The Army on Tuesday expressed concern over the growing number of gun-snatching incidents in Kashmir even as a fresh video of a local Hizbul Mujahideen militant commander called upon youth to grab weapons from government forces.

Speaking at a function in Baramulla district, General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps Commander, Lt. General Satish Dua said, “The Army is working closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Police to bring normality in the State. However, the incidents of rifle-snatching are a cause of concern for the Army.”

The Army statement comes two days after militants snatched five rifles from policemen guarding a Doordarshan transmitter tower in Anantnag district. Ever since Hizbul militant commander Burhan Wani was killed on July 8, south Kashmir has witnessed a spike in incidents of weapon-snatching. Militants have so far decamped with more than 55 service rifles. A defence spokesman said at least 44 persons “involved in terror-related activities” had been arrested in a 12-hour operation in Baramulla.

A police spokesman said 122 youths, indulging in protests, have been arrested in the Valley since Monday.

Pakistani firing
Pakistan resorted to mortar shelling along the LoC in fresh violation of the ceasefire in Rajouri district. Indian troops “retaliated strongly.”

According to reports, Pakistani troops fired at Indian forward posts in the Laam Battalion area in the Naushera sector. The firing started at 8.30 p.m. on Monday and continued till 1.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Defence officials said. The Pakistani troops used 8-mm mortar bombs and small and automatic weapons.

According to officials, the troops violated bilateral ceasefire in Bhimber Ghali (BG) sector of the LoC around 3:30 am.
For the second time in the past 12 hours, Pakistani troops opened fire at Indian frontline posts along Line of Control (LoC) in Pir Panchal's Poonch district.

According to a defence spokesman, the troops violated bilateral ceasefire in Bhimber Ghali (BG) sector of the LoC around 3:30 am. "They used mortars to target our positions," he said.

The exchange of small arms and automatic gunfire continued for some time. No casualty was reported on the Indian side.

Pakistani troops fired mortars in Tarkundi area of Rajouri district on Wednesday evening.

More than 30 ceasefire violations were reported since India carried out attacks on militants' launchpads along the LoC in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (Azad Kashmir) on September 30.

Continuing strife: The vehicle set ablaze on the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/bank-attacked-suv-set-ablaze-in-srinagar/article9241596.ece

Fear gripped people here on Wednesday as some masked youths attacked a private bank and torched an SUV.

The youths stopped the private vehicle and set it ablaze on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway near the Delina area in the afternoon.

A police official said several men barged in and ransacked the bank branch at Natipora.

The police said these incidents were meant to enforce a shutdown called by separatists.

In the past two weeks, six vehicles, including two autorickshaws, have been set on fire in the Valley.

Even as the 103-day-long shutdown has affected every aspect of Kashmiri life, with business and education taking a major hit, the separatists extended their shutdown up to October 27, relaxed after 5 p.m. for three days a week.

A joint protest programme issued by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for holding the “first resistance assembly” at the J&K Assembly House on October 27, the day the Army landed in Srinagar in 1947.

With the government deciding not to defer the annual school examinations, the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT), a students’ body, asked the authorities “to create a conducive atmosphere before holding annual examinations”.

Anti-government rallies were foiled in Budgam’s Soibugh area, Warpora in Sopore, Pulwama’s Newa area and parts of Anantnag. The security forces fired blank shots and hurled tear smoke shells to control the situation. No major casualty was reported.

Meanwhile, a day after the massive crackdown in Baramulla district against protesters, in which Pakistan and Chinese flags besides militant organisations’ letter pads were seized, militants have issued a death threat to the local police’s Station House Officer. Sources said the police officer was threatened for the crackdown and the arrest of 44 youths.

Weapons had outfit’s signature, says Home Ministry official
The three men who were killed while attempting to storm an Army camp at Handwara, in the border district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir on October 6, belonged to terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a senior Home Ministry official said.

The official said investigators were able to establish the identity of the outfit as the items recovered from the three killed terrorists were similar to the ones carried by Bahadur Ali, another LeT terrorist who was captured on July 25, a month after he had infiltrated into Handwara.

He said the weapons, a wireless handset, a coded grid reference and a map found on the three terrorists had imprints of the LeT. A vial containing medicine was also found, with an Urdu sticker saying: “khoon rokne ke liye (to stop blood).”

