PM Nawaz supports Raza Rabbani appointment as Senate chairman
DAWN.COM — PUBLISHED 17 minutes ago

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while addressing political leaders on Tuesday announced the government's support for Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Raza Rabbani.

During an address at the PM house, the premier further said that the appointment of a chairman for Senate should be decided as a result of consultations with all parties.

Leaders from PPP, Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), Pakistan National party (PNP) and Pashtunkhwai Milli Awami Party (PKMP) attended the meeting.

The opposition parties unanimously nominated on Monday PPP’s Raza Rabbani as their candidate for the office of Senate chairman.

Mr Rabbani’s name was announced by ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan in the presence of representatives of all opposition parties represented in the Senate after a nearly four-hour meeting at Zardari House.

Mr Rabbani will be the joint candidate of PPP, ANP and Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A).

Asfandyar Wali, talking to reporters, had claimed that three sitting Fata senators were also part of the opposition alliance whereas one Fata senator belonged to the JUI-F.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the JUI-F chief, had attended the meeting for some time, but he was not present at the time of the announcement, indicating that the Maulana still wanted to keep his options open as he was scheduled to have a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday.

i dnt agree . anyone who is willing to compromise will compromise on everything. Just like Zardari looted billions of dollars nawaz will never do anythng against him bcoz it will be what u call good politics . neither islam nor the found of Pakistan taught us this, even in any good democracy such practices doesnt exsisit. our society have slave mentality. it can be a slave of a mulvi in mosque, or political families like sharifs and bhuttos.

ANy great leader will go against the tide. we as muslim should take Prophet Muhammad example. Arab as we were told was very bad society and one man came and changed it. he didnt adopted society and tried to make best out of it. infact he changed it .

either we expect that we like to live ;like this and stop complain or else raise their voice against it. only reason i like imran that he made decisions without consequence . if i want someone who will keep everyone happy and adopt to bad norms of our society i would have supported altaf, zarari or nawaz
