New Aircheif Appointed

First of all thanks to ACM Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed for serving the PAF and Pakistan with such dedication and devotion. He has made the whole nation proud with the kind of service he provided to the PAF.
Now secondly, Congratulations to the next ACM Rao Suleman. Many of our friends seem to write off our new ACM, but nothing could be done now. Appointment has been made and we should support our new ACM. And hope he follows in the footsteps of his predecessors. Thanks.

Totally disagreed. If merit was the criteria, then AVM Shahid latif was the most qualified for this position. Go and ask anyone in PAF. You will get your answer.

ACM Rao Qamar was 4th on the seniority list - the other 3 are superceded and as per tradition will most probably take early retirement sooner than later.

My dear friend as you quote Mr Zardari As Shaitan, Pakistan is looking for another Shataan waiting in thwe queue Mr Sharif. I really pray God bless Pakistan and people in this countrywho infact vote for these culprits again & again.i guess they will do these mistakes again, because their conscience is dead.

Dude, Whatever the case might be Sharif is not Corrupted neither shaitan. Nonetheless, better than Zardari 1000 X. Imran Khan and Mr Sharif All the way.

What a waste

It was basically a political move by Zardari and named the PM for choosing him . Shadid Latif is retiring and will go in foreign services. thats his first choice rest it up to him. When you make the new chief you slash atleast 3 courses to balance the seniority. Well what is done is done he is a very good officer and a good pilot. We have a good CNC for the next 3 years.

Are we forgetting that Pervez Musharraf h imself was pulled up by Nawaz sharif, in the presence of senior, experienced, well regarded and more qualified generals, such as Gen. Tirmzi himself.

Gen. Zia himself superseded others, and what did he do to Bhutto?

Sometimes leadeship needs to be given,t o test the mettle of the man.

i dont get your point but anyway, musharraf was picked by NS on the recommendation of ch. nisar ali khan, his trusted Lt. because musharraf was not punjabi (so no biradri links) and it was assumed he was a "safe" bet. why musharraf overthrew NS is another story - it stems from NS's ambition of wanting to be the "supreme" leader (aka kim il sung), over and above everyone, even the supreme court!:enjoy:

Pakistan appoints new air chief

Mon, 09 Mar 2009

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman as the country's new chief of air staff (CAS).

Suleman will take command of Pakistan's Air Force from Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed on 18 March when his three-year term expires.

A presidential spokesman said Monday that Zardari made the appointment in consultation with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Air Marshal Suleman, who is a fighter pilot, is currently serving as deputy chief of the Air Staff (Operations).

In order to achieve the top Air Force post, Suleman superseded three senior air marshals: Vice Chief of Air Staff Shahid Lateef, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Chairman Air Marshal Khalid Chaudhry and Deputy Chief of Air Staff Hifazatullah Khan.

The Suleman is a graduate of Flying Instructors’ School, Combat Commanders’ School, PAF Air War College, Faisal and National Defence College in Islamabad from where he did his masters in Strategic Studies.

Suleman has commanded a fighter squadron, a figher wing, PAF Base Peshawar and Southern Air Command. He also served in the UAE Air Force as a fighter instructor pilot.

Once its done, folks need to get used to it. The new ACM will have enough credentials to back up his appointment to the job. He is not only the DCAS (Ops), but in the past has been AOC CAC, and also has been in charge of Air Force's Strategic assets. As a fighter pilot, he is not only a graduate of the CCS, but was also an instructor at the CCS. So his experience cannot be belittled in any way you look at it.

While it always is a huge loss to lose senior talent in the case of superseding other more senior officers, however this is a fact of life that people need to get used to. Fortunately this time it was only 3 more senior officers who were superseded. An alternate to this could be the case of the senior most officer getting the job. This is how things are done in India (however in the US this is not the case).

So you can go either way. If you stick to seniority, then all other things like a better candidate with better performance against an average officer do not matter, on the other hand you avoid all of the controversy as well.
