Malaika Munni rocks in Pakistan

There are a lot of Bollywood films that can be easily identified with their item numbers. For example the ‘Kajrare’ number by Aishwarya Bhachchan from the film Bunty Aur Babli is regarded as the identity of the film. Similarly, the latest addition in the list is Malaika Arora Khan’s ‘Munni Badnam’ act from the film Dabangg. The sizzling item number was presented very gracefully with everyone whistling on the ‘latka jhatka’ done by Malaika.

Dabangg has not only ruled Indian theaters this year but has also been a blockbuster in our neighboring country Pakistan. Apart from the film’s hero Salman Khan, Malaika is another name that became very popular among the Pakistani households as ‘Munni’. Everyone remembers her in that country as the sizzling item girl of ‘Munni Badnam’.

You can hardly see any marriage or occasion, where people are not dancing to the tunes of ‘Munni Badnam’, composed by Lalit Pandit. In fact, the FM radio stations have been receiving constant request from the listeners to play the song. If you walk casually through the lanes, you might end up hearing some music system in a music store or in anyone's home playing the song and the same can be experienced inside the private cars too.

The great comedian Umar Sharif came out with play titled ‘Munni Badnam Hui’ during this Eid and it was presented at the Arts Council Theatre in Karachi. Pakistani television icon Bushra Ansari wrote a play ‘Doli ki aaye gi baraat’ for Eid and the showstopper of this play was also the ‘dholki’ sequence on the number ‘Munni badnaam hui’.

In one sentence, ‘Munni is rocking’ in Pakistan!

Munni Badnam Hui inspired from Pakistani movie qawwali: Umar Sharif

:cheesy:

The immense popularity of Munni Badnam Hui Darling Tere Liye from the Bollywood super-hit Dabangg has sparked a controversy with Pakistani actor and comedian Umar Sharif claiming it is a "blatant rip-off" from his 1992 movie Mr. Charlie.

Mr. Charlie was written, produced and directed by Umar Sharif in 1992 and included a qawwali Larka Badnam Hua Haseena Tere Liye, Samaa TV reported.

The channel alleged that "the popular Indian song is a blatant rip-off of the 18-year old tune".

"I had penned the lyrics besides playing the male lead in the said movie and the song originally was first filmed for the said movie," Umar Sharif told Samaa TV.

"It is a pity that the original song was not noticed while the Indian offering is being admired by everybody. It also reflects poorly on the viewership of Pakistani movies," the media report said while drawing attention towards the declining standards of Pakistani movies.

Indian movies have a huge fan following in Pakistan and have also managed to revive the cinema-going culture in the country since the films were allowed to be screened in theatres three years ago.

Sharif himself staged a play titled Munni Badnam Hui in Karachi this Eid in which he donned the avatar of Munni. The catchy tune of the song and the sensual performance of Malaika Arora aka Munni are being credited for its record-breaking popularity.

The song Munni... in Salman Khan's home production Dabangg has become a rage in Pakistan. It can be heard blaring out of the audio systems almost everywhere while no wedding ceremony is considered complete without a properly choreographed dance performance on Munni Badnam Hui.

‘Munni Badnaam’ is all the rage

ISLAMABAD:
After years of dominance, Bipasha Basu’s iconic dance song “Beedi” may have ended its reign in Pakistan. Radio channels and mehndi dance practices are alive with the sound of “Munni Badnaam”, the hit song from the Salman Khan film, Dabangg.

Featuring the inimitable Malaika Arora Khan, the song went on to become a chart topper in India and the film broke box office records, including that held by Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots.

But while Dabangg made millions at the box office – fuelled by the popularity of the song – it also came in for its share of controversy. The producers of Dabangg were served a legal notice by the makers of Zandu Balm (a product mentioned in the song) and “Munni Badnaam” itself has been reportedly plagiarised. The song is said to be inspired by “Launda Badnaam Hua Naseeban Tere Liye” from the album Balma Bada Bavaali (1998) which in turn was lifted from a Pakistani song “Larka Badnam Hua” from the film Mr Charlie (1992) starring comedian Umer Sharif.

The alleged plagiarism hasn’t deterred anyone from capitalising on the song to attract viewers.

People who tuned into the radio during the holiday may have heard the Eid-themed jingle, “Bakra qurbaan kia, darling tere liye”.

Umer Sharif, who is known for his rib-tickling stage performances, returned to the stage this Eid after several years with a play titled Munni Badnam Hui, which was staged at Karachi’s Arts Council theatre.

Sharif played a character called Munni in the play and had the audience in fits with his funny lines and comic situations. The storyline of the play revolved around a household with Munni as the focus of attention in her locality.

The song has also been spoofed on a political satire show.:partay:

Bushra Ansari’s play Doli Ki Aayegi Baraat was staged on Geo TV this Eid. The play revolved around two families, one living in Karachi and the other in Faisalabad, whose children wanted to marry each other. The finale of the play was a dholki sequence where both the families danced their hearts out to “Munni Badnaam”.

We have been over this ' inspiration ' thing before.

If inspired , this ' inspiration' is better than the original.

It's an old bhojpuri song actually which goes something like 'launda badnam hua nasiban tere liye'

malaika should be made brand ambassador of indo-pak friendship (LOL). i know my pak brothers would agree with me.
