Vladimir Putin inspects Russian troops as tensions rise in Crimea

President Putin watched on as military exercises took place near the border with Finland, involving both the Russian navy and army.(More footage can be see at the link at the bottom of the page)
Mr Putin and other military officers, including Russian Defence Minister Sergei Sho
igu, watched some elements of the exercise through a window of the command post at the Kirillovsky shooting range.
Earlier, Mr Shoigu said in a televised statement, made at a meeting of top military brass in Moscow, that the exercise was intended to "check the troops' readiness for action in crisis situations that threaten the nation's military security."
In later remarks carried by Russian news agencies, Mr Shoigu was reported as saying the manoeuvres involved some 150,000 troops, 880 tanks, 90 aircraft and 80 navy ships.
According to local news reports, he said the exercise was unrelated to the developments in Ukraine, but added that the exercise would be held near the border with Ukraine