According to him, the terrorists had come for a long haul and what they carried was a standard kit given to LeT operatives.

India to share proof with Pakistan

The official said that the Lashkar men involved in the abortive October 6 attack on the Handwara Army camp have all been identified and the country would soon share the details with Pakistan.

The official said the items recovered from the slain terrorists had carried telltale markings.

“Bahadur Ali, another LeT terrorist who was captured on July 25, also carried an ICOM wireless set, a Japanese product, found on the three killed militants,” the official said.

The LeT gives its operatives a standard kit, including grid references for the areas to be targeted, he added.

With Pakistani troops suspectedly providing cover fire, 4-6 heavily-armed militants today tried to sneak into India through the International Border in Jammu but the attempt was foiled by alert BSF which claimed to have injured or killed at least one of them.

"BSF will soon be lodging a strong protest with Pakistan Rangers for the nefarious activities from Pakistan territory, particularly from the area nearby their post," said the spokesman of the paramilitary force about the incident in Hiranagar area of Kathua district.

"Last night, movement of a group of terrorists was noticed on the Pakistan side of International Border. Their movement was kept under watch by alert BSF troops," the spokesman said.

At about 2345 hours, the group of heavily-armed terrorists were again spotted by alert BSF troops close to IB on the Pakistan side where they reached taking advantage of undulating ground and thick wild growth.

"Terrorists took refuge in a depression having dense wild growth," he said. In view of this, all the nearby BSF and Army posts as well as Police were alerted.

"At about 2355 hours, militants fired two RPG shells aiming BSF night patrol vehicle in the area followed by heavy volume of fire from automatic weapons towards patrolling party and BSF duty points," the spokesman said.

BSF troops retaliated. "The firing from BSF was not only to suppress their (militants') fire but also to create havoc among terrorists," he said, adding it not only pinned them down but forced them to retreat.

"During illumination of Para bomb fire, it was clearly seen by BSF troops that four terrorists were fleeing and also dragging one of their injured or killed associate," the spokesman said.

Earlier, BSF Inspector General (Jammu Frontier) D K Upadhyaya said a group of 4 to 6 militants made an infiltration bid into Indian side along IB and attacked one vehicle carrying troops on patrolling with RPGs followed by heavy and indiscriminate firing at forward area (Bobiya) in Kathua last night.

The vehicle was patrolling the borderline at the time of the infiltration bid, he said, adding that BSF troops guarding the borderline fired back heavily resulting in exchanges. He said that there was possibly support fire from the Border Out Posts (BoPs) of Pakistan troops.

"Because BoPs are close by, so there is possibility of tactical support of rangers as well," he said. The militants retreated, taking advantage of thick growth of bushes and darkness, the officer said, adding that "when we fired para bombs for illumination of the area, the militants escaping back were carrying one injured back." They continued firing and BSF troops fired for over 20 minutes.

New Delhi: In reply to a sniper attack by Pakistani Rangers, the BSF on Friday launched an aggressive 'weapon firing', killing one militant and seven Pakistani Rangers in Jammu and Kashmir'ss Hira Nagar sector.

In the intervening night of October 19-20, BSF troops foiled an infiltration bid in Bobiyan village of Hira Nagar Sector, in which one militant was killed.

In the same area on Friday, Pakistani Rangers targeted a BSF post in which BSF Constable Gurnam Singh was critically injured, ANI reported.

At least seven Pakistani Rangers were also killed in a retaliatory firing.

The injured constable was evacuated to the Jammu Government Medical College. His condition remains to be critical, the report said.

The BSF said the forces are on high alert along international boundary and ready to foil any infiltration attempt.

Early on Thursday morning, Pakistan had resorted to ceasefire violation in Bhimer Gali sector of Rajouri and in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.

This comes after a spree of ceasefire violations last week by Pakistan after the surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army on 29 September to destroy terror launchpads in Azad Kashmir.

Ever since, Pakistan has stepped up cross-border firing and has violated the Line of Control ceasefire at least 20 times.

Today's exchange of fire came a day after BSF foiled an infiltration bid by 4-6 militants, aided by cover fire by the Pakistani troops, in Bobiyan village of the same Hira Nagar Sector.

At least one militant was injured or killed in that action by BSF during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday as he was seen being dragged by his associates.

Earlier in the day, BSF Inspector General (Jammu) Frontier D K Uphadayaya said the ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers had taken place in two sectors.

