Over 200 Mizo youths recruited by Indian Army

the problem of ZO people (mizo translation) was never with the mainlander to begin with .It was the arrogancy of the assamese govt that really stirred their insurgency. The ZO people were independent all through their history and following independence they suddenly found their way of living threatened by formation of new nations all around them. By then Christianity had only begin to spread among the various ZO tribes .The present day Mizoram was included in Assam as lushai hill district and they strongly disliked the idea of someone far (in Dispur) making decisions for them(same arrogance exhibited against Manipur and nagaland also). The final blow came in late 1960s when Mizo people had warn the govt. at dispur about impending mautam Mautam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia famine but the minister in charge in dispur dissmised it citing it as a tribal nonsense.

Many people in far flung areas died in the famine which angered them to start the insurgency.. They had almost captured whole of Mizoram when the dispur SOS ed delhi to help and had to take some unfortunate but unavoidable step to preserve the unity of republic. Many atrocities against the mizo people were allegedly committed by armed forces.

All this events are still fresh in minds of mizo people and probably it will take a long time to erase it , but then there is nothing more anyone can do. They are very progressive people albeit a bit clannish(tribals of NE usually are):P. They are not anti Indian and newer generation is definitely not anti Indian as long as rest of India is bit sensitive towards them (racism against NEasterner is definitely not helping it).Economic development of the state(rest of the region) will hasten the integration.

Here is the picture of Jeje Lalpheklua who plays for India (Indian national football team). He is from Mizoram.

:offpost: I hope my people (BODO) too would get separate state --bodoland --assamese hegemony is too much to take:sick:
yes i also hope that your people will get a separate Bodoland state in the near future because if Telengana demand can be met by the Center then i am sure yours will too in the near future.but i have a question regarding this matter,if the demand for a separate Bodoland is met by the GoI then will the NDFB(anti-talk) faction lay their arms and join the main stream politics?

to be honest the anti talk faction are way too small to be given that much attention .. if Bodoland is granted they will disappear on its own .. nobody is fool enough to keep fighting for even more worthless cause. i mean what fool can dream of a new nation between Bhutan and India. How the heck people are going to survive in there:omghaha:(this argument is valid for all other separatist groups of NE too)???

Thanks for the detailed information.

In all my quest to clarify the curiosity of non-Indians about us folks, I always forgot to add Jeje despite highlighting Baichung (don't mind, I gotta be partial with him being from my home state AS WELL AS my Bhutia community :D).

And Zooti bhai, I thought you were above the whole 'my state', 'your state' thing. :what:

Look at our region; it is already fragmented so badly with tiny states.

Blame the useless Gogoi government; not the entire Assami people for this.

And if at all you are still keen in a different state, just don't name it a 'land'. We're not British. Try a Bodo name or add a Pur or Pradesh at the end of you can't think of a Bodo name.

Wow..you a Bodo..which part of Assam are you from??? Do you think giving statehood to Bodoland is the right idea. I mean we have so many tribes in Assam. Everyone will be demanding their own states. It will stir a Hornet's Nest. Initially I was also a supporter of Gorkhaland movement but now it seems it will only lead to chaos in entire North East if a new state is declared for a particular tribe.

I agree with you, bhai.

As such our region is so small with limited population and sockfuls of illegal you-know-whos trampling and occupying our land.

Having more states will mean more disunity and more clanism among different tribes and communities.

Look at states like MP, Maharashtra, Karnataka etc who were also once divided into multiple kings, tribe leaders and clans. But today, they are all together and have moved on together. Even Sikkim where we have so many different people including north, west and south Indians in small numbers and despite being so small, we welcome it. :)

I think we all should move towards state camaraderie (not my state though, we have a lot of diversity and in peace) and slowly towards national integration.

We need to move on from 'special provisions' or 'protected state'.

As a wise man once said:

"One must strive to stand OUT in the crowd; not stand OUT of the crowd."

You know, it is these pesky separatists that have kept our region in the 17th century till now.

Their nefarious activities have been the bane for all development and progress in our region. While we as a region have some of the best literacy rate and a good life expectancy, there is nothing developing in any of our states except maybe in big cities like Guwahati, which gets all the limelight of being a hub in entire NE.

I really pray that people from all our states open their eyes and see through the lies of these separatists and smugglers who are actually taking a toll of our region and keeping us away from development.

My best wishes for Independent NE region standing out of the backward clay footed India. They are the martial race and destined to be the best country in the region.

ohh,if India is a backward and clay footed country then bangaldesh should be a medieval country in that scenario.you guys are absolutely good for nothing except for making chaddi and banyan:omghaha:.i am seriously concerned about the future of the bangaldeshi population as bangaldesh will most probably cease to exist as a country(as it'll be under the Bay of Bengal by then) in the near future:lol:!!!

.

bhai No it wont, infact it will bring peace in the region .. look at Mizoram one homogeneous tribe without any problems, agreed less industrialistion but at least the are living peacefully . It would not have been possible if they had remain with assam .Meghalaya is 2nd example.Aren`t them integrated into nation any less than say an average assamese?? . The bottom line is, give actual power to people who are demanding it , if they have all the power they will not have anyone to blame to if they fail . look at BTC it is useless territorial council made to appease Bodo people> on paper people will argue ,oh see ,them have territorial council , but in reality all the power and finance is still in the hand of people at dispur who are incompetent and insensitive.

Schools are still not provincialised , textbooks in bodo medium schools arrive 8 months late , health system in shambles and infrastructure non existence.Don`t you think this would show up in CV of our country when we declare the world we are a superpower...No meal, no school for Bodo children | Features | Education:frown::frown:

Do children in mizoram have to suffer like bodo children ?? Noh... they were smart enough to create a state for themselves and look at them what a shining example they are:smart:, for the nation AND when will our bodo youths will join IA ?? well when they have the proper eduction, may be then:undecided:...

Your maharastra example will not work here because we are culturally way too diferent and unlike them where dominant group appeased the minorities , here , dominant ones are trying hard to finish off what remains of smaller communities . they carry this awful sense of superiority complex which is unlikely to go way soon. You know the initial planners in assam would not let tribal territories to formed into new state as they wanted all of us to adopt to "their ways of living" because they were "superior" communtiy and then Nagaland happened , Meghalaya happened , Mizoram happened and now we are staring at Bodoland.

It is better for the republic to create more states and union territories in NE , it does not cost much, what will happen ?? definitely better than fighting decades of insurgencies and lack of development, it will keep the diversity alive and will unite us to the contrary of what you think. Is not unity in Diversity our strength???

just my rant don't take it seriously , let`s not wash our dirty linen in public
