Indians are talking to USA about Paitrot missles and C17 globemaster transport and F35 for future carrier operations.

Does not mean this will happen.

I,m sure PAF has evaluated Rafael but so has 40 other air forces.

Its like me Test driving a BMW X5

Does not mean a purchase if i cant afford it

Yes you are right. That is what we are going to change. And the main advantage that the SU 30 MKI has over the MRCA contenders is its range and payload capacity. This is more useful for us to have a vast reach in the IOR. You are missing out the Lakshwadeep, Andaman and Maldives along with Mauritius and Seychelles islands that also come under the Security cover of India. The MMRCA contest is to address the immediate gap left by the retirement of the MiG 23s and the soon to be retired MiG 27s. And I would'nt agree with the Mirage 2000 as a mission specialist. It is the only true Multi role aircraft in our inventory. The SU 30 MKI falls in our air-dominace category.

P.S. If you are talking about the Red Flag exercises then you cant afford to lose an engine nearly 20k kms from your heartland. If you are taking your JF 17 to US for the Red Flag you will also feel the pinch. In Cope India 2004 and the reports as far as I have seen is the time taken between the F 15s to take off inbetween take-offs has been the same 1 minute.and the Su 30K took 20 seconds.

I am not talking about any Red Flag i am talking about your own domestic exercises....if you get a chance try asking some one for the results and analysis.

Try to study standoff delivery capability of mirage-2000....so that atleast we both can save some useful time

Pakistan can have Quality with less quantity

replace all 150 Mirages with 36 Rafale by 2015 , same cost of maintenance.

So then the 35 rafs are going to take up the work load of 150 planes ! how do you plan that ?

JF-17 for flying hours plus back bone more quantity (replacing F-7 , A-5 )

F-16s, J-10 and Rafale as front line more quality

never the less out of 150 of mirages 30 - 40 best can be kept beyond 2015

Highly unpropable , we need 80 Rafael to take up load of 192 Mirages , provided the come to us with AESA radar package. We have enough spares parts to keep Mirages up in air

36 planes are not enough to replace 192 mirages

We need to close down 80 Rapheal planes , and 12 F16 C/D more for replacement of 192 mirages

But we also have option to get 100 J10B fighters or J11/J14 instead of Rapheal of French do not cooperate

Yar pata to kar lo is that even true or not. This anchor is not defense analyst and he might have read the same 1st april news which was actually a joke. We havn't received any credible report neither any official statement on this subject or even its possibility. Tum log 36 ko 80 me badal rahe ho but are you even sure ke 36 Rafale are coming?

The Dassault Rafale cost $90 million which is just the fly away cost, add to the spare part, technical training, TOT cost, additional armament cost, and you have a jet that cost you atleast a $100 million. The PAF cannot afford by any chance, simple as that.

I think Pakistan will go shopping after India buys one of F-18s , F-16s , Mig35, Rafale or EF200.

right now every one has eye on Indian tender, after Indian buys they can't black mail any one who will sell to Pakistan among the losing parties

Pakistan has just lost a $1.6 billion deal with France for Radars & Weapons with France for the Thunder upgrade.

This deal was for tranche 2 Thunders from 2013 upto 2018+ in other words 3-8 years away.

France pulled the plug because GOP could not provide assurances of Prompt payments. SO WE ARE LED TO believe.

What make you think GOP can now or in the same time frame sign a deal for $4-$8 billion to buy 36-70+ Rafael frm the same nation ie France.???

In Pakistan there is a saying , we can do anything never under estimate Pakistanis

France has delayed the negotiations untill it can know if its French fighters will get benefit of doubt contract or not

No offense intended but some of the theories and defense analysis of some respective members gives me extremely severe paroxysmal headaches

92 planes replacing 192.

First of all PAF operates with approximately 125-135 Mirage III/V in five Squadrons (5, 7, 8, 22, 27) and combat commander school at Sargodha. Some crashed, some really old irreparable ones broken down for parts.
All the Mirages we operate are not combat jets but

12 Mirage III R/RP (Recon Aircrafts)
02 Mirage III DP (Trainer)
07 Mirage III OD (Trainer)
02 Mirage III DE (Trainer)
04 Mirage V DPA (Trainer)
02 Mirage V DPA2 (Trainer)
Total = 12 + 17 = 29

Now it doesn't work like this that you replace 200 old jets with 100 more advanced ones, all the jets are not parked under one big shed.
There are different Squadrons strategically placed across the length and breath of a country comprising of a number of planes every Squadron operates with, again strategically assessed as per your requirement and capability of operations.
But having said that Multi-role fighter will always be required in lesser quantity as during bombing raids by ground attack air crafts some air combat jets are sent for air cover which you don't require for Multi-role fighters but 100 can still not replace 200

One more thing, it is noting but a myth that PAF prefers single engine over twin engine jets, twin engine jets are the majority of the advance fighter jets today and for a reason.

I hope I have cleared some misconceptions.

Cheers