There were two ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers in Bobiya in Hira

Nagar sector of Kathua district and Pargwal belt of Akhnoor sector of Jammu district today.

"We are replying in a befitting manner. We have inflicted heavy losses to them," he said.

He said troops are on alert and mechanism is put in place to foil any attack by Border Action Teams (BATs) of Pakistan.

"You cannot take any chances. The guard is up. Troops are alert and vigilant and keeping a close watch. It is because of this alertness that we have foiled the infiltration bid," the IG said.

"Yesterday night fire was expected and they have retaliated and in this, one of our jawans has been injured. But we have also given the befitting reply and effected heavy loses on them," the BSF official said.

"They not only failed to infiltrate into this side but have also lost their lives and I have come to known through sources that one among them has been killed. They came back and befitting reply was given to them," he said.

He said the terrorists are desperate to infiltrate into India and that is why they are trying time and again.

"Jammu is their main target to do some damage over here, which we will not allow. The morale of troops is very very high," he said, adding, "For me, IB is always very sensitive. We will have to be in strong position to give them befitting reply the way they want the reply."

here are no reports of any casualty but the area is resounding with heavy shelling.
According to local administration, Pakistan resorted to heavy mortar shelling at Tarkundi along the Line of Control in Rajouri district late Friday night.

There are no reports of any casualty but the area is resounding with heavy shelling, a local administrator told The Hindu.

Meanwhile, in Kathua district, locals have migrated from the villages on zero line like Londi, Babiya, Patti Meru, Karol Bido, Karol Mathuri, etc. Many have taken shelter in a local higher secondary school on Hira Nagar.

As many as 59 families have abandoned their houses on the International Border. Those who have fled included 73 women and an equal number of children.

Authorities have bullet proof vehicles and transport on a standby to meet any eventuality.

Deputy ommissioner, Kathua, Romesh Kumar said people have been alerted and advised not to venture into open places.

“Schools close to IB will also remain closed tomorrow as well,” said Mr. Kumar.

:what: sensors, cameras etc etc are already installed so what is new from Indian side this time?
I earlier gave the solution to fencing along with installation of Auto Machine gun turrets placed at every 1km of the 2,500 km boundary of Bangladesh( that makes it 2,500 auto machine gun turrets to cover the whole boundary),controlled by Control room along with drones flying above and mining the border..
The Ministry is doing exactly that what i said above

Bhopal: Defence expert P K Sinho on Saturday said Pakistan will continue violating the ceasefire agreement of November 2003 to uplift the morale of their army and terrorists who have been dealt a severe blow through last month`s surgical strike across the Line of Control (LoC) by the Indian Army.

"Pakistan will continue such kind of activities in future also. The reason is that their army, their intelligence services are feeling very demoralised after the surgical strike. These kinds of actions they probably feel will raise the morale and will also give a message that they are active on the border and have not surrendered and are targeting India," Sinho told ANI.

He further praised the efforts of the BSF for being alert and continuously giving befitting replies to Pakistan`s attempts to facilitate the infiltration of terrorists across the LoC.

Yesterday, Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General D.K. Upadhyay confirmed that the launch of an "aggressive offensive firing" of small arms and area weapons in Hiranagar, Jammu and Kashmir, that claimed lives of one militant and seven Pakistani Rangers.

I meant the Auto Machine gun turrets operated by a operator sitting in a control tower, we need to have 10 such control towers covering a 100 KM area, 10 Machine gun turrets in 10km range would be covered and controlled by one Control tower. That would make it 250 Control towers controlling the whole 2,500 km boundary along with Drone operators and thermal imaging, coupled with laser, motion detectors.
The operator will be alerted to any presence of Animals or civilians and he can choose to activate and control the Auto turret using a joystick in control room,or fire off a warning shot.

Things with Bangladesh are good right now,but the illegal migration is always a problem,we cannot ignore that. When you are going to fence Pakistan border,do it with Bangladesh border too.

BSF_3053488g.jpg

BSF officials said that Constable Gurnam Singh (24) was shot in the head by a sniper in the Hiranagar sector along the International Border in Jammu on Thursday when he was standing guard at one of the check posts.

Officials said Mr. Singh was one of the eight men who, on the intervening night of October 19-20, had thwarted an infiltration attempt and successfully pushed back four or five militants in Bobiyan village of Hiranagar.

