Pakistan signs MoU with Russian gas giant Gazprom
ISLAMABAD, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Russian gas giant Gazprom on Friday signed a memorendum of understanding with Pakistan to give help in the development of gas pipelines and exploration of oil and gas in the country.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Gazprom had also shown interest in making investment in the proposed gas pipeline running from Iran to India via Pakistan.

"We have long been making efforts to bring in Gazprom for making investment in Pakistan," Aziz told reporters after Gazprom chairman A.B. Miller signed MoU with Pakistani officials.

Aziz said Pakistan had assured Gazprom that it would give blocks to Gazprom on "fast track basis" for exploration of oil and gas.

Pakistan plans to more than treble the number of its oil and gas exploration wells to 100 and raise crude output to 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) from 64,000 bpd within five years.

Pakistan's proven oil reserves stand at 800 million barrels, while it has proven gas reserves of 45 trillion cubic feet. It produces 3.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day.
