What's new

Need travel advice to India and Pakistan :)

And what about pakistan? Is it like india where you cannot hire cars for self drive?

You can hire cars for self drive. i would suggest you land at islamabad and then hire a car and do visit taxila, khanpur lake or even further tarbela lake. You should at the end visit lahore via motorway. then you can leave for india by road from there.

I dont think you havew been there yourself. Its supposed to be very beautiful and pristine. The people are quite nice too, from what i know. I think 48 hours is a wild exaggeration.

Are you ethnic European or Indisch with European Passport?

skardu Fort:

Skardu Fort or Kharphocho Fort lies on the eastern face of the Khardrong or Mindoq-Khar ("Castle of Queen Mindoq") hill 15 metres or 40 feet (12 m) above Skardu town. The fort dates from the 8th Century CE and contains an old mosque probably dating back to the arrival of Islam in the 16th Century CE. The fort provides a panoramic view of Skardu town, the Skardu valley and the Indus River. The fort was built by Rmakpon dynasty rulers of Baltistan and it was a seven storey building. It was burnt down by Sikhs in the 18th Century CE.
Kharphocho (Skardu) fort was built on a design similar to that of Leh Palace and the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. The name Kharpochhe means the great fort — Khar in Tibetan means castle or fort and Chhe means great.
