Maybe someone with access to Digital Combat Simulator can run that scenario and upload the video to clear things out. Simulation of long range engagement will be closer to reality.

From the same channel if you if search JF-17 BVR you will find a video of where this guy takes out an F-15 with SD-10s in one-on-one bvr scenario

F-5 with the right electronic upgrades from 2020s can slaughter Su-30MKI, J-11B, Su-35, F-15E, F-16CD. Mig-21 with the right pilot could slaughter a F-22 with the wrong pilot in dogfight. But some things are more technical than luck like electronic equipment and missiles for BVR.

JF-17 block 3 will absolutely dominate against Su-30MKI in BVR. No single military professional working in intelligence would doubt this for half a second. If they had to bet their lives on this, they would 100% all bet that a 2021 JF-17 block 3 would win against 2010 Su-30MKI since the JF-17 block 3 would have AESA and PL-15 and modern electronic warfare equipment and assorted sensors like new RWR and jammer pods or built in ECM and ECCM.

This is just a question of updating things. The IAF would need to spend money and energy to upgrade their things to newer levels and performance. It is how this works. However in real life, it is not a single fighter vs single fighter and Su-30MKI carries much more weapons and fuel than JF-17 no matter what weapons and radar it has.

Do you guys remember the Thai and Chinese exercises from 2014, 2016, and 2018? When China sent J-11A (1990s fighter) against Gripen C (2000s fighter) with their weapons of those generations, the J-11A lost BVR but won WVR, proving what I am saying about even F-5 upgraded with latest everything can dominate BVR against any 2000s era 4th gen fighter. The J-11A however won WVR fighting against Gripen and dominated dogfights showing that at least either PLAAF pilots are much better than RTAF pilots or the J-11A is a much better dogfighter than Gripen C which I do not believe is definitely the case.

Subsequent years, China sent J-10 and more modern J-11 versions. The Chinese sides then dominated both WVR and BVR when the same era fighters were set against each other. BVR is all about the generation and if the same generation, then how modern the equipment such as radars, weapons, ECM and ECCM. Of course pilots assumed as the same.
