JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

this is exceptionally relevant video as a hard learning in relation to the marketing of the JF-17 which is painfully flawed and has some very criminally insane pitch lines like "cheap", "affordable", 3 JF-17s for a western Jet etc.
people who have come up with such promotional pitch must be lined up and whipped until their behinds turn blue.

when it comes to the buyers of modern jet fighters, the seller has to understand that he should only market and pitch top end quality, high tech design and performance and absolute perfection exceeding expectations.

you never see Swiss watchmakers pitching affordability and cheapness their customers would run away for miles if a luxury item is sold cheap. price shouldn't even have a mention it should be an afterthought.
there is no chance that PAC will have a change of heart. from the pilots flying these jets in the airshows to the civilians at the JF17 counters in exhibitions with marketing material and the air chiefs and program directors start and finish mentioning how cheap and cost effective this jet is. the reasoning is that not every country can afford the western jets so its a cheap alternative. the problem is that it leaves very few countries , you pretty much rule out the entire middle eastern countries and the remaining countries that are left then cant buy more than a squadron and they too are looking for further discounts.[/QUOTE]

Sir you are quite right about words like economical and cheap as they may fit our culture but not proper in international arena. This is example of cultural barrier however on lighter side a K2 cigarette buyer shall always buy a K2 instead of getting an expensive one. Due to limited thinking the so called marketers are targeting only under developed or small countries only like Nigeria, Uzbeks, Sudan perhaps and one to two half hearted attempts to sell perhaps Egypt or few others every one knows. On other side latest perhaps Ukraine rumors are coming.

The team perhaps has people from within PAF though getting Marketing degree as secondary choice yet have brains of grounded fighter pilot or an Aeronautical engineer/Computer genius trying to explore Marketing by job compulsions only.

sir is paf using oxygen generated system instead of oxygen cylinders?
As per my understanding and knowledge no such system so far inducted in JF17 and many comment that as per roles assigned to JF17 and endurance such system was not required.

I seldom indulge in a discussion here as people become rough which is against the purpose of such forums. On the other side not have any close relative in PAF but met a technician who was hopeful that the bird shall grow with passage of time and it is happening.

JF-17 does not have a OBOGS. As far as I know It has a French oxygen cylinder that lasts for about three hours.

you have best explained and justified the JF 17 marketing pitch. that the jet is targeting the low budget air forces of Asia and Africa that cant afford the Western jets due to budget constraints or due to sanctions.

we can rule out the Middle eastern countries like Iran and Syria because of the international sanctions and complications of international relations and we can also rule out UAE, KSA and Qatar etc because those countries are pretty much in the clutches of the Western suppliers. the possibility of Egyptian sale didn't go past the gossip and assumptions either.

coming to Latin America its an unexplored territory Chile, Peru, Brazil, Mexico? who knows. But the story wont be a different from the mix of Africa and Asia. the Britons were theorizing the possibility of Argentina acquiring the FC1 / JF-17 and how RAF would counter them if hypothetically there is a followup of Focklands war.

The near future buyer may be Sudan as the new Govt is cooperating with powers which were opposed Umer Al Bashir and they may get resources from KSA for purchase of JF17. On other side Argentina may have issue regarding range of JF17. But may get few of them if China approves some sort of credit line for them as previously they were interested in J10 but lack of finances and British pressure on suppliers are biggest hurdles. Both can be resolved in case of deal with China.

The gadgets used or choices available to buyers shall decide the chances of JF17 induction in any rich Arab country air force. Off course true marketing tactics related to current era are must.

Turkey needs fighters, like yesterday. They have no options other than Russian Su-35s. The JF-17 can actually do exactly what Turkey needs - to bomb Syrian and Libyan targets, while defending itself against third rate aircraft / air defense. Its only a matter of closing a deal between Imran Khan and Erdogan...

Just an idea

now you mention the GCC countries and I think we might have a chance if we do the deal cleverly. if we get a compatible Western engine say from GE and western radar then the west might not mind if we manage to sell some jets to countries like Egypt and Jordan.
but I absolutely agree with posters like @araz who in the past explained very well why GCC and Pakistan cant complete a fight jet deal despite willingness but there might be a slight chance if a westernized version of these Jets are custom made for Arabs, provided they have a need for that. I dont know if any of the airforces have any room other than say Saudis who might need to retire their Tornado jets.

That would be indeed a logical decision ... but since when are such decisions driven my ratio and logic and IMO esp. Mr. Erdogan's ego will never ever allow such a purchase.

Sometimes it is not as simple as one thinks. PAF is using Chinese Technology since 1965 in the form of F-6's. Though the JF-17 is ideal to replace F-4's and other 2nd generation aircraft currently flown in the TrAF would still be a very expensive and complicated process. PAF uses link 17 to communicate with the JF-17 and the Karakorum Eagle AWACs provide them with situational awareness, further more the communication with aerial refuelers also requires many support systems. Getting these systems on the existing TrAF inventory will be very difficult because NATO will consider them as a compromising factor. Moreover all the modifications that are required will also need clearances from USA which are highly unlikely in the present situation.

All these support systems will also be used for SU-35s, will NATO or America allow it's F-16s to communicate with Russian Systems?