“Barely 24 hours after the infiltration bid, there was a sniper attack. We decided to give a befitting reply and launched an offensive. At least one militant and seven Pakistan Rangers personnel have been killed,” said the BSF official. Singh has been admitted in a critical condition to a Jammu hospital.

A BSF official said the sniping incident came after a lull of almost 15 months. Officials cautioned that it was a worrying development as the 192 km IB in Jammu had not witnessed any cross-border firing even after the September 29 strikes.

This is also the first time such heavy casualties have been inflicted on the Rangers in the past five years. BSF sources said the deaths had been confirmed by reports of their observation posts and by intercepts of Pakistani wireless communication.

In a statement on Friday, the BSF said it launched an “aggressive offensive” in response to the sniper attack and gave a “befitting reply”, killing one militant and seven Pakistan Rangers personnel.

Flag meeting held

On Thursday, the BSF held a flag meeting with the Pakistan Rangers and apprised them of the infiltration attempt by militants from their territory.

“As usual Pakistan Rangers denied the allegations and said they were not aware of any such infiltration attempt. Today we gave a strong reply. The Rangers tried to reach us on the hotlines on Friday but we have not responded so far,” said the official.

Fewer violations

An official said incidents of sniping had come down to nil since the two forces guarding the border had held a meeting in August last year. New lines of communication were opened and they had resulted in reduced tensions. As compared to 350 ceasefire violations in the Jammu sector till August 2015, only three such violations were reported after the two forces held talks.

In the past three years, officials had witnessed a trend where maximum infiltration attempts and ceasefire violations happened along the IB, which runs along the populated Jammu district. In 2013, there was massive displacement of villagers living along IB in Jammu.

Jammu deputy commissioner Simrandeep Singh said last night Pakistan Rangers fired 60 mm and 81 mm mortars intermittently from 11 pm on Friday till early Saturday morning in Korotana and Bidhipur villages of Suchetgarh area in RS Pura sector, in which four cattle died and two were injured.

There were no human injuries or deaths, he added.

“People are advised to stay indoors during the day time also as there is a likelihood of shelling even during the day. SDMs have been told to close schools in vulnerable villages as a precaution,” he said.

Singh informed that there are around 80 government schools, including primary, middle, high and higher secondary-level schools in RS Pura sector.

Bullet proof vehicles were pressed into service overnight to evacuate over 400 people rattled by the sound of Pakistani mortar bombing and firing in border hamlets.

Border dwellers in Bobiya and adjoining hamlets in Hiranagar sector in Kathua district have been experiencing sleepless nights due to the intensified shelling and firing by Pakistani Rangers on October 20 and 21.

Police armed with bullet proof vehicles criss crossed the shell-hit hamlets particularly Bobiya last night carrying loads of scared villagers. They were ferried to the camps setup by the district administration at government higher secondary school in Hiranagar and another school at Chhan Khatrian.

“Due to heavy firing and shelling for the last two days and the fear psychosis among the border residents, we pressed into service bullet proof vehicles to evacuate them”, Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Ramesh Kumar said .

Over 400 people from IB hamlets were evacuated and shifted to the safer areas in camps set up by the government, the DC said.

“We have asked the authorities to ensure safety of the people as firing and shelling exchanges have increased. We don’t want the civilians to suffer”, IG BSF Jammu Frontier, D K Uphadayaya said.

Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Ramesh Kumar and SSP Kathua Pawan Parihar village and joined the evacuation operation of 232 people.

They were accommodated in Government Higher Secondary school, Hiranagar while 145 people of Londi and Rajgrain Brahamana were lodged in Government Middle School, Chhan Khatrian. Some families had left for the houses of their relatives, DC said.

“We were very terrorised this time due to heavy shelling and firing by Pakistan”, Manak Chand of Bobiya said at camp here.

“The windows of our houses were shaking with the sound of mortar bombs and firing of heavy weapons. It as unbearable to stay in home after being witness to the two days of firing, Chand Said

Like him, Sukho Devi migrated from the hamlet several times and this is another exodus from her border home.

“We have fled homes several times in the past few decades and before that in wars.It is now a routine for us as border people live in the jaws of deaths. You never know what is going to happen next moment,” she adds.

Some people returned to their villages this morning leaving behind the elderly, women and children in migrant camps in Hiranagar because they have to take care of the harvest season.

