TEHRAN (FNA)- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei wants high mobility for the Iranian air-defense shields, specially for S-200 anti-aircraft missile systems, a senior Iranian air-defense commander said.

Speaking in a ceremony to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the former commander of the Iranian Air Force Mansour Sayyari here in Tehran on Tuesday, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli said that the Leader has made the above-mentioned recommendation during a November 4 meeting with air-defense forces.

Esmayeeli said mobility of air-defense systems was one of the initiatives of Martyr Sayyari, and stated that Ayatollah Khamenei also laid emphasis on the same initiative in the meeting and said 'continue this trend and do the same thing with the S-200 missile system as well'.

The Leader also emphasized improvement of sentinel systems, he added.

In November, Iranian air defense units exercised targeting Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with S-200 anti-aircraft missile system during their massive air defense exercises in Eastern Iran, codenamed "Modafe'an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4 (Defenders of Velayat Skies 4)".

The Islamic Republic Air Defense units hit and destroyed a jet-engine drone using S-200 missiles.

Iran's S-200 system is a very long range, medium-to-high altitude surface-to-air missile (SAM) system designed to defend large areas from bomber attack or other strategic aircrafts.

As regards sentinel devices, Iranian Air Defense forces tested the latest electronic surveillance and tapping devices, including smart sentinel equipments during the Defenders of Velayat Skies 4) wargames.

Esmayeeli said at the time that air defense units tested the latest radar and electronic surveillance devices such as "Rasad 32" and "Sayyad 40" during the drills.

"In area of (electronic) tapping, a system has been designed by Khatam ol-Anbia base, dubbed as Sayyad 40, and has been mass produced, and this system has been deployed in air defense sites," Esmayeeli said.

As regards Rasad 32, Esmayeeli said that the system has been included in the "Army's integrated air defense network as a smart sentinel system".
