What's new

JF17 now maritime strike role

JF 17 should be modified for naval operations so that real potential can be realized.

Thunder is multi-role. Remember? Means it will take on multiple kind of ops. This is inherited in its design philosophy. We are not going to made it land on an aircraft carrier ... so no major modifications are necessary. In flight refueling is part of Block-II upgrade.

What the Indians have been saying

2014- PN navy is a mouse infront of our mighty Indian Navy.
2015- So you think having a few more F-22p's is gonna do good?
2016- Comment pending.

I have a question what is the difference for this Sq with other ones ,as i remmeber for maritime role aircraft special coatings are done and even Engine goes little protective coatings as well ,Did this sq have some thing else .?

Indians have a habit of commenting in this fashion. Just leave the alone with their trolling. Pakistani armed forces have their own plans and ambitions as per our requirements and resources. Bottom line is whatever India acquire Pakistan will continue to keep Indian plans in check by making its own acquisition. Certainly, PN is in need of heavy ships like Air Defense Destroyers or Guided Missile Destroyers but despite lacking that capability, PN has its own plans to deny Indian Navy blockade.

Hon Sir,

What you say is hundred percent correct if there were to be a blue water engagement between Pakistan & Indian surface flotillas, say somewhere near Sri Lanka. However, probable future engagement between PN & IN is unlikely to be so.

Firstly, ambush in the blue water would be job of the submarines. Needless to point out that Augusta 90 with AIP can remain submerged for up to 21 days. Augusta would be augmented by 8 additional Chinese origin submarines. Indian Navy would be forced to employ substantial assets in seeking and destroying the Hunter Killer subs of Pakistan Navy leaving fewer vessels to fight PN surface fleet.

Surface engagement will most likely be in the littoral waters. Having 4 additional frigates would certainly go a long way towards this end. Remember we only have to ensure clear sea lane within a 200 Kilometre strip along our shores. PC-3 Orion LMR planes would locate Indian naval vessels long way off and PN would have 8 F-22 frigates along with half a dozen or so missile carrying FAC to face the Indian Naval attackers.

The above frigates & FAC supported by a squadron (16 planes) armed with Anti- Ship Sea Skimming missiles pose a serious threat to any intruder. The missile armed planes can also be supported by fighter escort if so required.

Secondly, in view of your post, do you expect Pakistan Navy to do nothing?

Asymmetric war is nothing new, and regardless of the numerical disadvantages, the nation has to fight with whatever she has. All that is needed is having the capability of inflicting sufficient damage on the adversary that he thinks twice before attempting to start the war. However, if your post implies that since the rape is inevitable; one might as well enjoy it? That is certainly not Pakistan Navy's way of thinking.

next 2 years are very cruical for PA+navy +airforce.the assests they are planed to acquire have huge impact on defence capabilities

A fast jet carrying a even faster missile is a massive threat to any warship at sea and the JF-17 with C802 and CM-400AGK is as good as it gets

two ashm is not a good combination I believe to even penetrate a CIWS alone These missile would need to be fired in hexa quantity which means with this combination 3 jf17. with todays electro optical and radar systems CIWS alone are a serious threat to missiles. impressively they are in excess of 20mm which means even a single or two hits from hundreds of bullets coming means end to missile.

The computational ballistics involved to intercept a fast missile is very hard

US has been developing the BMD for decades where are they now

USS Stark was clipped pretty badly and they tracked the missile from launch to impact

Isreali Saar was also another victim apparently the CIWS was "switched off" in the middle of a war zone

CIWS is a last ditch defence and has many dead zones which it doesn't cover around a warship, maybe ask the Royal Navy who in 1982 had hell from just 4 air launched Exocet anti ship missiles from the Argentinian navy

Hi,

WE do this coating on the cars as well for paint protection---we offer it to the customers----.

In the US all airlines have that done on the engine air intakes and other parts which maybe exposed to oxidation or seal salts.

Two more hard points
change in landing gear to enhance fuel carrying capability
more strengthening of wings to carry more extra load
slightly increase the size of fuselage to carry more fuel
try to add conformal fuel tanks if possible.
Oh, that sounds like you mean 'upgrading' the F/A-18C/D to F/A-18E/F.

I'm all for conformal fuel tanks