“We were engaged in harvesting when Pakistani firing forced us to abandoned it.Even moving outside in open is now dangerous as Pakistani snipers and troops are awaiting to hit us”, Sham Singh said.

The administration has once again put the Contingency Plan in place for the border migrants as shelling and firing also extended to Samba and Jammu.

The shelling and firing from Pakistan also took place in adjoining areas of Bobiya in Samba sector, Abdullian-Karotana-Bidipur in R S Pura and Nikowal in Pargwal sector of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu district since Friday.

Bobiya was the same spot where BSF had on the intervening night of October 19 and 20 thwarted major infiltration attempt by six Pakistani militants killing one of them and injuring couple of others and forcing them to retreat.

There have been two incidents of sniping on Friday in which one BSF jawan was critically injured.

Pakistan troops had violated the ceasefire six times yesterday.

The IG of Border Security Force (BSF) Jammu Frontier, D K Uphadayaya said a befitting reply has been given to Pakistan firing and heavy losses have been inflicted to them.

In five ceasefire violations in the day, Pakistani troops targeted five sectors of R S Pura (Jammu), Hiranagar (Kathua), Samba, Pargwal (Jammu) along IB and Rajouri and Mendhar (Poonch) along LoC by resorting to small arms firing and mortar shelling resulting in serious injuries to a BSF jawan.

Due to firing and shelling in the border areas, over 1000 people living close to the IB in Hiranagar and other places have migrated to safety
Escalating cross border firing, Pakistani Rangers overnight pounded border hamlets and outposts with mortar shells and opened fire from automatic weapons in R S Pura sector of Jammu district.

“There has been heavy firing and mortar shelling along the IB in R S Pura belt during the night”, Inspector General of BSF, D K Uphadayaya said on Saturday.

The fresh firing and shelling comes after Pakistani Rangers violated the ceasefire six times on Friday. Seven Pakistani Rangers and a terrorist were killed and three others seriously injured in retaliatory firing by BSF troops along the International border.

The IG said the areas which came under fire along the IB include Karotana Khurd and Abdullian.

“We have asked the authorities to ensure safety of the people as firing and shelling exchanges have increased. We do not want civilians to suffer”, the IG said.

He said Pakistani Rangers tried to snipe at a jawan on a Observation tower but he jumped from it. The jawan injured his feet in the process.

Due to firing and shelling in the border areas, over 1000 people living close to the IB in Hiranagar and other places have migrated to safety. Due to firing and shelling four cattle were killed, he said.

“Apart from firing, Pakistani Rangers fired 60 and 81 mm mortar bomb shells intermittently from 11 PM and it continued till early morning in Bidipur and Karotana in Suchetgarh sub-sector”, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh said.

The DC said people have been advised to stay indoors during the day time also as there is likelihood of shelling even during the day.

“Officers have been asked to close all the schools in villages which are vulnerable as a precautionary measure”, the DC added.

As many as 50 to 80 schools in these border areas have been directed to be shut by the district administration as a precautionary measure, DC said.

Pakistan troops had on Fridya violated the ceasefire six times.

Pakistani troops targeted five sectors of R S Pura (Jammu), Hiranagar (Kathua), Samba, Pargwal (Jammu) along IB and Rajouri and Mendhar (Poonch) along LoC by resorting to small arms firing and mortar shelling resulting in serious injuries to a BSF jawan.

There have been over 37 ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir after surgical strikes by Army troops in Azad Kashmir to dismantle terror launching pads.

A six-year-old boy along with a BSF jawan was killed and nine others were critically injured today as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire, resorting to heavy shelling and firing from automatic weapons in several sectors along the International Border in Jammu district.

The boy was killed as Pakistani forces resorted to unprovoked firing in a "complete bizarre manner" towards civilian areas at Laliyal village in R S Pura, official sources said.

Nine others were injured in the overnight firing of whom condition of a woman was stated to be critical.

"Pakistan Rangers opened indiscriminate firing and mortar shelling on forward BoPs and civilian areas in several sub sectors along International Border (IB) in Jammu district overnight," a senior BSF officer said.

There has been firing of small and automatic weapons and shelling of mortar bombs on over 25 border out posts (BoPs) and civilian areas in R S Pura, Arnia, Suchetgarh, Kanachak, Pargwal sub sectors of Jammu district since last night and it is still on, the officer said.

