Pakistan has allowed the United States military and its coalition partners in Afghanistan to maintain a presence in Quetta, Balochistan, the US Department of Defence told Congress in a report.

"Pakistan Army General Headquarters recently approved an ODRP and Coalition presence at the PAKMIL 12 Corps HQ in Quetta, Balochistan," the Pentagon said in its report on the 'Progress Toward Security and Stability in Afghanistan'.

It said that while the US government "recognizes the tremendous effort continuous PAKMIL operations represent for the Pakistan Government, insurgent safe havens along the border will remain the primary problem to achieving a secure and stable Afghanistan."

"One initiative toward this end is increasing the cooperation between Afghanistan, ISAF, and Pakistan Forces along the border to provide a more comprehensive approach to eradicating the insurgency," it added.

The report said that overall, US relations with the PAKMIL have improved. "There have been many positive steps taken to dismantle extremist networks and deny terrorists safe havens in Pakistan. There is still much work to be done, but there is a positive trend line toward achieving the overall strategic goals," it maintained.

The report also took notice of the importance of India's role in Afghanistan, saying, "India's presence in Afghanistan cannot be understood without considering the tense, fragile relationship between Pakistan and India. In the beginning of the reporting period, April 26-27, President Karzai visited New Delhi. The visit was seen as successful from both sides, with India reaffirming its commitment to Afghanistan as a reliable partner."

"India continues to be one of Afghanistan's largest assistance donors, providing 1.3 billion USD funding for major infrastructure projects like power transmission, power lines, roads, etc. Work on the Salma hydroelectric dam in Herat Province continues.

In addition, India provides agriculture assistance and has increased access to degree scholarships and training programs," it added.

The report declared that the long-term stability and security of Afghanistan was intertwined in the dynamics of the region and the continuing influence, both positive and negative, of Afghanistan's neighbours

:disagree:

No US troops presence in Quetta

RAWALPINDI – The ISPR has rejected the report about presence of US office in Balochistan capital, Quetta.

A spokesman for ISPR on Saturday denied the presence of US office of the Defense Representative in Pakistan (ODRP) in Quetta.

Rubbishing the report, he said the US officials pay occasional visit to provide information and coordinate between ISAF and the Pakistan military whenever the US forces are conducting operations close to the border in Afghanistan. – Agencies

No Pakistani wants American Soldiers or Drones in Pakistan. Any presence isn't acceptable by the Pakistanis. It all boils down to a simple mindset. They just want to be left alone, if you want to do something then it has to be civilian oriented and peaceful

whatever .......we are sleepy lyke death ....... will not effect anything to us if pakarmy has allowed ......... but everyone has to pay back ................

dunno why pak army has allowed this to hapen? no self respecting country will be pleased with this development.

Completely agree, but then they have to seek US army's assistance to eradicate the talibanis from FATA since their army is not allowed to operate there. So they are quite used to it by now, its been almost a decade.

Proud Pakistani citizens don't mind it at all.

Hope the news is not true, cuz it will just raise more anti Amercanism in Pakistan.

I think if US seriously wants to help Pakistan than they should help like Chinese. For example they should develop Gawadar to become a industrial city, open their markets for Pakistani goods, support Pakistan to establish electronics & automobile industries etc. If US will survey in Pakistan, they will find out that none of Pakistani is happy & dosent even care if US is giving civilian aids etc. Chinese never gives Pakistan any aids, but do it themselves, cuz they knew the aid will never ever reach Pakistani, it will only go in polititions bank accounts.

BTW sorry for offtopic stuff ^^^, but i could'nt found where to post this.

I guess u haven't gone through whole thread, this is point of view of most of the Pakistan i.e.

If there is Security, it should only come from Pakistan's Security Officials, No one other should be allowed in Pakistan's Territory

If Pakistan have allowed this, despite the official denials, it will have been a huge mistake.

The US is determined, it's her policy, to diminish Pakistan and to create conditions such that Pakistan's relations with China and India will see a role reversal.

The sooner the US is shown the door, the sooner peace will become a real possibility between Pakistan and India and within Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Before we get the usual from those who support US policies without regard to it's effects on those for whom the policies are crafted for, we ask that you abandon the method of uncritical review, it's just a non-starter. These individuals must explain what the US has been doing for these last 10 years, why it's policies are a failure and why these policies deserve to be continued?

Mr. Muse, as per Gen Musharraf, the CIA has their own office in Quetta. It's only a minor extension that they might have actual troops there as well, who else would carry out the operations?

I'm disappointed as well, but that is just how it is.

You may want to prepare for even greater disappointment because Pakistan's territorial integrity is not something the "live to fight another day" armed forces can guarantee.
