Israel claims Russian missle hit school bus

A diplomatic crisis is threatening Israel-Russia relations after the Kornet, a Russian-made anti-tank missile, hit an Israeli school bus driving near Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council last Thursday.

Israel protested the fact that a Russian missile found its way to Hamas and was used for a terror attack against Israel, Yediot Ahronot reported.

Unlike may other means of warfare the manufacturing of the Kornet is only permitted inside Russia, so any Kornet missile sold outside the country originates from the country's KBP factory.

In the past, the United States government imposed sanctions on KBP after Israel proved missiles made in the factory were sold to Syria and eventually ended up in Hezbollah hands.

After the 2006 Lebanon War Israel presented Russia with evidence proving Kornet missiles sold to Syria hit Israeli tanks. The Russians denied all allegations.

Now Israel claimed the anti-tank missile, which hit the bus last week, was sold by the Russians to Syria. At the time, Syria passed the weapons to Hezbollah, while breaching its contract with Russia. They were then smuggled into the Gaza Strip and ended up in the hands of Hamas terrorists.

Israel claimed these missiles violate the balance of power and that attacking a children's school bus with it is considered a war crime.

"The missile was smuggled into the Gaza Strip with the help of external elements such as Syria and Iran, who constantly try to arm Hamas with improved and advanced weapons for attacks," a State official said.

"Israel was only recently able to prevent a huge arms shipment from being smuggled in, which included surface-to-sea missiles from Iran. Based on this it's easy to understand Israel's objection to free passage of ships into the Gaza Strip. Hostile elements try to destroy this policy with so-called 'humanitarian' flotillas," he added.

Israel protested the issue many times, including during a meeting between Israeli officials and Russian Ambassador to Israel Pyotr Stegny. Russia then promised to look into Israel's claims.

Israel has asked Russia to not sell arms that violate the balance of powers to Syria, warning the weapons usually make their way to Hezbollah. Now Israel added Hamas to that list.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials fear that dozens, if not hundreds, of shoulder-mounted missiles have been robbed from the Libyan army and have ended up in armories of Mideast terror organizations.

The biggest concern is that some of the missiles were taken by rebels who in turn will pass them on to Gaza Strip terrorists. These missiles include anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles.

Israel has updated the US, the United Nations and the European Union on the alarming issue.

Not at all. Supplies of arms to Hezbollah are a violation of UNSC 1701. Syria and Russia are supposed to act to prevent such shipments (Clause 15).

Which UNSC resolution you quote to justify the crime- when your army kills innocent Palestinian children?

First of all Hamas itself claimed that bus attack was "retaliation" for killing of 3 of its leasders. Secondly when some Palestinian civilians are killed thats because Hamas uses them as human shields. A photo from this week:

BTW, Turkey killed thousands of civilians during conflict with PKK, does that justify PKK terror attacks?

The Arabs of Israel are full citizens, and the Arabs of the territories are subject to terror wielded by their own leaders, not Israel.

Zionism was not founded upon terror. The idea has been in the Jewish psyche for thousands of years, and the modern expression of it is that of Herzl and confirmed by the League of Nations and the Caliph of Turkey in the 1920s. True, in 1936-48 some Jews (Stern gang, etc.) wielded it in response to attacks of Arabs and suspected British treachery (in violation of the Mandate) but due to such excesses they were attacked and forced to submit to the will of the majority. These guys were NOT a major influence, not even upon the Arabs. Later some achieved political prominence. The most notable of these, Menachem Begin, signed the peace treaty with Egypt.

As always, critics of Israel generally only convince by citing facts if they cite incompletely or erase context. Try to be more specific if you care about a THINKING person's response!

Who would that be and from where? Yes, some Arabs (not all) fled from Jews out of fear. Many of these (roughly 25%) were allowed to return upon swearing peace and allegiance to the Jewish State. They retained their property rights. That's why Israel is 20% Arab today.

Settlement of Palestine by Jews was explicitly authorized by the British Mandate as long as property rights of Arabs are respected. That is why Jewish settlement of the West Bank is in accord with international law.

If there have been minor divergences from international standards I don't see why Israel shouldn't be granted some slack. After all, Arab dictators kicked Jews out of their own lands into Palestine, starting with the expulsion of Transjordan's Jews in 1920. These Jews received no compensation, and it was all against international law. The few Jews who remained in Arab lands (like Syria and Egypt) often had their communal property (schools, synagogues) seized from them as well, so eventually they left, too. The purpose of such seizures seems to have been to provide dictators with property which they could use or reward their followers with, thus locking in their evil form of government.

Much anti-Israel stuff is fanned by lies and conspiracy theories originating from Arab Muslims. Yesterday one Arab writer, Aaidh al-Qarni, appealed to his brethren to stop it and take responsibility for their own deficiencies. link To which some Muslim readers responded, “you must do not deny the existence of them in the interests of our Arab and Islamic countries”. link

So this is part of Muslims' internal struggle. If you care about truth and justice, how can you not stand with Israel's Jews?