"In the firing and shelling, one BSF Jawan was martyred and another injured," officer said, adding that the BSF troops guarding IB were giving a befitting reply.
The deceased jawan has been identified as Constable Susheel Kumar.

There have been over 40 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops since India carried out surgical strikes in Azad Kashmir after the Uri terror attack in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed.

Two children and another civilian were killed along with a soldier in firing across the border between India and Pakistan, officials from both sides said Monday, as tensions soar between the nuclear-armed rivals.

Pakistan`s military said an 18-month-old girl and another civilian were killed on its side of the border in "unprovoked firing" by the Indian army.

"Due to Indian unprovoked firing last night a civilian, Muhammad Latif of village Janglora, and a minor Haniya, age one and a half, embraced shahadat (martyrdom) while seven civilians were injured," a military statement said.

The firing took place across the border between Indian-held Kashmir and Pakistan`s Punjab province in the villages of Harpal, Pukhlian and Charwah, the statement said.

Indian police said the late night heavy exchange of firing occurred in its RS Pura sector, killing an Indian border security guard and a six-year-old boy.

The Border Security Force (BSF) soldier died after he received splinters from a mortar shell fired by Pakistan rangers, Danish Rana, inspector general of police for the area, told AFP.

"The boy and the BSF soldier died during the intense exchange of small arms fire and mortars throughout the night along the border," Rana said.

Six other civilians were also injured during the exchange, said another Indian police officer speaking on condition of anonymity.

Relations between the two countries have plummeted in recent months, with India blaming Pakistani militants for a raid on an army base in its part of disputed Kashmir in September that killed 19 soldiers.

India later said it launched "surgical strikes" across the border in Pakistan on militant targets, prompting fury from Pakistan which denied the raids took place.

Pakistani military said late Monday a strong protest was lodged with the United Nations Military Observers for India and Pakistan over the Indian firing.

Indian and Pakistani troops regularly exchange fire across their de-facto border in Kashmir, but rarely send ground troops over the line.

The overnight incident comes days after Indian border security forces said they shot dead seven Pakistani soldiers in retaliation for a ceasefire violation, with Pakistan refuting the claims.

Muslim-majority Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan, but claimed in full by both, since the two countries gained independence from Britain in 1947.

Since 1989 several rebel groups have been fighting Indian forces deployed in the region, seeking independence or a merger of the territory with Pakistan.

Jammu: The BSF today paid tributes to Head Constable Sushil Kumar, who was killed in Pakistani shelling while defending the border.

Sushil is the second BSF jawan who laid down his life due to Pakistan Rangers' firing and shelling during the last few days.

Constable Gurnam Singh, who foiled an infiltration bid of heavily armed militants in the Bobiya area of Kathua district, was injured on Friday in a sniper attack and succumbed on Saturday night.
A wreath-laying ceremony was organised at the Jammu frontier BSF camp at Paloura where rich tributes were paid to the slain soldier.

Director General, BSF, KK Sharma specially came from Delhi. Arun Kumar, ADG, BSF Western Command, Chandigarh, Rajeev Krishna, IG (Operation), DK Upadhyay, IG, BSF, Jammu, Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, IG, Jammu Police, Danish Rana, the CRPF DIG, along with BSF officers and jawans paid floral tributes to the martyr at the Frontier Headquarters in Jammu.

On the occasion, Sharma said the BSF had a history of bravery and this act has once again proved that those guarding the border were always ready to sacrifice their lives when it came to the country's security.

Sushil, who was martyred during heavy firing from across the border last night, gave a befitting reply to the Pakistani soldiers from his post.

He sustained bullet injuries on the chest in the process.

"He was immediately evacuated to GMCH, Jammu where the doctors declared him brought dead at 0130 hours," an officer said.

Two more BSF personnel -- ASI RD Puri and Constable Ayyappa Babu -- sustained minor injuries. They were currently admitted in a hospital, he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Minister of Industries and Commerce Chandra Prasad Ganga also paid tributes to the martyr.
The cremation of the jawan will be held at his native Pihowa village in Kurukshetra district in Haryana tomorrow at 10 am.

http://zeenews.india.com/news/india...int-to-engineer-infiltration-bsf_1943318.html

Border Security Force (BSF) chief KK Sharma said Pakistani forces are deliberately trying to 'create a flash point' to facilitate infiltration of terrorists into India and asserted that these designs will be foiled.

