US drone strikes in Pakistan “must stop”, Pakistan’s powerful army chief General Raheel Sharif said on Wednesday, days after American special forces killed Taliban chief Mullah Mansour in a drone attack in the country’s restive Balochistan province.

Speaking with the media after attending President Mamnoon Hussain’s address to a joint session of Parliament, Sharif said: “US drone strikes in Pakistani territory are regrettable and must stop.”

Sharif’s comments on the drone strikes comes in the backdrop of US drone strike in Balochistan on May 21 that killed Mansour.

Hailing Mansour’s death as an “important milestone” in efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan, US President Barack Obama has said that American forces would continue to go after threats on Pakistani soil.

“We have removed the leader of an organisation that has continued to plot against and unleash attacks on American and Coalition forces.

We will work on shared objectives with Pakistan, where terrorists that threaten all our nations must be denied safe haven,” Obama has said, confirming Mansour’s death.

Sharif also said the operation against the militants was going on successfully.

“We have to maintain the victories of Operation Zarb-i-Azb. Terrorists will not be allowed to re-enter into areas cleared in South Waziristan and North Waziristan,” he said.

General Sharif said that the border management with Afghanistan was improving and urged Afghanistan to take matching measures on its side of the border.

He declared that $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was a national project and it would be completed at any cost.

He said that the security situation in the country, especially in Karachi city and Balochistan province was improving.

Earlier, the army chief attended the joint session of the parliament to listen the address of the president.

The session was also attended by the chiefs of navy, and air force.

Get Your Facts Straight
1.Since Zarb e Azb There Has Been No Major Drone Attack in FATA For The Past Two Odd Years
2.The Noshki Incident Is Still Controversial Since Interior Minister Has Stated That There Was No Drone Attack In Noshki and PAF Radars Had Not Detected Any UAV Coming From Afghanistan
3.The Entire NATO and ISAF Forces Are Under UN Mandate And That Includes CIA Drones. That Is Why These Attacks Have A Tacit Approval Of Pakistan Government. This Has Been Admitted By Musharraf. The Problem With COAS Is That He Had Been Handed A Massive Baggage.Taking Out TTP Was One Thing Taking Out Drones Is Another Since It Involves Complicated Foreign Policy Matters.

Raheel Shareef Has Inherited A Very Difficult Situation And He Has Done A Remarkable Job In The Little Time He Has Had

No he is not helpless. FM-90 / HQ-7 can shoot down the drones any day.
But politicians are enunchs and never passed a clear resolution asking the armed forces to shoot the drones.
Military won't take unilateral action since Kargil episode. When own prime minister betrayed own army.

You can't blame the politicians, they are being prudent. You are in no position to wage war against the USA. I don't think any country is, today. If you shoot down a drone, next time it will be a full strike package of manned jets. And to make sure, they would probably shoot down your air defence radars first.

Did you think that shooting down an American drone wouldn't have any consequence? That from then on they wouldn't dare to violate Pakistani airspace?

I notice both Indians and Pakistanis have this tendency to assert that their country is not doing something because their politicians don't have the courage. They don't need any courage, it won't be their lives on the line. It's the soldiers and people who will suffer.

I'm sure you can shoot down drones, but you cannot handle what would follow. No country can afford to have the USAF and USN knocking on their doors. Thank your politicians for being prudent, rather than populist in this matter.

Not that simple !!!!
They need a justified ( may be imaginary ) reason to attack a country. Iran is facing them over a decade now.
Pak leadership only need guts to stand up. If they shoot down a drone in their Air space there is nothing USA can do. Nothing illegal in that.

After math won't be a US counter attack but more sanctions and striping the "Aid"
Which is more of concern for Pak.

US won't dare attack Pakistan if Pakistan says it will use all weapons at it'seems disposal to defend itself.

Pakistan would go down but can obliterate US bases and it's precious Jewish entity at the same time.

The US bluff can be called but Pakistan does not want to do it.

It's not simple as that too.
If USA attack Pak there is nothing Pak can do. China won't interven . Most it will help Pak in UN but seriously nuking Israil with close the case for Pak.

Look what world did in Crima case. Nothing.
Pak is not weak but not strong enough to hit USA where it hurts

Loss on the ground for Pak will be worse and I don't think nuking enemy in your own land is best idea for you

According to new theory after few years Pak will be a problematic state for USA in their aim to check China

In that period any terrorist attack on US soil originated from Pak will be a good enough reason for USA to dehorn Pak if not eliminate

You did not get my point.

If Pakistan would threaten to use all means to defend itself then US would back down.

Yes US can beat Pakistan but it would lose it's status as a superpower due to the immense damage that Pakistan can do.

Pakistan CAN'T & Will NOT impose remarkable damage on USA. No one can other than Russia and China. Fact.

USA didn't back down on Saddam's threat.

All Pak offensive tools will be bombed in first few hours

USA didn't back down on Saddam's threat.

Saddam had NOTHING to hurt US or it's allies.

You miss that the US is only a superpower since it has allies that think they can defend them.

If Pakistan said it would unleash everything at US bases and allies then the US will back down.
Pakistan is defending itself and US won't risk it's superpower status for drone attacks.

At the end of the day it is Pakistan's choice but they are one of the few countries that can make
US back down.

time to wake up...... Pakistan do immense damage in terms of what?

It hardly done any damage to India despite uses its all might ......

he must be helpless as its not internal issue of pakistan . army is only powerful on us bloody civilians
actually it's GOP who is helpless . They are not willing to say Good bye to uncle Sam

You are free to think or imagine. But attack US bases in othey counties ... Good luck. That will be End of Pakisant and affirmation of US superpower status. And new proxy state/s having direct border to China !!!!! I would bet on USA will be willing to lose few bases for that
