incidents in the future.

Is alcohol easily available in pakistan ??
As far as I know, it was only available to non muslims?

my suggestion is to, take all his degrees, send him to jail for lifetime,. show his videos on the social media.. let the others learn from him.. MAKE HIM AN EXAMPLE.....
why cant we check all pilots.. it should be a standard procedure... they also go through security check like rest of us.
Just punishing one guy is not going to help change attitude. Having a process in place will.
Many pilots are also overworked and do not take rest. Thats as deadly as being drunk.

What he is suggesting is prevention to be specific. You severely punish one guy, make an example out of him, and after some time people will forget. Many other pilots will probably not even know such a thing ever happened.

Regulations, if strictly implemented, serve as constant reminders and such checks avoid the scenario from even happening.

The pilot must have been impressed by the real character " James Hunt" of the movie Rush

This fact I am unaware of it. Actually I want to ask earlier also.
@Basel @ifrit @batmannow brother your thought

Sadly many muslims in Pakistan drink alcohal although its not allowed as per Sharia and local law, but it does not mean its easily available to everyone.

There are designated "wine shops" you can go and get your fix at. It's supposed to be for non-muslims but it's not enforced...i've seen men with long beards getting drunk hahahaa. Plus alcohol is available in hotels and you can get it delivered too.

Thanks brother, actually during India-pakistan series match in Chandigarh, lot of pakistani fans came to india, and for the first time I meet few. Two pakistani young guys I meet, they were so delighted to come to chandigarh, and after talking to them they gave few views for India

1. First they were very amazed to see Indians girls driving scooty, scooter, and even bike in common.
2. They loves drinking Beer, so much and actually they were enjoying drinking them.
3. They love Indian movies too much.
4. They like Indian Bikes, at that time -- Hero Honda Splender, and Passion.

In Pakistan females drive cars but they usually don't ride bikes on there own here, that is why some Pakistanis have got surprised seeing it.

There are many in youth specially who want to taste alcohol but that is not the majority (thankfully).

Indian movies are liked in Pakistan that is bitter reality.

Youth of Pakistan is in love with motorbikes but Variety is not huge here if you compare it with India, although normal 70cc bike cost around 40k but its not for fun for youth.