He insisted that BSF never initiates ceasefire violations nor does it target civilian areas, a comment that assumes significance in the wake of Pakistan army's claim that two people, including a minor girl, were killed in firing by Indian troops.

"They (Pakistani forces) deliberately create such flash points with an aim of engineering infiltration," Sharma told reporters on Monday while commenting on the intensified cross- border shelling and firing by Pakistani troops.

"You can say that they (Pakistani troops) always try to create a flash point so that they get an excuse to go for action," Sharma added after laying wreath on mortal remains of BSF Head Constable Sushil Kumar who was killed in Pakistani shelling in RS Pura sector on Monday morning.

The BSF Director General said while Pakistan may start the confrontation, "we are committed to give befitting reply and foiling their designs of infiltration.... We have to react so that we do not allow them to get successful in their designs to engineer infiltration from across the border."

He said the morale of the troops is "very high and we are ready to meet any eventuality".

Asserting that BSF never initiates ceasefire violation, he said the Indian border guarding force only gives a "befitting reply" to the provocations by the Pakistani forces.

"I want to clarify that we have never initiated (any ceasefire violation). It is Pakistan which is doing it. As you know in case of (BSF constable) Gurnam Singh, they killed him in a sniper fire first. In reply to that we gave them befitting reply," Sharma said, referring to last week's incident in which BSF claimed to have killed 7 Pakistani Rangers and a terrorist in retaliatory fire.

"The way they are bombarding our areas, they are targeting civilians but as a policy, BSF does not target civilians at all," Sharma said.

"We only target the place from where the fire is coming. We only target military and Pakistani Rangers establishments. We never intentionally target civilian areas," he added.

About Monday's incident, he said, "They initiated heavy shelling in RS Pura, we retaliated to that."

He added, ".. the area weapons do not have great amount of accuracy. As a result, civilians are also harmed, property is also damaged. That is the collateral damage."

In reply to another question about his message and directive to the field commanders, Mr Sharma said "I have asked my commanders not to initiate anything. But at the same time give them befitting and strong reply".

Sending out a message, the BSF DG said, "I would like to convey to Pakistan that as in the past, they will have to retreat. I will only tell them that they should desist from unholy designs and they should not do anything that will harm us as in the past."

Giving details about Sunday night's incidents of firing and shelling, the BSF DG said a vital organ of Head Constable Sushil Kumar was hit by a bullet due to which he later died.

"From my side and on behalf of BSF and the country, we praise the role and supreme sacrifice of the brave-heart jawan and pay tributes to him," he said.

"We are sad over the death of two jawans whom we have paid tributes from this campus alone but I want to assure you that we will give a befitting reply to this action of Pakistan," Sharma said.

"As you know for past few days there have been firing exchanges on the two sides and Pakistan has been initiating firing and shelling," he said.

The DG said, "I was told that there is a huge loss of life and property on the other side. My officers told me that opposite to our Chenab post, there lies Tariq post of Pakistan where ambulances were seen. There is also loss and damage to the Pak Rangers as well".

When pointed out that there are generally ceasefire violations by Pakistan during this time, he said, "I agree with you that in 2014 and 2015 during this period only there have been hostilities from the Pakistan side.

"As you know we have always given them a befitting reply and I assure you that we will give them a befitting reply this time as well."

Replying to another question about the security situation along the border line, he said "I think they are still smarting over the surgical actions taken by Army".

Kashmir_3057558f.jpg

Srinagar: A five-member delegation led by senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday met separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his residence here -- in a fresh bid at breaking a logjam after more than three months of deadly unrest in the Kashmir Valley.

The team, which includes former bureaucrat Wajahat Habibullah, who has served in Jammu and Kashmir, ex-Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak, journalist Bharat Bhushan and activist Sushobha Barve landed in Srinagar and straight away drove to Geelani`s residence in Hyderpora.

Interestingly, Geelani, who heads the hardline faction of separatist Hurriyat Conference, agreed to meet and talk to the Sinha-led delegation. The delegation members were seen entering the highly fortified house where Geelani has been kept under detention for over three months.

The octogenarian separatist had on September 4 shut the door on Communist Party of India-Marxist General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and other non-BJP MPs who were part of an all-party delegation on a visit to Kashmir.

