KARACHI: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Tariq Fatemi, on Wednesday said Pakistan would not initiate contact with India for talks, adding that if India wants to enter a dialogue with Pakistan, they would have to take the initiative themselves,BBC Urdu reported.

“It was because of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the talks were heading in the right direction. It was India who decided to put a halt to them. Now it is up to them; if they want negotiations, they will have to take the initiative themselves. We have no contact with India,” Fatemi said in an exclusive interview with BBC Urdu.

Further, Fatemi said cross-border tension between the two neighbours arose because of state elections in India.

“It now appears that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s is using the anti-Pakistan agenda to support its candidacy. This is very unfortunate,” he said.

Addressing the Kashmir issue, Fatemi said, “Kashmir is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. It always has been and always will be.”

However, he stated that former president Pervez Musharraf had sought a change in the Kashmir policy, which he clarified that the government does not recognise.

“Musharraf went to Kashmir without consulting his corps commanders. We will choose a policy that complies with the Pakistani public’s wishes. Whatever Musharraf wanted for Kashmir, it’s in the past,” Fatemi said.

Good decision, the notion in pakistan need to be changed that having good relations with india is good for Pakistan

Zardari govt even though weak but had completely ignored india but nawaz sharif sent gifts to someone of modi standard

Good for India = Pakistan has accepted (in subtle way) that they have no other choice to bring India to table...

Its a victory for India, for, after this, Pakistan has no credible option, and certainly Pakistan can't afford a war with its economy in doldrums = Lack of CNG and daily load shedding...

Modi was right, when he said the "Enemy" is "screaming" after the heavy response by BSF as mandated by GOI..

And more...Now Indian Generals don't need any permission from GOI to do what they deem fit to retaliate (even disproportionately) against Pakistan. So much is clear on Indian flank who are endorsed as such by nationalist government of India tired of frequent Pakistan LOC violation/firings.

And PM Nawaz must stop sending sweat and gifts to Modi every now and then.
dude,
Nawaz has personal interest in India, infact many Potians even believe that Nawaz has hoarded his black money in India.
As per recent grapevine, their are rumors that some companies promoted by relatives of Noora are looking to acquire a well known sugar manufacturer in India for 200 Mil USD

And PM Nawaz must stop sending sweat and gifts to Modi every now and then.

This is really concerning, the problem is indian culture,if we send them sweats and pretend to be cool than they think we are afraid of them.Nawaz sharif i agree is soft on heart and wanted to have good relations with india but in return india govt thought as if pakistan is afraid of india.

As i have said in the past, better relations with india is good for india but bad for Pakistan.

ofcourse we should not go to war but atleast we should have no diplomatic or trade relations with india until they give up kashmir or the rest of our territory
