A memorial for 64 Vietnamese martyrs organizaed at the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago

A ceremony commemorating the 24th death anniversary of 64 Vietnamese soldiers who died protecting the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago from foreign invasion was organized on Monday, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The event was held on the islands by a delegation of officials from Vietnamese navy, the central province of Khanh Hoa, the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Dien Bien, and the news agency, said a report on Tuesday.

Colonel Nguyen Duc Vuong, deputy political commissar for High Command of Navy Zone 4, spoke at the event, stressing the bravery and the determination of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in March 1988.

The next generations of Vietnamese Navy are also determined to keep protecting Truong Sa, and build it into a wealthy district of Khanh Hoa, Vuong was quoted as saying.