Sinha and his team members are also expected to meet other separatist leaders, including moderate Hurriyat head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yaseen Malik.

And after two months of detention at a guest-house-turned-jail in Srinagar, the Mirwaiz is now under house arrest at his upscale Nigeen residence. Malik has also been moved from jail to a Srinagar hospital after his health deteriorated.

Sinha confirmed to IANS that he and other "people of goodwill" will try to "meet all" during their visit to the valley that began on Tuesday.

"We came here for humanity. Our motto is to share the grievances and pain (of Kashmiri people). I hope the state of unrest will be resolved soon," Sinha said.

Talking to reporters, the former BJP minister hinted that it was an independent initiative and that they were "not here as a part of any delegation".

The fresh bid to break ice between separatist groups and the government comes after 108 days of unrest and shutdown that have disrupted normal life in the Kashmir Valley since the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

At least 92 persons were killed and over 12,000 injured in clashes between protesters and security forces.

Police have arrested over 7,000 suspected ring leaders of stone throwers. Some have been let off.

Sinha and his team are also expected to meet civil society and trade groups including the Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) and the Kashmir Centre for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS).

They will call on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor NN Vohra.

BSF terms the cross-border firing from Pakistan as "bizarre and unprovoked" as the targets were civilians.
The hotlines activated last year between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers have fallen silent as ceasefire violations along the crowded International Border in Jammu continued for the third consecutive day.

The border guarding forces of both countries have snapped any form of communication even as a BSF head constable and a six-year-old boy were among those killed in the current spell of cross-border firing.

On Monday, BSF termed the cross-border firing from Pakistan as “bizarre and unprovoked” as the targets were civilians.

The official Twitter handle of BSF posted, “RS Pura sector in Jammu received unprecedented fire by Pakistani forces. It is unprovoked and completely bizarre as Pakistan firing is targeting civilians.”

After large scale ceasefire violations were reported in 2015, BSF and Pakistan Rangers had put in a system to resolve any flare-up on the IB by effective communication. At least 14 hotlines were activated along the Pakistan border from Gujarat to Jammu.

The system bore results. Post-talks, the ceasefire violations in the past one year came down to nine from 253 recorded till September 2015. Officials said that the situation took a turn for the worse from October 19 when constable Gurnam Singh was shot by a sniper and later died. “We were expecting retaliation post-September 29 surgical strikes. The sniper attack on our personnel was the tipping point,” said a senior BSF official.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in Bahrain on an official visit, took stock of the situation and spoke over phone with Director General, BSF K.K Sharma.

Fresh violations of the ceasefire agreement were reported in Jammu's R.S Pura Sector and along the frontline posts situated in the Pir Panchal Valley's Rajouri district on Tuesday.

Preliminary reports suggest Pakistani troops opened fire in Rajouri's Baba Khori and Kalal areas of Rajouri district, more than 200 km away from Jammu district. The exact timing of the exchange could not be ascertained immediately.

In Jammu, a BSF official said ceasefire violations were reported in R.S Pura where Pakistani troops fired mortar shells between 11 pm and 12am on Monday night.

Fresh violations come as two people, including a BSF jawan and a six-year-old boy, died in cross border fire in Jammu on Monday.

The Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) remains tense for fifth consecutive. The intensity, however, has come down compared to Monday, said police sources.

Fresh trigger was the sniper attack on a BSF personnel on Friday. The fatally injured BSF personnel died on Sunday. The BSF claims to have killed seven Pakistani Rangers in retaliation.

Around 40 ceasefire violations have been reported in J&K since India carried out surgical attacks in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (Azad Kashmir) on September 30.

A Government school was set ablaze by unknown persons in the wee hours today in Noorbagh area of the city but the blaze was put out by fire tenders, a police official said.

He said the school building suffered damage in the fire and the firefighting operation.

In another incident, miscreants tried to burn down Government Higher Secondary School at Aishmuqam in Anantnag district, the official said.

The school building was saved by the timely intervention of fire brigade personnel, he said adding one window panel was damaged due to the fire.

Last night, fire broke out in a building of Government Middle School in Sadrukote Bala of Bandipora district.

Fire tenders were rushed in and the blaze was put out, the official said, adding the incident is suspected to be handiwork of miscreants.

The official said in view of these incidents, the security patrol around school buildings have been increased to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
