When your belief is strong enough, then you can even stand against the impossible and ‪#‎GoBeyond‬ the unimaginable. This is the story of Mozammel Haque – a cyclist, a believer, a game-changer! His conviction gave him strength to surpass all cynicism and disbelief from people around him and evolve Bangladesh's cycling revolution through his group - BDCyclists!

Pran-RFL installing BD's largest bicycle plant | Priyo News

The Pran-RFL Group is setting up the country's largest bicycle plant in its industrial complex in Habiganj, a company official told the FE Tuesday.

It has planned to enter both domestic and international markets with traditional and premium quality cycles.

"We're setting up the largest bicycle plant in the country at a cost of around Tk 1.0 billion," said director (marketing) of the group Kamruzzaman Kamal.

He also said the plant might begin commercial operation in December next. It will initially produce 30,000 units of bicycle per month. Its capacity can be expanded up to 50,000 units per month.

"Initially, we'll use around 40 per cent imported raw materials for manufacturing cycles. Later, we'll gradually reduce dependency on import through setting up backward linkage industries," an official familiar with the project told the FE.

The bicycles, to be named 'Duranta', will be of different load-carrying and welded categories, like mountain terrain bike (MTB), sports light roadstar (SLR), kids and juveniles.

According to the company officials, there is a significant demand for bicycles in the domestic market due to their affordable prices. This mode of transportation is also popular, as it is environment-friendly, and cycling is good for health.

"Our target is to sell bicycles in Indian and Bhutanese markets also," they added.

Currently, Bangladesh has three bicycle producers, two in export processing zones. Their largest chunk of output is exported to the European countries.

Bangladesh, as a least developed country (LDC), gets lower duty benefit from its exports to Europe. Following the tariff facility, Firefox, a Sri Lanka-based bicycle maker, is now manufacturing bicycles in Bangladesh for global market.

About 800 people, including skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers, are working in its main plant.

The yearly export market of bicycle is more than US$ 105 million. Bangladesh is the fifth largest bicycle exporter in the world.

Currently, some of the world's leading companies, including Raleigh, PCM and Motor and Sports of the UK, Aldi of the Netherlands, Bacht-enkirch Interbike of Germany, and M&F De Schee-maeker and Formula Cycling of Belgium are importing bicycles from Bangladesh.

All the bickering aside - bicycle is a lot preferred mod of transport than rickshaw. It dose not have to be a must transportation mode.there can be some easy solution like hongkong and China.some roads can be select for cycle and rickshaw only.like most of the university campus with place to ride.especially Dhaka university, it should be a must for students.other big unis in other city's.
Most of all ppl in our country should eat, breath, and sleep traffic rules until they follow it blind folded.all the jam in Dhaka is not for lack of transportation its because of ignorance and total lack of common sense. Especially the so called educated ppl who seeing their drivers making illegal move keep quiet. Be that bus,car or rickshaws.

Agreed about the private cars part.

Rickshaw-pullers on the other hand all come from villages. They don't understand and let alone comprehend traffic rules. Much of that blame goes to the inefficient police and poor urban planning and management.

Just commuting around Dhaka is a nightmare, seriously. Used to be much easier back in the day.

If they can manage the urban scenario in a more efficient way, the economic benefits would be enormous.

Bicycles are nice during hartals though. But be careful, them Shibir could smash your own bicycle. They even smash rickshaws! :omghaha:

Awami and Jamaat break stuff the most during hartal seasons.

{ About the video clip : A cyclists is legally allowed to use footpaths in Bangladesh and almost all other countries in the world (except certain listed ones where cycles aren't allowed explicitly). They are by law also suppose to ring their bells at pedestrians when they are on footpath. I've read the BRTA act and speaking from their listed rules. }
