What is the basic structure of a tank unit or whatever it is called?

Who commands a tank? What makes up a tank unit? Are the tank transporters and other recovery vehicles part of the tank unit or of EME??? On average how many tanks make up a unit?

3 people make up the tank, Driver, Gunner and Commander. I believe logistics and recovery are part of the unit. Pakistan Army has ~49 units as below:

President's Body Guard
4 Cavalry
5 Horse
6 Lancers
7 Lancers
8 Cavalry
9 Horse
Guides Cavalry (Frontier Force)
11 Cavalry (Frontier Force)
12 Cavalry (Frontier Force)
13th Lancers
14 Lancers
15th Lancers (Baloch)
16 Horse
17 Lancers
18 Horse
19th Lancers
20 Lancers
21 Horse
22 Cavalry
23 Cavalry (Frontier Force)
24 Cavalry (Frontier Force)
25 Cavalry (Frontier Force)
26 Cavalry
27 Cavalry
28 Cavalry
29 Cavalry
30 Cavalry
31 Cavalry
32 Cavalry
33 Cavalry
34 Lancers
37 Cavalry
38 Cavalry
39 Cavalry
40 Horse (Sind)
41 Horse (Frontier Force)
42 Lancers (Punjab)
51 Lancers
52 Cavalry
53 Cavalry
54 Cavalry
55 Cavalry
56 Cavalry
57 Cavalry
58 Cavalry
21 Independent Armoured Squadron

In UK, the naming for 'collective' tanks goes like this. 4 tanks is a 'Troop', 4 Troops is a 'Squadron' and next is a 'Regiment' which is made of 3 Squadron plus Support unit. The US Army uses names as 'Platoon, Company and Brigade' with the same order.

Pakistan Army Integrating Snipers In Its Units

Pakistan army is now integrating snipers into its regular units after the successful employment of the snipers by the Pakistani Special Services Group (SSG) and few regular army units in FATA.

Pakistan Army has started a Sniper course which is specially designed to train the officers and Non commissioned officers of the army as snipers.

Post war US tanks such as M-48 as well as British Centurion had a crew of 4 (commander, gunner, loader, and driver). This was true of the Russian/ Chinese tanks such as T-54/55 and T59. Pakistan has converted a large number of T-59 to Al Zarar. Is Al Zarar also fitted with an auto-loader?

According to best of knowledge the British ORBAT for the Armoured regiment is:

3 tanks per Troop
4 troops per Squadron
2 tanks in Squadron Headquarters
Total 14 Main Battle Tanks per Squadron
Total 56 tanks in Regiment

It was understood that Pakistan Army had retained the British Army structure. If this is true then PA should also have 3 tanks per troop. According to info from Bharat Rakshak, IA troop also has 3 tanks with 14 tanks per squadron. However Indian Armoured regiment has 3 Squadrons with 45 tanks in total.

Would appreciate comments from someone from PA Cavalry regiment to advise how many tanks in PA armoured regiment?

Chinese primes show off new land systems at Airshow China.

2012-Nov-20

China South Industries Group Corporation (CSGC) and China North Industries Group (Norinco) unveiled some heavy firepower, including armoured and air defence vehicles, at mid-November's Airshow China 2012.

The CS/VP3 4x4 design is being marketed as a lower-cost solution than Western MRAP-type vehicles currently available on the market. (Gordon Arthur) CSGC's 15-tonne CS/VP3 4x4 MRAP-type vehicle attracted a lot of attention, although a company spokesman acknowledged that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) does not have a requirement for such a mine-resistant vehicle within Chinese borders. CSGS believes the CS/VP3 is suitable for battlefield transportation, ambulance, anti-riot, anti-terrorism and peacekeeping roles, and that it could be an option for overseas customers that are put off by the cost of Western systems.

The firm signalled its intent by taking the CS/VP3 to IDEAS in Karachi in early November, while Sri Lanka is another potential market. Designed with a V-shaped hull, the CS/VP3 accommodates 12 passengers and features two roof hatches where machine guns can be fitted.

Also on display was a highly mobile 8x8 a self-propelled air defence system, probably built by Norinco. The system, which is an entirely new design, boasts a six-barrelled 30 mm Gatling-type gun designed for short-range defence against aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Information on the stand claimed it can also engage cruise missiles. The turret features radar and at the exhibit was fitted with what appeared to be four FN-6 fire-and-forget missiles.

Two further Norinco air defence vehicles were displayed at Zhuhai: the CS/SA1 35 mm 6x6 truck-mounted air defence gun mounting a twin-barrelled 35 mm L/90 cannon, and the LD2000 ground-based close-in weapon system. The LD2000, which is already in PLA service, is an 8x8 vehicle mounting a seven-barrelled Type 730B 30 mm Gatling gun and a J-band tracking radar.
Other products on show included the 7.85-tonne CS/VN3 4x4 armoured personnel carrier from CSGC; a Type 820 S-band low-altitude air defence radar on a Type 92B 6x6 hull; and Norinco's CS/SM1 81mm Self-Propelled Rapid Mortar. The 81.4 mm breech-loaded mortar, which has a 6.2 km range, is mounted on a Dong Feng EQ2050 4x4 chassis.

is this MRAP under evaluation by the PA?

It was present at IDEAS and some member did say something along the lines of an MoU or something being signed. We were also evaluating Casspir, what happened to that? Sarkari karwayi hogayi udhar bhi?
