The category of newly industrialized country (NIC) is a socioeconomic classification applied to several countries around the world by political scientists and economists.

NICs are countries whose economies have not yet reached Developed Country status but have, in a macroeconomic sense, outpaced their developing counterparts. Another characterization of NICs is that of nations undergoing rapid economic growth (usually export-oriented). Incipient or ongoing industrialization is an important indicator of a NIC. In many NICs, social upheaval can occur as primarily rural, or agricultural, populations migrate to the cities, where the growth of manufacturing concerns and factories can draw many thousands of laborers.

Current NICs

I hope India keeps progressing like this and best wishes to China

With Congress at the center just pray that India doesn't becomes de-industrialized forget about progressing !

How exactly does UN classify developed nations?
At least Turkey should have been considered industrialized/developed by now.

Aaaaaaaaand here it comes: Super  Just turn another thread into a brainless BJP vs. Congress troll thread and boast about Modis future achievements which will come true, not matter what happens till then :hitwall:

'Progressing'? I thought we're now up sh!t creek without a paddle!!

We are progressing fairly well now. Dont expect 8 % growth in these times.

Hopefully our growth continues and we see a higher human development factor.

Yeah well indians twist numbers a lot. They compare their 8% growth with China's 8% growth(right now we can't do even that because we are on 5%) but while comparing it like that we forget that china has 3x India's per capita and hence their % is very very high compared to India. To be comparable to that india needs a double digit growth on basis of something like 12% , which is not impossible as Subramanian Swamy has said.

If the world economy experiences a unique super like boom and we implement some serious reforms.... we can maybe grow with 12 % ...

But for now and in the near future, no! This statement is pure and utter BS.

Philippine is in that list? That's a surprise. Btw turkey is most likely counted as a developed state by CIA stats.

What's wrong in his post ?

Its common sense that we in midst of a massive policy paralysis and country on auto-pilot that even congress leaders are saying that the two-power center policy has failed. And moreover he did not say anything about BJP or Modi..it was you who brought that up.

So what, now we are all supposed to feel happy and circle jerk here ? Saying anything to the contrary is banned ?

FYI - Core sector contracts 2.5% in Feb; worst performance in decades
