What's new

Russia Delivers 4 more MiG-29 Fighters to Indian Navy in December.

No, the reports at the time made it clear that the jet that crashed belonged to the Mig factory, and was meant for their own testing purposes. The production lot meant for the IN was different, and those haven't crashed. All 16 were handed over to the IN. As the link above suggests, it is possible that only 15 are in operational service, and the 16th is retained by the IFTU to develop tactics and understand the capabilities of the fighter fully. But all 16 are with the IN for sure, including the one at IFTU.

dude it seems the crashed mig was for India...anyway it doesn't matter...we'll get 16 though.

It'll be a nightmare if we induct Mig-29Ks for our 65k tonnes CATOBAR aircraft carrier. It should be F-18SH or Rafale (Maybe Eurofighter if its ready by then).

Who said it will be for IAC-2, as i often say (& sancho disagrees :D) that IMO IN will now not induct fighters for carrier operations only but will maintain some shore based squadrons as well (maybe at INS Hansa & others), so if mig-29k nos. increases to 80, these should be looked in that respect, IAC-2 will come only by 2025, when going for 4+ gen mig-29ks will not make sense.

NAVY will add 60 more MIG 29Ks. Just wait for 3 more years. News from a Confirmed source in NAVY[/SIZE

Why more MIG 29K required ???

IAC-2 will not come before 2020 and by that time we have better options like F35, N-PAKFA

Sir, 60 more?? Do you mean 60+45 = 105 jets??

pls, explain what would be there role as IN will only operate 2 ACs.

What's the use of Mig-29Ks as a shore based fighter? Name one advantage of Mig-29K which can't be delivered by other fighters in the arsenal.

I think IN will take the complete Maritime Strike Role on it's shoulders just like the Army is taking the CAS role on itself from the IAF (Just a Wild Guess).

Maritime strike role means only launching anti-ship missiles, even LCA can ace in that role.

Navy is very clear on 3 roles

1) Sea Denial
2) Fleet Air Defence
3) Shore Control/ Shore Patrol role taken off IAF

NA will compromise of 10 Sqns approval from Raksha Mantralay already granted.
