in this thread i will try to talk about saudi arabia air-defense forces and how advanced they became.

1-the first system is the famous Peace Shield built by Lockhead martin and Hughes Aircraft Company (now Raytheon).

a lot of members here know the Peace Shield.

But the thing that they do not know, that the command and control centers for peace shield has become a mobile you can transport the entire system in case of attack with nuclear weapons and continue fighting after the disaster.

WOOD DALE, Illinois – AAR (NYSE: AIR) announces it has won a contract to design and build Transportable/Mobile Subsystems for Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems in support of a Raytheon C4I Systems customer.

Integrated Technologies will integrate the Transportable/Mobile Subsystems using ISO shelters built by AAR Mobility Systems in Cadillac, Mich. The mobile C4I systems, comprised of command control, communications, computers and intelligence, will provide enhanced interoperability and improve communications between joint air and ground operations. The contract, valued in excess of $17 million, was competitively awarded.

2- is the european Surface to Air Missile Operations Center (Samoc).

SAMOC® OPERATIONS CENTRE

Samoc_555x312.jpg

The Surface to Air Missile Operations Centre (SAMOC) is a comprehensive air defence management system specifically designed for joint and combined operations within a multi-service and multi-national environment.

The system, which was initially developed for the German Air Force, optimizes and increases

  • the effectiveness of a mix of sensor, effectors and air defence systems by using

  • state-of-the-art planning-,
  • multi data link handling-,
  • advanced data processing- and
  • ergonomic display technologies

As a comprehensive Command and Control Centre for Ground Based Air Defence operations, SAMOC provides an integrated Battle Management and Command and Control capability which can be employed for both local and out-of-area operation.

SAMOC – Operational Benefits

SAMOC is a key system which integrates and fuses Air Defence Command & Control systems, sensors and weapon systems in a networked environment into a single "System of Systems". During all phases of operations, preparation and operations, a high degree of technical, system and operational interoperability is established by using Tactical Data Links, automatic Message Processing (like ADatP-3) and utilizing military procedures.

This networking concept greatly increases shared situational awareness, monitoring capabilities, speed of command, weapon system effectiveness and survivability of own and coalition forces against aerial threat.

SAMOC supports the whole operational cycle from preparation including training, force generation and mission planning to mission execution using automated tools to support the operators in executing their tasks. Changes resulting from experience gained in recent operations are incorporated in the next planning, mission and training cycle.

SAMOC – Functional areas

SAMOC provides integrated Command and Control capabilities that automate and integrate the performance of the following functional areas:

  • Force Operations

Decision support to enhance planning, co-ordination and preparation of Air Defence operations supported by automated military message handling and automatic database replication mechanisms for information exchange between operation centres on various command levels.

  • Engagement Operations

Real-time fusion/correlation of information with instantaneous decision support tools, thereby reducing engagement times and optimizing engagement results of an mixed air defence environment including processing of Tactical Ballistic Missile Defence.

  • Common Services / Communications

Data distribution to multi-service, multi-national and civil agencies using standard NATO Tactical Data Links and ADatP-3.

  • Training & Simulation

Realistic interactive training and simulation capabilities for defence design evaluation, operations preparation, mission rehearsal and post-action analysis.

Saudis Order Samoc Center for Air and Missile Defense
Saudi Arabia has ordered a Samoc surface-to-air missile operations center from EADS to provide battle management command, control, communications and coordination for its Patriot-, Hawk- and Shahine (Crotale)-equipped ground-based air-defense forces.
The Samoc system is to be built and tested by EADS Defense & Communications Systems in Ulm, Germany, to be delivered to the Saudi customer in early 2009, EADS says today

German Samoc systems are containerized to be transported on trucks or by air. The Saudi configuration will be installed in a building. Photo: EADS EADS has been delivering Samoc systems to the German air force (Luftwaffe) but the version for Saudi Arabia has been "specially adapted to meet the needs of the Saudi Arabian armed forces," the company says.

Unlike the German Samocs, which are installed in container-sized deployable shelters, the Saudi system will be delivered in an office-type configuration.
The delivery comprises command, control and communications (C3) software installed on workstations. The
workstations are integrated into a building, which is housing the Saudi Air Defense Control Center (ADCC).
A Multi Data Link Processor (MDLP) from EADS will provide the link to the subordinated Air Defense Operation Centers
(ADOCs)
. These directly control the Patriot, Hawk and Shahine weapon systems.
EADS will also provide maintenance and operator training.
The Battle Management Command, Control, Computers and Intelligence (BMC4I) functionalities of Samoc enable the Saudi armed forces to efficiently use their existing air defense systems in mixed force deployment scenarios.
Samoc will support this process withreal-time and non-real-time support functionalities, before and during missions as well as in training.
The open system architecture provides for system growth to cope with future threats and developments and therefore forms the basis for further extensions to the existing structures, also outside the ground-based air
defense realm, EADS says.
Following completion of the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) in Ulm, the system is to be delivered at the end of January 2009. After successful integration and a Site Acceptance Test (SAT), it will be handed over to the user in late April 2009

3-‘Al Madhallah’ (Arabic for ‘the umbrella’).

Solutions supplied to the MoD include short-range anti-air Crotale and Shahine missiles together with counter battery radars (COBRA) systems. These form part of the air defence solutions provided by the Group in the country.

In 2007, Thales was selected to supply a system, comprising of the implementation of a national centre for electronic warfare in Riyadh, plus six regional hubs known as ‘Al Madhallah’ (Arabic for ‘the umbrella’). Mobile centres to train personnel operating missile batteries (including the Crotale, Shahine, Patriot and Hawk missiles) and electronic warfare systems were also provided, reinforcing the long-standing cooperation between Thales and the Saudi authorities.

In 2011, SOTAS vehicle systems, a family of modular components providing optimal system configurations, were supplied to the MoD.

Bro i am not anti KSA ... but all these high tech equip are ueless ... unfortunately like Pakistan KSA gov is merely a pawn of usa ... if tomorrow usa introduce some restriction on weapons export to ksa ... this all equipment will be junk due to non.availablity of spare parts ... we have learn the lesson and now focusing on indeginisation ...

You should try the same ...

Usa is unpredictable and example is iraq ... knce best friend of usa now devastated by usa ...

Our of all these equipment most omportant item to be indeginized is command and control centers ... communication systems ...

Pakistan has launched his own communication system of link 17 ...

Hope you take it as a positive comment ...

yes we have interests with them once it end we will pursue our interests.

as for command and control centers we have plan to manufacture 50% of our military system by 2030.

KSA is already following the path, it is making its own advanced electronics..

saudis should increase the number of active troops and should invest more on navy.
They are doing just that, actually they have been doing it for a while..

They are doing just that, actua;;y they have been doing it for a while..
I do not have detailed info on that so you might be right but with my experience with usa ... they will never make ksa independent and somehow ksa will try to keep ksa depandant by keeping key technologies with themselves ...

I wish ksa to progress and get out of secetarian wars ...
