It’s a big victory and good news for India. The Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday confirmed that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued. Catholic priest Tom Uzhunnalil was abducted by the Islamic State in Yemen last year. “Muscat has secured the release of the Indian priest who was abducted during a deadly attack by Islamist militants in Yemen, Oman’s official news agency said,” as per news agency AFP.

Tom Uzhunnalil was abducted during a terrorist raid on a Missionaries of Charity-run old age home in Aden in Yemen. The abduction happened on March 4, 2016. At least 16 people including four nuns were killed in the attack. Thomas Uzhunnalil belongs to Ramapuram village of Kerala’s Kottayam district.

Earlier, in the month of March this year, Thomas Uzhunnalil made an emotional appeal for a rescue in a five-minute video that was posted on YouTube.

Indian Priest Tom Uzhunnalil Rescued From Daesh Captivity

Indian Ministry of External Affairs had been working relentlessly to secure the release of Father Tom Uzhunnalil who was taken captive by Daesh last year from Yemen.

New Delhi (Sputnik) — Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has confirmed the release of a Christian priest belonging to India's southern state of Kerala from the clutches of Daesh in Yemen.

"I am happy to inform that Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been rescued," Sushma Swaraj said in her tweet.

According to foreign ministry sources, Indian was able to secure the release of the priest after the government of Oman proactively helped in the matter. Father Tom Uzhunnalil has been taken to Muscat in Oman and from there he will be flown to his native state of Kerala later.

Father Tom Uzhunnalil was kidnapped on 4 March 2016, by Daesh terrorists who attacked an old- age home run by Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in Aden in Yemen.

Good pro-active from MEA. However there should be some clear information on 32 workers still held in captivity or told to be held.
Seems Vatican might have paid the money through Indian and Oman government. Vatican initially didnt even care much. Father Tom later released an emotional video that if he had been an European the reaction would have been different. Good thing is Another Indian citizen rescued. Thanks to Sushma and Oman government.
